### 4/5 — easy to use but..

*2022-08-31, version 4.3.2*

i like the look and function of the app, but i wish there was a few more options for diagnosis selection, other than that it’s a good app

### 4/5 — Mostly Good, technical issues

*2022-08-02, version 4.3.2*

I’ve used it for a few days and honestly its been great for helping me be more mindful of my health.

However, i do have an issue with some technical stuff.
1) I can’t tell whether I have selected something in a toolkit or not. I suggest making a more clarifying identification for when something is selected
2) After creating a crisis/relapse plan, i cannot tap on the tool without crashing the app. If that could be fixed, thatd be wonderful.

### 4/5 — Great but crashes

*2021-05-13, version 4.3.2*

Super helpful but crashes sometimes.

### 4/5 — Love it so far but...

*2021-03-30, version 4.3.2*

When ever I go to progress and hit tools it completely closes the app so I can’t review what I’ve said or what I put in the app which makes it hard to get proper use of it.

### 4/5 — Naomi

*2021-02-08, version 4.3.2*

I love the app with the organization, options, and deaf friendly. What it needs though is better visual contrast. I have a hard time seeing the letters. Even with the contrast option on my iPhone.

### 4/5 — Read plz

*2020-11-23, version 4.3.1*

I love this app but for the past couple of days I won’t let me on it it just keeps crashing

### 4/5 — Fun and Useful anxiety tool

*2019-07-03, version 4.2.3.1*

I enjoyed this tool! I particularly enjoyed the bubble popper for stress reduction. I found that to be fun.

### 4/5 — Well-thought app for mental health

*2019-06-24, version 4.2.3.1*

I appreciate this kind of app aimed at teens as well as anyone seeking to improve their mental health. The vast amount of resources, tools, and links provided are very helpful for those that might not know who to look up a certain resource or location to a facility to get help. The visuals are also nice. There are few broken links though:

Anxiety —>resources—>dissociation—>nothing
Anxiety—>resources—>OCD—>intrusive thoughts—>404 not found error
Anxiety—>resources—>PTSD—>treatment metaphor—>404 not found error
Area under eating disorder is completely left blank

### 5/5 — Every Day Help

*2019-01-23, version 4.2.3*

There are so many helpful resources on this app - as you can keep tapping each new topic you find there is another gold nugget waiting there.
I wouldn’t say I am majorly anxious but have plenty of stress so the tips and resources are very much appreciated.
There are many ways I can help myself but there are additional resources in case I need more. It is always affirming to know that I am not the only one loosing it from time to time and that there are ways to help me get back to even balance.

### 5/5 — important suggestions

*2018-11-10, version 4.2.3*

amanda you’ve done an excellent job with this. reading the reviews. such a blsessing and helpful to many people in need.
i trust you will stay with this development. a few imporatnt suggestions imho:

guided breathing: CIRCLES instead of squares as default. (with an option to change to other shapes maybe- simplicity is good tho)
also DARKER COLORS : A calming green background instead of the glaring white would be much more relaxing. I too noticed what another reviewer commented on which is THE PAUSE IS A TAD TOO LONG AT FIRST. When someone is panicked , its going to take them at least a few breaths before they can reach that slowed level of breathing. Try to implement a PROGRESSIVE SLOWING to the breathing.

I have a few other suggestions. let me know if I can help. this is great work you’re doing. THANK YOU.

### 5/5 — bruh thanks

*2018-10-14, version 4.2.3*

I wake up w panic attacks every day and have a very annoying anxiety disorder . This app isn’t a substitute for therapists or friends or medication , and it even claims it isn’t that , but it can feel a bit like being thrown a raft when you’re drowning . It can help steer your mind from careening to back under your own control . It could be that little change u need to start snapping u out of the attack . It gives u a change of gears and it’s Free . Thanks , dev , I love u

Two concrits : the swipe back gesture doesn’t work when you’re in the middle of some exercises - a button may be better and wouldn’t clog the minimalist UI . And also , the pause after the “exhale” in guided breathing is like a second too long - the next inhale should start like immediately and it’s easy to fall outta sync

