### 2/5 — Would be better

*2026-08-02, version 2025.1.3*

Would be a good app if I could log into the damn thing email and password are both correct but the app says invalid

### 2/5 — Ms

*2026-06-02, version 2025.1.3*

There are times when I cant access the app because of a device error, leaving me with no choice but to use my debit card and pay again even though I have an active monthly subscription.

### 2/5 — Piece of junk

*2026-06-02, version 2025.1.3*

I rely on this slop every day. After 2 years all the bugs should be ironed out, but no. Once I updated the app and all my tickets disappeared. Luckily I didn’t buy too many. And now its just randomly not letting me log in, just spinning endlessly, even after reinstalling and restarting my phone. I can’t even reset my password. Its just hanging with no error code or anything. What a joke

### 2/5 — Please add password support or at least copy and paste!

*2026-04-01, version 2025.1.3*

Love that the app makes buying tickets easy. I don’t love typing in a complex password without copy and paste. Can you please integrate with phone password system??

Also my wife has had to enter her payment details twice on the same day. Seems like a bug.

### 2/5 — Logging In

*2026-03-09, version 2025.1.3*

Takes forever to let me log into my account

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-01-27, version 2025.1.3*

Hands down the worst app I’ve ever used! This app is fundamentally unfit for purpose. Accessing the QR code requires multiple taps, even when using shortcuts, and the app frequently logs users out or crashes without warning - often at the most inconvenient times.

Most concerning is that the QR code does not reliably scan on some buses, rendering a paid ticket unusable. A ticketing app that cannot consistently present a valid, scannable ticket fails at its most basic function.

I will not use this app again once my current pass expires unless substantial improvements are made.

### 2/5 — Terrible

*2026-01-14, version 2025.1.3*

This is one of the worst apps I have been forced to use - I say forced since I purchased a 28-day pass thinking it would also link to my Metro card. I have to click at least 3 times to access the QR code, sometimes 4 (even with a shortcut), the app logs you out at random intervals, or completely shuts down (usually at the most inconvenient of times too, of course - Murphy’s Law!) I will not use this app again once my current pass expires, unless it undergoes some serious upgrades.

### 1/5 — Poorly designed app = Bad user experience

*2026-01-08, version 2025.1.3*

I didn’t have a great experience buying metro tickets with Adelaide Metro and their customer service team avoided taking ownership of such experience.

### 1/5 — Does not do the only thing you want

*2025-11-25, version 2025.1.3*

All I want to do is recharge my metro card without having to go to a physical location. App enables you to buy every ticket except recharge a metro card, which is the only thing the vast majority of regular commuters want to do. Why would you need a separate online link - navigating to the website - to recharge a metro card instead of putting on the app? Ridiculous.

### 1/5 — How fragmented this app’s function is!

*2025-09-12, version 2024.1.5A*

Hard to understand why metrocard passes cannot be bought from this app. Also, why metrocards cannot be linked to the app? Who are the app targeted users? Visitors? They can just use bankcards/phone instead. A study tour to other states can surely help to improve the functionality of the app. Have to delete the app to save the mobile space after 5 minutes of downloading it.

### 1/5 — Tickets expire on the day

*2025-08-13, version 2024.1.5A*

I bought two tickets thinking it would work like a metrocard and wasted my money because both expired on the day of purchase. What a waste of time having to buy a ticket every time you board. Lucky I didn’t buy more.

### 1/5 — Trash

*2025-07-04, version 2024.1.5A*

Trash for a big company!!! I don’t understand why you can’t link everything to one account.

### 2/5 — Recycled NJ Transit app, needs work

*2025-06-28, version 2024.1.5A*

This app is off to an OK start. I love that I can buy and validate multiple tickets together. It’s an essential feature for travelling in a family group. However, it suffers from some major usability issus.

I noticed that this app is a modified copy of the NJ Transit app, so it was most likely built 100% by NJ Transit and its back-end systems are most likely built and managed by NJ Transit too, which is concerning in terms of privacy and data sovereignty. I didn’t see this disclosed anywhere in the app, which is concerning. I also didn’t find any reference to this on the internet, so I can only conclude that it’s been made confidential. That’s pretty poor form.

In terms of actually using the app, these are the things I struggled with:

• The two-hour time limit on tickets starts when activating a ticket, not when it’s first validated. I’m sure you’ve had a lot of complaints from people who bought and activated ticket in advance, then as they were going to get on the bus or train, found that their tickets had expired.

