One of the biggest frustrations is that you have to disconnect Apple CarPlay every time you want to watch or access videos from the camera, which feels completely unnecessary and inconvenient in 2026. The firmware updates are also poorly implemented. After every update, the camera’s sound alerts are disabled and I have to reconnect via Bluetooth, re-pair the device, and manually turn the alert volume back up again. This happens every single time and quickly becomes irritating. Another recurring issue is the voice recording feature, which seems to switch itself on and off without any input. This makes it difficult to trust that the system is working as intended. For a camera system that costs this much and carries the BMW name, I expected a far more polished, reliable, and user-friendly experience. I cannot believe how truly awful it is to access. After reading all the reviews on here, I’ve resigned myself to the two card method of reviewing footage on my pc and having a spare in the car. Nothing instant or intuitive with this software. I paid a small fortune for front and rear dashcam, but it is a complete waste of money. Someone went into the back of my Mini when it was left parked, but dashcam failed to record the incident. Sat in the car for over an hour trying to connect with the app (which kept dropping the connection and then failing to reconnect). Eventually managed to download two days worth of footage to review without finding the incident. Came back next day to download the previous couple of days footage only to discover that it was no longer there (yet footage from a week before to three months ago is still available). In addition, the date stamps on several videos are incorrect, plus despite having audio recordings disabled in the settings, the audio is still being recorded. The app “boasts” a Live View and a Car Location - completely useless since you have to be IN the car for them to function. Absolutely disgusted at the colossal waste of money, and will NEVER bother with a BMW/Mini dashcam ever again! Can’t recommend. It’s nothing short of shocking and a real disappointment from BMW! All of the previous reviews are correct: have to disconnect CarPlay, have to keep reconnecting the Bluetooth, firmware update gets to 99% then crashes. When you can manage to pull up a video the picture quality is really good, such a shame it’s not the complete package!! ### 1/5 — Good camera, useless app *2026-03-24* Update March 2026. V1.1.1: Still loses volume on beep and voice. Still randomly turns audio on and off. But, now any downloaded video files run at warp speed when you play them back in the app! Journey at 30mph looks like I’m Lando Norris. Update November 2025: Latest software and firmware updated. Still the same random voice recording on and off, still the volumes go back to zero each time you get in the car. Another * gone Update July 2024: Updated with the latest firmware. Reset the volume & voice again. Low and behold, next time I get in the car all the volumes at zero again. BMW, seriously, sort this out!!!! You lose another * for taking so long to fix this. Had the ACE 3.0 front camera fitted to my 22 plate 5 series as a replacement for the Surround Camera/Drive Recorder option which was deleted from my build due to chip shortages. On the surface, being hardwired, it’s always ready and the image quality seems good. Stick a 128GB Samsung Pro microSD in (suited for dashcams and CCTV) and good to go. However, still, after several updates and over 12 months, 2 problems remain: - Set the volumes on the app, for the beeps and voice replies, and it’s fine for a while, then randomly turns itself back to silent again. - The car has integrated Apple CarPlay and yet you have to faff about disconnecting CarPlay before you can connect the app to the dashcam. Really?? Surely this can be improved? If there was an option for live view without connecting to the camera via Bluetooth then I would of given 5 stars ### 4/5 — Good but could be better *2022-10-26* I purchased a new Mini Countryman and had the ACE 3.0 with front and rear cameras fitted. General the camera system works well, great image quality, the parking mode provides reassurance when leaving the car in car parks. But I have a few issues with the system and iPhone app. Firstly using the app I set the volume for the voice assistant and bleep signals, after an couple of journeys the volume has reset itself to zero, I am now resetting the volume every day before setting off on a trip. Secondly when you want to view old recordings you need to switch off car play on the iPhone, why, this does not make sense, it would be great is to be able to view old recordings on the dash via car play when the engine is switched off. Finally videos are only 1 min long so find a particular incident can be tricky, I would prefer an option in the app to set the recording duration to something like 1, 5, 10, 15 mins . Since then, the app shows a black screen in “live” mode, and it is no longer possible to preview or download video in the app. ### 3/5 — Good cameras. Terrible software *2025-10-30* Easier to pull the micro card out and put into a reader on the computer than to use the app. Never connects, have to disconnect from Apple CarPlay. Never updates your last location unless Bluetooth connected (which requires you to physically press the Bluetooth button on the dashcam). Voice recording randomly switches on and off. Only bought it as it was BMW product otherwise I’d have looked for something more user friendly. In a nutshell avoid ! ### 3/5 — Average *2025-09-19* Not a great usability. Disconnects from wifi ever 30srcs when trying to look for previous recordings. If I had a choice now I wouldn’t purchase this, much better just getting a very good quality dashcam not being BMW ### 3/5 — Gute Kamera *2025-06-11* Die Kamera an sich ist top. Allerdings finde ich die App eine Katastrophe. Sie verbindet sich so langsam mit dem Handy, ladet sehr langsam die Videos herunter. Beim verbinden zeigt sie oft den Fehler, dass man CarPlay ausmachen soll obwohl es schon aus ist. Dafür dass die Kamera 500 Euro kostet , sollte das schon anständig funktionieren. Wenn Unfall passiert und man sich nicht richtig verbinden kann um sich die Sache anzuschauen, ist echt sehr ärgerlich. Wozu dann die hohe Kosten wenn man nicht in der Lage ist , etwas anzuschauen wenn es benötigt wird.
