Much preferred Ring for that. The app is clunky and confusing. I have had to call customer services many times to try to action things. Very disappointed with the whole system. It’s nearly midnight and I’m being continually pinged with notifications because it’s raining or cats are driving by, even though it’s meant to be set up for my father’s property only. He’s not even there at the moment! ### 1/5 — Poor *2025-08-18, version 5.10.4* First time I have used the app for a while as I wanted to reconfigure schedules. It has been given a shiny new face out is absolutely counter intuitive. Arming schedules are buried away and I only accidentally came across auto rearming when using the link to a guide. Hey presto, a drop down list appeared beyond rules and schedules (which I simply could not set to walk - constantly getting an error message. A mature system like this should not make it painful to do simple tasks like setting at night and disarming in morning. Very disappointing ### 1/5 — Clunky. Slow. Awful. Avoid. *2025-08-13, version 5.10.4* Hugely disappointed with adt. We pay for their premium service. Everything is an add on. Even the siren! The keypad is like something from a poundshop. Cheap and awful. Often doesn't work. The app is dreadful and doesn't allow customisation even though it says you can. ### 1/5 — Stupid update! *2025-08-08, version 5.10.4* Went from having to click one button to arm or disarm, to now having to not only click two buttons to get there, but also tick two boxes to say arm/disarm quietly and then arm without delay. So from a one-step process to a 4-step process. Genius! Whose great idea was this??? And to add injury to salt, they didn’t tell anyone they were doing the updates, so our alarm kept beeping like there was someone in the house every time we tried to arm. Took a while to figure out there was an app update and a whole new process or arming and disarming. How many elderly people were left terrified there was someone in their homes by this stupid unannounced update?! ### 1/5 — Not modern *2025-08-07, version 5.10.4* Slow or sometimes no connection to doorbell. 3 different log ins needed the smart services side you cant even time an alarm to go off! Constantly forgets your details and have to register - not ideal for an essential and time sensitive activity! Terrible software and hard to adjust and work out how to pause and adjust settings. Even after resorting to AI and YouTube clips for help, still unable to set as needed. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Endless loading *2026-08-20, version 5.13.7* The endless “spinning wheel of death” (aka the loading screen) is not something you want to see when you’re trying to use your home security system. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much all the ADT app gives me. It simply doesn’t work: the loading wheel spins endlessly, with no error message and no way to access the alarm controls. For a security app, reliability isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s the whole point. ### 1/5 — Not easy to use *2026-08-12, version 5.13.7* Terrible layout, confusing, features and settings hidden away and hard to find or understand. Cant record/download clips as and when you need, the geofence rules not easy to understand - I’ve had to leave it as the engineer set it as I’m worried I may accidentally disable something. I somehow managed to get a voice warning on one the cameras, but for the life of me I can’t find the setting to disable that again. If you are used to Ring and HIKVision app (which is incredibly logical and easy to use) you will find this app confusing and illogical. Kinda put me off ADT if I’m honest, you have to trust what the engineer has done and leave it at that unless you spend hours testing and figuring it out for yourself. Also to add, in an emergency ADT can’t even access your camera so they have no idea what is going on the property, all they do is call you, you have to check for yourself and call the police. Rubbish to be honest. My Rung cameras does practically the same thing. Would get Verisure next time as they can see what’s going on - tell you if a car has pulled up to your drive and read you the number plate and call the police if needed + their app is easy to use. I have HIKVision in a commercial property and Ring cameras in another house so I can compare and Verisure on almost all my family properties. Not a happy fella. ### 1/5 — Poor equipment, poor customer service. *2026-06-15, version 5.13.7* Batteries drain in just a few weeks. Still have the straightforward options to Arm and Disarm remotely but new features, for example auto arming schedules and geofencing, make it even easier to automate things I previously had to remember to set. It’s very easy to see the status of your Home Alarm system in the app. The cameras fitted provide a fantastic picture and analytics mean very few false recordings. It’s very easy to view both live feed and saved clips in the app. Thanks ADT. ### 5/5 — Not sure about all the bad reviews *2020-12-28* Thought I would review the new app particularly following all the bad review. I’m not sure if I’m in a small minority or just one of the few with a positive experience who wants to leave a review. Nonetheless the app is great! Prefer it so much to the old one. At first it had a few bugs but all ironed out. A lot more modern and nicer to look at. Plus really enjoying the fact that I have more control over my own alarm system. Considering the price I pay I was impressed and happy to find that I could control my own system a lot more on this app than the old one. I’ve had no problems with connectivity or notifications and it does what it says on the tin plus a hell of a lot more! Very happy with the app! ### 5/5 — What an improvement *2020-08-21* This new app is a marked improvement from the previous one. The performance is great and the capabilities are much increased. I saw all the negative reviews here and worried this would find a way to be EVEN worse than the previous one. I have since come to the conclusion that the main criticisms are user error.