• Creating an account is an absolute pain. The password manager’s new password suggestion isn’t triggered. Manually creating a new entry in the Passwords app using a suggested password results in a password that doesn’t match the app’s criteria. The email address and password have to be entered twice, which is a very outdated practice and just super annoying when combined with a lack of password manager support.

• The short password limit of 20 characters strongly suggests that passwords aren’t being hashed and salted in line with best practice. Should the database be compromised, it could become a treasure-trove of recycled credentials from which unscrupulous people could gain access to more important accounts such as Google, etc.

• The login screen doesn’t trigger auto-filling of credentials from a password manager.

• The option to enable biometrics is greyed out with no explanation.

• There is no option to use Apple Pay. I signed up in a public place and felt a bit uneasy about whipping out my credit card.

• The app doesn’t respect my dark mode preference.

• Apple Wallet integration would be nice.

In Australia, our privacy laws state that you should only gather the information required to deliver the service. Any other information you ask for should be optional. There is absolutely no need to gather an email address, phone number or postcode to deliver this service. If I change phones or delete the app, for example, iCloud backup can restore ticket purchases. You should strongly consider an account-less approach for a future version. Combined with Apple Pay and respecting people’s UI preferences, it will make for a seamless, low-friction onboarding experience.

It would be nice to have more ticketing options, such as:

• 14 and 28 day passes so we can ditch our metroCARDs, especially kids who always lose them

• Multi-Trip – 10 trips for the price of 8 like the good old days (a reward for buying in bulk)

* Support for login via Passkey

Thank you for this app. Please keep improving it. Consider bringing it in-house so you can take ownership of the user experience rather than leaving it in the hands of NJ Transit.

### 2/5 — Love the idea - lots of bugs to work out

*2025-05-18, version 2024.1.5A*

I had issues with password requirements like others had. Not sure why I’m not able to use the credentials from the metro website?

I also can’t add my payment details. Just says an error occurred. Trying again times out. These details are already on the website. Can’t they be reused from there?

I’ll have to rely on my metro card for now but I’d love to see this work. Keep going! 🙂

### 1/5 — Seems to be no longer working

*2025-04-07, version 2024.1.5A*

After pushing through the ridiculous password requirements there seems to be zero functionality. Unable to add a credit card. Unable to buy a ticket. Just times out.

### 1/5 — Just why?

*2025-03-11, version 2024.1.5A*

Yet another futile token gesture from the government. They have created an app for public transport that tells exactly nothing about public transport. You have to use the link to someone else’s website and hard work to get any useful information like timetables or metro card balance. Skip the app and google it!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — not responding

*2026-07-24, version 2025.1.3*

after clicking buy tickets

### 1/5 — wth

*2026-07-02, version 2025.1.3*

I can’t uninstall this app to log back in

### 1/5 — bad

*2026-06-27, version 2025.1.3*

error so many times

### 1/5 — Useless with scanners

*2026-06-16, version 2025.1.3*

Sometimes the ticket scanners refuse to read my digital concession 28 day pass, leaving me to use my debit card..

### 1/5 — genuinely terrible

*2026-06-03, version 2025.1.3*

two authentications to log in, have to restart the app every time you open it because it loads indefinitely on the first pass, need to buy and activate ticket before getting on the bus because it takes a minute for the validated ticket to even work on the scanner

### 1/5 — Should allow to integrate with my already existing metro card

*2026-06-01, version 2025.1.3*

Overall I’m glad to see Adelaide is moving in the correct direction.

I was hoping this app would allow me to see and use my already existing metro card and just top it up like you can via the website and then use my phone to get one the train. But no - which is a real shame. Don’t need this app as I still have my metro card.

### 1/5 — Just use a metro card atp

*2026-04-19, version 2025.1.3*

I wanted to use this so I don’t have to bring a wallet with me but I’ve found the app consistently breaks either singing me out when trying to scan the horrible QR code design or it not scanning looking like a nob whilst everyone else is behind me waiting to get on

### 1/5 — Poor user experience

*2026-03-16, version 2025.1.3*

Doesn’t accept modern email suffixes such as ‘.consulting’ so was unable to register with my work email address. ‘Enable biometric’ is grayed out in main menu but appears in password menu and works there. Adding Apple Pay doesn’t work. It all feels badly put together and hasn’t had a proper UAT.

