## What is Aera?

Your body doesn't run on averages. So Aera doesn't score you against one.
It reads your sleep, recovery, stress and training against a baseline learned from your own nights and your own sessions. Then it explains itself, every time.

THE DIFFERENCE
Most health apps hand you a number. Aera hands you the reason.
Wake up to a low recovery and it won't just colour it red. It looks at what actually landed yesterday, a hard session, a short night, or both, and tells you what a day like that usually costs you, measured against your own comparable days. If yesterday was an ordinary walk, it says so instead of blaming it.
And when it doesn't know, it says that too. No invented causes. No confident nonsense.
Tap any number and an article explains how it was calculated, which research it rests on, and where the estimate stops being trustworthy.

TODAY
Recovery, Stress and Strain read side by side, with last night in a sentence and what moved with it. The background follows the hour, Morning Bloom at dawn through Deep Settle at night.

SLEEP
A score built from five signals, not one vanity number: how long you slept, your stages, how unbroken the night was, your sleeping heart rate and your overnight heart rate variability.
Aera is honest that watch-estimated stages are noisy, and weights them accordingly. Your bedtime window is learned from your own onset and wake times, never a rule from a book. Sleep need, reserve and debt track what your body is actually owed.

TRAINING
Readiness up front, and a session built from the week you actually had.
Tap any workout for a 3D flyover that replays your run in space, splits coloured by heart rate zone, grade adjusted pace on hills, and whether you finished stronger or eased off. Aera finds the routes and stretches you keep coming back to and keeps your history on each one, including whether you are moving faster at the same heart rate.
Load is named the way athletes name it. Detraining, Maintaining, Productive, Peaking, Overtraining. No softened euphemisms.

STRESS AND STRAIN
Stress is read from your resting and sleeping heart rate, your overnight heart rate variability and your temperature, always against your own baseline. It is kept deliberately separate from Recovery so the two never simply echo each other.
Strain scores what the day cost your body against your own capacity. Not a calorie count.

BIOLOGICAL AGE
Your body's age read from seven signals, including cardio fitness, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, movement and sleep. Each one shows what it adds or takes away, and Aera is candid about where the estimate ends.

YOUR BASELINE, NOT POPULATION NORMS
Most apps score you against a lab average or a 25 year old athlete. Aera learns your rhythm over weeks and compares you to the only body that matters. Yours. The baseline moves as you do.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account. No cloud. Apple Health goes in, and your health data never leaves your iPhone. Aera collects anonymous usage and crash reports so the app can be fixed and improved. Nothing about your body is uploaded, sold or shared.

EXPORT ANYWHERE
7 days, 30 days, 90 days, a year, all time, or a range you pick. JSON for your own analysis, a spreadsheet for Excel or Sheets, a polished PDF for your doctor. Your data leaves when you decide it leaves.

WHO IT'S FOR
People who want to understand their body, not compete with strangers. Runners, sleepers, parents, students, anyone who has been told their numbers are normal when their body clearly isn't.

Aera is free to use. A subscription unlocks the Sleep Bank, Flyover replay and the Monthly Review.
If you trust your own rhythm more than the average, Aera was built for you.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.3 — 2026-08-08

