Buy it ### 5/5 — Adding Machine: 10 key calc = best of breed *2012-09-20, version 3.6kbPad* The search for the “right” adding machine program has occupied some of my time for about six months, now, as I came across programs that were not quite what I was looking for. I finally decided to create a small file of 3x5 index card, one per program, with comments as to (1) my criteria, and (2) how each program met my criteria. The criteria developed as follows: 1- Does the program create a subtotal that would not go away for each entry? (N is acceptable, Y is cause for rejection) 2- Can you edit prior entries, including insertion, deletion, and changing? (Y is acceptable, N is cause for rejection) 3- Does the program work in “adding machine”, or RPN mode? (Y is acceptable, N is cause for rejection) 4- Any distractions that I could not live with, like loud sounds I couldn’t turn off, etc. (N is acceptable, Y is cause for rejection) I created index cards for 11 programs, and only one passed all criteria (actually there might have been more than 11, but some had prices that were way out of line): Adding machine-10 key calc was it. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — No external number pad *2021-03-22, version 6.20kbPad* Does not work with external keyboard number pad. I would only use this through an external number pad. Disabled all of the sound functions of the app and it still behaves this way. While it is possible to set the decimal to two places for financial calculations, and it does show up on the tape as such, the entry screen does NOT display the decimal. This is too disconcerting and should be fixed. A physical adding machine does this. The app should too. On another note, I noticed a one star review from somebody who clearly doesn’t understand that ADDING MACHINES are not the same thing and do not operate the same as calculators. This app does exactly what an ADDING MACINE does, NOT what calculators do. If you do not know the difference, this app is not what you want. Most people specifically looking for ADDING MACHINES already know they’re not the same. I was able to calculate out a tape and label each item, save a budget within the app, export it and email myself a copy. I think it works great and that's after only 15 min. Just a double click to start over, the iPhone comes up with a pop up box to clear it, an extra step I don’t think is necessary. I would get the full upgrade except it is a monthly fee instead of a one-time payment, so that is not worth it for me. ### 5/5 — The Best 10Key App To Have!!! *2019-07-27, version 6.20kbPad* Obviously this app works absolutely as described because like a good straightforward 10 key should operate, it just sits there and doesn’t give you any issues. Notice that the fixes have more to do with how ads are made to be un-intrusive then the operation of the app itself. Telling. Very thoughtful design to not be some wild interpretation of what a calculator is supposed to do. And because it’s so uneventful, steady, and reliable, unfortunately it doesn’t provoke folks to consciously go and give it the 5 star review it deserves for being a free app. If you are looking for a simple straightforward 10 key, this is definitely the one to get. Don’t even bother looking any further. Seriously. And you will probably be one among the thousands that use it without issue that forget to leave these folks a stellar review and a thank you for making a perfect app. Like me using it for years and not giving them props for making the perfect free iPad 10 key until now, lol!