### 1/5 — Ridiculous Password Requirements

*2026-03-14, version 2025.1.3*

The password requirements are absolutely ridiculous and only serve to reduce security. It has long been proven that password LENGTH and not complexity provide better security than obscure requirements. Developers: search “XKCD password complexity”; your password requirements are hard for humans to remember and easy for computers to guess. Consider using a password complexity library such as “zxcvbn”. All the current password requirements tell us is that whoever wrote the bizarre requirements has absolutely zero clue about information security. I’d even hazard a bet that the requirement was copy-pasted from some outdated system requirements document which is 20 years outdated.

To fix it, remove ridiculous complexity requirements and use a modern library (like zxcvbn) to calculate compute complexity (ie how long it takes a machine to brute force the password). Make the various forms work seamlessly with password managers and built-in device password generators. These will generate far more secure passwords than a human trying to manually satisfy some BA’s ignorant perception of password complexity requirements. Grrrr.

Also seems like I can’t use aliases on my email address (I’m guessing, can’t sign up, no reason why). This thing is 20 years outdated already.

Trying again several years later: still unable to paste a password in. I don’t know what my password is, I just copy+paste from a password manager. It’s a complicated password which I’m not going to type out by hand. So I can’t even log in. Still. After how many years??

### 1/5 — Poor functioning app

*2026-02-20, version 2025.1.3*

Please reference the ways NSW and VIC done with their apps.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Be carefully with this “half- fraud” app

*2025-05-01, version 2024.1.5A*

Be careful guys if you have to use this app!
Don’t per-purchase the tickets!
The tickets will expire during the day!
And nothing on the page will tell you that unless you already purchased!!
You cannot refund the ticket if you bought wrong!

I pre-purchased the ticket tonight and want to use it tomorrow morning, after I purchased it I saw a few words under the ticket said expire today. So guys, be careful!

I can’t believe that this is a gov app. Who designed this?

### 5/5 — issue

*2024-10-16, version 2024.1.5A*

sometimes the tickets don’t work

### 4/5 — Not updated charging machine on legacy buses

*2026-08-19, version 2025.1.3*

Pros: convenient, fast, easy to use

Cons: some legacy buses’ machines have not been updated, so they won’t accept your qr code

### 4/5 — Work well missing 28 day pass

*2024-06-06*

I’ve used it a few times works well with no issues, it needs to include the 28 day student pass so we don’t need a metrocard.

### 4/5 — Apple Wallet?

*2024-04-19, version 1.0*

Great app and simple to use! But can we please have support for Apple Wallet? I’d love to be able to have quick access to my MetroCard on the go. Thank you

### 4/5 — Great first step!

*2024-02-28*

A couple of things would be great to have:
1) adding a metrocard, so i can recharge metrocard through it, see balance, tap a digital metrocard if i forget my physical one at home, lock the physical one if it gets lost, etc. also good so that I’m not always directly transferring from my bank card, keep things neat and organised.

2) add timetables ;) easiest to get everything i need for a metro trip all in one place rather than having to go to website which will take me to Google maps 🤢

I love a good SA initiative, don’t let it go the way of the Adelaidemetro App, please!

### 4/5 — Good start!

*2024-02-28, version 1.0*

A couple of things are needed:

Metrocard Support.

Tap and Pay support.

Metrocard in Apple wallet.

### 4/5 — Promising!

*2024-02-24*

A really good first step, Adelaide Metro.

Would like to see Apple Wallet integration (App Store says it supports it) and the ability to add metroCard functionality so I can have that on my phone through the app or my Wallet—hope that is in the forward planning for the app.

Again, great job. 👍

### 3/5 — Apple Wallet?

*2026-04-24, version 2025.1.3*

Great app overall, but one feature that would really elevate it is Apple Wallet integration. Being able to store my MetroCard directly in Wallet for quick, one-tap access would be a game changer — especially when you’re rushing for a bus or train.
This isn’t a new concept either. Apps like Opal (Sydney), myki (Melbourne), and even international transit apps like Transport for London and Clipper (San Francisco) have all nailed Wallet integration. Adelaide Metro shouldn’t be far behind.

### 3/5 — Lacking features

*2026-02-25, version 2025.1.3*

Would be great to have a metro time table and a feature to plan your route built into the app