This is the biggest release since Aera launched. Almost every screen has been rebuilt, and several whole areas are new.
NEW: BIOLOGICAL AGE
A fourth tab that reads your body's age from seven signals, including cardio fitness, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, movement and sleep. Each factor shows what it adds or takes away, with an honest account of where the estimate ends.
NEW: TRAINING READINESS AND TODAY'S SESSION
A clear go hard, go easy or rest call, and a session built from the week you actually had. It learns your habits, adapts after a break, and never pushes intensity when your signals disagree.
NEW: YOUR ROUTES AND PLACES
Aera now recognises the runs and the stretches of ground you keep coming back to, entirely on device. Every pass is timed and ranked against your own history, including whether you are moving faster at the same heart rate. Rename, merge or hide any of them.
NEW: MONTHLY REVIEW
A walked-through look back at the month, composed only from reads Aera already made. Steps, effort mix, sleep, your standout session and a 3D replay of it.
NEW: BEDTIME WINDOW
Tonight's onset window, learned from your own bed and wake times, with a calm reminder and a home or lock screen widget that counts down to it.
NEW: THE FIELD GUIDE
Every number in the app now has an article behind it that states the actual method, the research it rests on, and what it cannot tell you.
NEW: WEIGHT
A frequency agnostic weight trend on Longevity, logged to Apple Health, with real change separated from water.
WORKOUTS, IN DEPTH
3D flyover replay of any route. Splits coloured by heart rate zone. Grade adjusted pace on hills. Whether you finished stronger or eased off. How your pace held against your heart rate. Running form, work and rest, heat context, personal bests and verified records.
SLEEP
Last night is now one instrument. Stages, vitals and restlessness on a single scrubbable band. Sleep need, reserve and debt account for what training took out of you. Your schedule read shows which end of the night drifts and what keeping your usual bedtime is worth.
RECOVERY, STRESS AND STRAIN
All three menus rebuilt. Recovery now says what moved with it, what a hard day usually costs you, and when you can push again. A guard was added so an unusually calm morning is not misread as a green light.
HOME
Rebuilt around your day rather than a dashboard. Fresh workout and sleep receipts, a rolling sleep week, hour by hour movement measured against your own typical weekday, and a background that follows the hour.
WIDGETS AND APPLE WATCH
Lock screen and home screen widgets redrawn for readability on busy wallpapers, with tap through to the right screen. Watch complications now carry the same reads.
EXPORT
A rebuilt Export Center. Choose 7, 30 or 90 days, a year, all time or your own range. JSON, spreadsheet, or a polished PDF report.
FASTER AND STEADIER
Sync moved off the main thread and now recovers from failures on its own. A crash on very large histories is fixed, along with more than twenty other verified bugs. Cold start is lighter and the app scrolls smoothly on long histories.
ALSO
Onboarding rebuilt. Themes and personalization. Metric and imperial units. Every score screen retuned.
The Labs tab has been retired. Its useful reads now live where they belong, next to the numbers they explain.

### 1.3.5 — 2026-04-29

What's New in 1.3.5

Smoother, faster, calmer.

• Scroll feels native again. Strain, Stress, and Sleep detail screens now glide on ProMotion — no more stutter on fast flicks.
• Snappier across the board. Cold launch, first-sync cover, onboarding, hero gauges, and dozens of small reveals tightened to feel instant instead of staged.
• Better copy. A few stray em dashes and overly clinical phrases retired in favour of plain language.
• Stability fixes throughout.

Go for a run and sleep well!

### 1.3 — 2026-04-28

What's New in v1.3

Bulk workout export
Export every workout in your library as a single beautifully formatted PDF, ready to share with your coach or doctor.

Workout share carousel
Seven new share card presets so your runs, rides, and workouts look the way you want when you post them.

Sleep Coach, made consistent
Tonight's bedtime, duration, and wake time now line up with the math behind them. One number, no contradictions.

Tonight reminder, fixed
Your bedtime nudge actually fires now, and tapping it takes you straight into Sleep instead of dropping you on the home screen.

Sharper first sync
The setup screen shows real progress, not fake motion. A live percentage, the current phase, and a smooth GPU-backed bar that keeps moving even on huge libraries. Finishes with a clear "you're ready" moment.

Stability
Removed every remaining crash risk we could find: VO₂ trends, weekly digests, sleep vitals, share cards, and bulk export. Smaller, calmer app.

Polish
Sleep detail now translates everywhere it should. Notification copy matches what you see in the app. Cleaned up debug logging that didn't belong.

### 1.2 — 2026-04-26

What's New in 1.2
Tonight Coach is here. A quick bedtime nudge, tuned to the wake you want, with an optional reminder.

Share your workouts with a new 7-preset carousel. Watch your distance PBs climb with rolling bests and shareable PDF reports.

Scoring got sharper: new Sleep and Readiness models, a smoother stress curve, and no more "empty today" after midnight.

Sleep tab loads about 5× faster. Onboarding, paywall, and detail popups across the app have been rebuilt for clarity.

Plus dozens of iPhone 13 mini, light mode, and sync reliability fixes.
