### 4/5 — Won’t play in background.

*2019-10-19, version 1.4.2*

Why would you NOT design it to play in the background for like, reading something or looking at art. Since no updates in 4 years, I don’t expect anything to happen from this developer. For what it is, it is fun and relaxing.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2012-08-11, version 1.4*

It's seen steady improvement over time and with the retina iPad update, it has once again reclaimed a spot among my favorite apps.

### 5/5 — Balm for Your Ears, Eyes, and Soul

*2012-07-29, version 1.4*

I would rate this app a galaxy of stars if the option was available: it is that good.
Whether or not you are a musician, whether you are barely a toddler or have one foot in the grave, your first tentative taps will effortlessly create musical and visual beauty.
You will be amazed, charmed and soothed by the Aeolian Harp, and soon take its simplicity and ease of use for granted - a trademark of quality apps.
Explore again and again; treat yourself and those dear to you with pure pleasure, let your eyes and ears open to new musical landscapes, leave the stress far behind in the bargain.
If you can see and hear, and if you have at least one operating finger, the Aeolian Harp will keep on giving.

### 5/5 — A Masterpiece of Sight and Sound.

*2012-07-20*

There is a lot more in this app than just the beautiful artworks it creates, which I have to say are amazing in themselves. You do also get a lot of control over how these visions appear, but being able to take snapshots at any point of the creation is clever, then you can save them or even email them because they are impressive.

But then comes the sound, the most important part for me, and this app certainly delivers creativity, scope, and ease of use. The sounds are all amazing and you can assign 4 of the 12 sounds at different compass points, which enables you to play all 4 sounds at once with the most amazing surround sound capability. Now you can also email the audio.

You can also solo any instrument and then have complete control over the panning control by where each note is played, but it's really amazing to be surrounded by four instruments. The music can keep generating itself or you can play each note with total control, and you can select the scale, even chromatic. I'm really taken with this app and recommend it highly, it's quite an experience.

### 4/5 — Lovely

*2012-07-16*

What's nice about this app is that it's so gentle. There are a lot of self-generating music apps out there but a lot of them come with annoying drum machines in the background. This app allows the user to make music that drifts like a gentle summer breeze. There are plenty of variables to keep the interest going and the sound quality of the various instruments is very good, especially with headphones. Serene and beautiful.

### 4/5 — Clean and beautiful sound

*2012-06-29*

Nice complement to another instrument or great on it's own for some ambient sounds.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2012-06-21*

It's really great and very therapeutic, great after work to help you unwind. There are lots of settings to play around with but if your not up to that then they have preset "games". Don't buy it originally when your tired though, get it when you have a spare five minutes to learn everything then go nuts whenever you like.

I would love if:

Music could still be heard when the app is in multitask bar.
More preset games

Otherwise fantastic!,

### 5/5 — Awe-mazing!

*2012-05-19, version 1.3.1*

Unbelievable! Adjust levels--Just turn the evaporation off. Level-up on elastics and swipe your own masterpiece into existence! Then, chill and listen. It plays for hours!! An incredible way to enjoy 'NEW' music! One Great Creation, especially for a few bucks! You can't beat this! Deserves a sixth star!!! An "All-Night-Flight" app!!! Great buy!

### 5/5 — Excellent for music lovers!

*2012-04-03, version 1.3.1*

Get this app if you love music or if you do not know how to play instruments but would like to. It is so easy and you can learn how to create beautiful music that will simply soothe your soul. All they need now is an update with recording ability!

### 5/5 — Great!

*2012-03-23, version 1.3.1*

This is an awesome app. It is very therapeutic to play around with. I am a trained musician, but you don't need to be one to enjoy this app. I love its simplicity. Way to go!

### 5/5 — Great for autistic and 2e kids

*2012-01-08, version 1.3.1*

Love your app! I have bought 600+ apps (conservatively), and I use this one the most when I want to relax. I have an entire wall of the art that has been created from the app, and have had people ask about how I was able to come up with such gorgeous digital art, when they know I have no visual art ability. ;-) I always take their iPads away from them and find the harp, and tell them "mystery solved!"

I also use the app to teach rudimentary music theory to my autistic and 2e (twice exceptional) students. They tend to love everything about the app, and even if they dont use it to learn much at the time, it helps calm them if they become agitated during a lesson.

While I am a rotten visual artist, i am a pretty decent musician and recording artist with multiple releases (most of them are even in the iTunes store, and I have a couple of Grammy nominations under my belt as an indie artist) ,and I run my own label for other artists as well. Though I can use multiple means of recording the harp into a DAW, it would be SO great if this app had a recording function! Maybe I am just missing it, but I have scoured the manual and worked on the app so much, I feel as though I would have run into it by now.

Thanks for the great app, and for allowing for feedback.

### 5/5 — Amazingly addictive app

*2012-01-08, version 1.3.1*

Doubtless will be used as music therapy. Has kept me out of trouble for the last 3 hours. Maybe would be good to have a wi fi direct to printer option also. Beautiful piece of architecture. Thank you from a musician!

