## What is Actually Hangout?

Friendship isn't built through likes or texts, it's built through showing up. Actually Hangout makes it easier to spend time with the people you love.
You shouldn't have to consume content just to stay connected. We're not a social network. No doomscrolling, no ads, no followers, just friends.

Here's how it works:

SET YOUR MOOD
Let friends know what you're in the mood for without sending 12 different texts—whether it's going out, staying in, or just playing online.

SHARE YOUR AVAILABILITY
Sync your free time so friends can see when you're actually around. No more "are you free Thursday?"—just open windows everyone can plan around, so the hangout gets on the calendar instead of lost in the chat.

DROP A PIN
Spontaneous hangouts simplified. Drop your location to let your friends know where you are and watch them come to you.

GROUP DECISION
Actually plan together where everyone has a voice without endless back and forth in a group chat.

AUTO NAG
Gentle reminders so you don't have to be the pushy one. Let us do the following up for you.

SET IT & SEND IT
Speak hangouts into existence. Our assistant helps you create plans in seconds, just describe what you want to do and we'll handle the details.

POST A FEELER
Gauge interest when you want to do something and see who else is down. Friends can tap in if they're interested, making it easier to actually get together.

SAVE THE IDEAS
That restaurant on TikTok, that trail on Instagram. Save the spots you actually want to visit, then turn them into real plans instead of letting them die in your saved folder.

EXPLORE
Out of ideas? Find real events and things to do near you. Browse what's happening, pick something, and bring your people along.

TAGS
Create friend tags for easier planning. Your roommates, your work crew, your weekend warriors.

We know planning can be exhausting. Actually Hangout handles the details, so you can focus on what really matters: spending time with the people you love.
Your privacy respected. We don't sell your data. We don't show you ads. We don't monetize your attention. We're here to help you connect—that's it.

See your friends more.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.88.0 — 2026-08-10

Actually Hangout v0.88.0

This one is about the two things you do most: finding something to do, and actually pinning down the plan.

Explore, rebuilt as a scrollable wall
Explore is now a Pinterest-style masonry feed — two columns, cards sized to their real photo instead of squeezed into a box. New tabs let you flip between All, Places, Activities, Events, Nightlife, Food and Drink and Friends. Images load a screen ahead and fade in, and double-tapping the Explore title jumps you back to the top.

Explore actually has stuff in it now
If your area was thin, Explore used to come back blank — no message, no retry. Now you get a "Popular anywhere" feed instead, clearly labeled so you know it is not local, and a real screen with Change location and Try again if even that is empty. Suggested for you works now too.

The app opens with something on it
Cold starts no longer drop you into an empty shell. We warm up your feed, profile and friends first, so the app opens with real content already on screen — with a hard cap on the wait, so a bad connection never leaves you staring at the logo.

Suggest a change to someone else's hangout
On any hangout you are invited to, hit Suggest a change to propose a different time, place, or detail. The organizer sees the pending count right on the hangout, reviews it, and accepts or declines. Everyone gets notified.

Vote on the parts nobody has decided yet
Hangouts with a TBD detail now show a "Still being planned" card. Open it and vote on the options, and the organizer can lock one in when it is clear.

Real tables, real times
When your plan includes a restaurant, you now see the tables that are actually open — real time slots in the restaurant's own local clock, with a tap-through to finish booking on Resy. If the day is fully booked, it says so, because that is the useful answer.

The plan editor lives on the timeline now
Editing a plan finally looks like reading one. A stop's time sits in the gutter next to it; tap it and a picker slides up. Set how long each stop takes, see the travel leg between stops, reorder them, and add links to individual stops.

The Intelligence planner got a real composer
One button that is a mic when the box is empty and a Plan button once you have typed. Example prompts fade through the empty box, and the mic glows with your voice. You can also invite people right from the planner, from the sheet or by @mention.

Other goodies
- A new Your places screen in Settings, so your own nicknames show up on suggested plans instead of street addresses
- The post audience picker can now name individual friends, not just friend tags
- Hangout update notifications are written on your device, so times land in your timezone and your language
- The hangouts search bar now matches Explore's, with the filter tucked inside it
- Party games traded their emoji for real illustrated marks

### 0.86.0 — 2026-08-03

Actually Hangout v0.86.0

This update is all about Pindrops, plans, and making it easier to actually show up.

Pindrops redesigned
The Pindrop editor has a fresh layout — a map up top, a horizontal photo strip, a compact caption, and a "here until" timer slider all in one place. Pindrops can now hold multiple photos, shown as a swipeable carousel right in your feed.

Join with one tap
See a friend dropped somewhere nearby? Tap Join to hop in — we use your location to add you to the moment. Owners can turn on open-join so anyone can slide through, and collaborators can add their own photos.

A smarter Saves screen
Your Lists now preview at the top of Saves, and the full Lists screen is a clean two-column grid of cards, with a "Create new list" card always ready.

Invites where you'll see them
Pending invitations now sit in a carousel at the top of your Upcoming tab, count badge included. Accept or decline right there and it disappears.

No RSVPing to the past
You can't accidentally accept a hangout that already happened — past invites show an "already happened" state so you can simply dismiss them.

Voice your plans (iPhone)
The AI hangout planner now has a mic button. Tap it, say what you're thinking, and we turn your voice into text you can edit.

Tap to navigate
Tap an experience's address to open directions in your maps app.

Other improvements
- Feeds refresh automatically after you edit a Pindrop or add photos
- Fresh, rotating suggestions in the reach-out note field
- General polish and reliability improvements throughout

As always, let us know what you think — your feedback shapes what we build next.

### 0.85.0 — 2026-07-17

Actually Hangout v0.85.0 is here!

Big one this time — we gave the app a brain. Meet your new assistant, put your hangouts on your real calendar, and get a nudge before things start.

Say hello to your assistant
Explore search got a full glow-up. There's a clean new search bar up top and a dedicated results screen that splits your answer into Places, Events, and Activities, with a smart AI answer right at the top. The answer even has tappable citations, so you can see exactly where a recommendation came from. And when you ask the assistant to handle something for you, it shows you a plan first and waits for your OK before it does anything.

Hangouts on your real calendar
Accept an invite or create a hangout and it now lands on your phone's calendar automatically, with the real start and end times. It's on by default, you can turn it off in settings, and it never creates duplicates.

Reminders so nobody forgets
Hosts can now add their own timed reminders to a hangout — pick a time before it starts, write a message, and everyone going gets the nudge. Attendees also get an automatic heads-up about an hour before.

Weather and hours warnings
When you're planning a hangout, we'll now flag things worth knowing, like rough weather in the forecast or a venue that's closed at your chosen time, right on the draft and the detail screen.

Share when you're free
You can now share a personal availability page so people can request a time that works for you. Toggle it on from your calendar, share the link, and rotate it anytime. Requests come right back to you to accept or pass.

People, your way
The People page got a search bar and friend tags, so finding and grouping your people is finally easy. You can also mark someone as hide my posts — they'll quietly stop seeing your posts, moods, and availability by default, and we'll confirm before it takes effect.

Pinch to zoom
Full-screen photos and videos now support pinch-to-zoom, and we moved the close button to a comfier spot.

Other goodies
- Ideas with video now show a crisp thumbnail everywhere they appear
- The side drawer shows your current app version with a latest chip
- Faster, lighter image loading — less waiting and less data used
- Upcoming hangouts are sorted by whatever's happening soonest