### 5/5 — Worth the last 2 bucks in the iTunes account

*2011-09-23, version 1.3.1*

played for about 5 minutes: I never thought I could play a music instrument before I saw this crutch (v1.3.1).
dat is awesome (in sennheiser 280 headphones anyway)

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2011-08-10, version 1.3.1*

I really enjoy this app and find myself turning to it almost daily to create melodies. There are times that I wish I could record and would love to see that as an option in a future update. Highly recommend this to anyone.

### 5/5 — Great Upgrades

*2011-04-16, version 1.3.1*

I originally purchased the first version and was disappointed by the sound. But the upgraded instrument tones are now teriffic! Tons of adjustments allow you go achieve just about anything you desire in both sound and sight.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Hmm

*2013-09-18*

Total waste of time and money, zero pleasure.

Very glitchy - menus gradually corrupt over time and also parts of the main game screen suffer glitches.

Also, the volume is terrible, at times barely audible unless through decent ear/headphones.

Don't buy this its useless.

### 1/5 — Boring

*2010-09-12, version 0*

Nothing special. A waste of a $1.99.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2010-09-06, version 0*

Wow. For a music program, this is horrible. It's also a game?? Visualizations are good but this is completely useless if you wanted to make music of any kind. Waste of money.

### 1/5 — Lame

*2010-08-31, version 0*

Waste of time and money.

### 1/5 — Lame for 2 bucks

*2010-08-30, version 0*

Can't control or manipulate the color by touching screen. Better stuff out there

### 2/5 — Its okay

*2020-05-28*

Its alright. No AU support or anything.

### 2/5 — The changes have ruined I good me.

*2012-08-07*

This app use to behave in a particular way such that I could create art with it. Now it's list the subtl behaviors it used to hav n I no longer use the app.

### 2/5 — Pretty but uninspiring

*2011-08-16*

As a muso I took a risk and downloaded this for some hopeful fantasy of sculpting some nice ambient spaces using the harps but it just doesn't feel organic enough. It is however very pretty and kinda interesting for experimentation - just musically feels impractical. Maybe after some updates it'll improve. For anyone out there looking for what I was looking for the Aura/Aura Flux apps do a better job IMHO ( in a generative sense ).

### 2/5 — What Is Its Purpose?

*2010-09-08, version 0*

I've tried this app several times and I'm still wondering what its purpose is. The instructions need to do a much better job of explaining what the purpose is, and how to make use of it. Is it a "music" generator? Is the purpose to create designs? Is there a way to repeat or store and replay the "music" sounds created? If I understood it, I might give it a higher rating. Perhaps I've got a mental block because I was expecting it to be a "music" generator like the Bloom app with which I'm familiar.

### 3/5 — Recording

*2017-01-10*

Doesnt seem to record properly

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — GRose

*2020-11-01*

The app is a magnificent piece of art for those with ears to see 🙂. Yes ears to see.

### 5/5 — Fun and relaxing!

*2019-05-13, version 1.4.2*

This app does not model a traditional Aeolian harp sound, but rather uses wind and gravity algorithms to play the instruments in a unique way. Several variations, several modes, several instruments. Gravity and wind is optional. Pleasant sounds of plucked instruments carry on long after initial input. In other words, a fun little sound app with a lot of flexibilty!

### 5/5 — my aeolian harp

*2017-11-29, version 1.4.2*

truly beautiful app - have had for years now and the sounds still make me happy and bring such contentment to my world

thanks ever so much!

### 5/5 — Xoxo

*2016-10-29, version 1.4.2*

Love this

### 5/5 — Beautiful 🌄

*2016-04-15*

Awakens the creative flow & relaxes the busy mind. Great stress reducer, stunning visuals. Highly recommend it!

### 5/5 — Aeolian Harp

*2013-09-05*

Magnificent concept and execution of the concept itself !!!! From all aspects ,to be able to 'compose' sounds of nature , to being able to see the notes play out before your eyes in colours that you have chosen is indeed magical !!! I have NEVER encountered such a uniquely thought out app that can captivate my attention for so long !!!
I LOVE THIS APP !!! I hope to see more apps of this caliber from the developer !!

### 5/5 — Utterly amazing!

*2013-06-14*

Not sure which I prefer, this or Aquasonic, both wonderful.

### 5/5 — App of the future, now

*2013-02-26, version 1.4.1*

This is one of the best apps made period. I got it on my iPod touch, then had to get it on my iPhone, and finally on the iPad where it really shines. Art and music connected together and with so much freedom, you don't have to be a musician to enjoy it, only be in the moment. Many instruments and tonal scales to choose from and things like echo, colors, and gravity to tweak, you would have to be beyond ADD to not enjoy it, I never get bored of this app, it's been almost four years now. If you have headphones you will hear the amazing high quality of sound, and it moves from one side of your brain to the other, wonderful app, just wonderful. I will never be bored on an airplane again, and my little boy loves it too. Great job guys, exceeds expectations in a sea of app crap. Thanks

### 5/5 — Beautiful little app.

*2012-12-19*

2nd review: Thanks to the developer for resolving the saving image problem with recent update. Now given 5 stars for this lovely app. But would like to be able to save the intricate images without the note "strings" and other musical item overlays spoiling the images. I cannot find a setting to allow this.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2012-10-06, version 1.4*

Really great sounds. You can hook up your iPod to your laptop and use GarageBand to create background layers with this thing.