Anyway thank u for this app , I owe u my life

### 5/5 — Great App for Support

*2018-09-11, version 4.2.3*

AnxietyHelper receives a 5/5. Its user-friendly and peaceful aura makes it an app that is functional, gentle and helpful to use. The app provides many resources for those struggling with mental health issues and even provides a tool to use during a panic attack. The plethora of resources is extremely helpful to those who may not have access to such resources. Not only does the app provide tools to cope and information on certain diagnoses, but it also provides service providers based on your location. This being the nearest police department, emergency room, or even chapel. Furthermore, the app’s tools utilize various techniques of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), as illustrated by allowing the user to write out and process their current state and emotion. Therefore, certain tools prompt self-reflection which may allow the person to relax and reframe the way they are perceiving and reacting to things. The one weakness of this app is some spelling errors and the minor unprofessional language throughout the tools. However, as this app is marketed as 12+, it seems appropriate for the population it is targeting.
Learning about the background of the app developer really affirmed this rating. Amanda created something that she needed when she was struggling, and now she has given that to everyone today through her app, for free. Furthermore, the ability to utilize this app solo may be beneficial to adolescent girls. According to Laser and Nicotera (2010), adolescent females need higher levels and opportunity to beindependent for development of behavioral regulation. In addition, the app allows users to write out and question what may have triggered the emotional response. When adolescents can name and understand their emotions, they are able to control these emotions which can reduce impulsivity to act immediately on their emotions (Laser & Nicotera, 2010). Therefore, the app’s tools which allow someone to self-regulate and cope with their emotions may strengthen resilience and self-regulation in it’s users, specifically for adolescents. In addition, this app may provide users with the sense of connection with others, perhaps feel not alone in their struggles. Once you open the app, “here to help”, gently appears and fades. Social connectedness is an important aspect to adolescent development, and rather than this app fueling exclusion or victimizations (Barry, Sidoti, Briggs, Reiter & Lindsey, 2017), perhaps this app is a remedy to other apps or social media outlets that so many teens utilize daily. This app provides easy access to feeling supported and connected to others, ultimately feeling that they are not alone. This may be a deterrent to self-harm or worsening of mental illness symptoms.

### 5/5 — Love This!!!

*2018-07-02, version 4.2.3*

I honestly LOVE this, it’s the best thing ever, the background, the ‘here to help’ the guided venting , Everything is just perfect. i recommended this to so many people i know dealing with things. Who ever has depression anxiety or anything of the sort, i recommend this app, it’s been so much help to me!!! ❤️

### 5/5 — Great Idea put to good use! 😊👍🏻

*2018-06-30, version 4.2.3*

I just discovered this app recently, and I did have a problem I have been faced but once I downloaded this app, it was so calming and relaxing and I felt I was in a safe place at this point. I really enjoyed this app because it has a calming background and nice techniques that I have never seen in any other apps before this app should win an award for something. People have problems but can’t discuss it because they feel trapped but with this app, it could make a different. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2023-02-18*

I used to love this app but lately the app crashes immediately. I don’t know if the passcode option is the one to blame, but needs to be fixed.

### 1/5 — Wish I could use!

*2023-02-11, version 4.3.2*

Used to love this app and then it started crashing every time I opened it. App is now unopenable, used to happen on my old phone and I assumed it was because it was very old and broken. Got a new iPhone and the same problem keeps happening, app will immediately crash and be unable to load, despite being updated.

### 1/5 — How?

*2018-06-03, version 4.2.2*

How did this app get a scholarship? I’ve used it and deleted within 24 hours. There are much better avenues for help. Design is so basic I almost didn’t even bother in the first place.

### 1/5 — Wow

*2018-06-02, version 4.2.2*

Are you looking for a professional review and mental health expert assistance?

You won’t find that here. Instead be prepared to try to figure out how this goofy app operates by swiping left and right like Tinder for the mentally ill.

I believe a kid sat up all night doodling life quotes and made it into an app that makes no sense when one may be trying to seek professional help.

The most rewarding part of this app is removing it from my device!

### 2/5 — Review

*2024-01-30*

Every time I try to open my relapse prevention plan it crashes my entire app and it’s completely defeating the point of me having the app.

### 2/5 — Poor

*2020-12-05, version 4.3.2*

It’s too hard to read this - too pale, poor contrast!!!

### 3/5 — Amazing but some problems

*2020-11-17, version 4.3.1*

I was recommended this app my my therapist. It really is great for such a variety of mental illnesses, and it has amazing tools to use. However, the app will freeze occasionally and when I try to restart it, it won’t open, and I have to delete and reinstall it (which resets all my progress). In addition, the toolkit screen has a nice layout, but having to scroll through all the cards can be time consuming, maybe a grid like organization would work better. Overall this is an AMAZING app for anyone to use, and I think it can help anyone work through their diagnoses.

### 3/5 — Guided breathing

*2018-06-17, version 4.2.2*

The boxes for the guided breathing actually made me more anxious, unfortunately. It’s a great app otherwise

### 3/5 — Like the idea!

*2018-06-15, version 4.2.2*

I love the idea and parts of the app. My only concern is this: what happens if you are helping someone through a panic attack and cannot complete the steps? The only option as you are working through the steps is “yes I did,” but what happens if you cannot move the person to another location? What happens if the person gets worse? Other options there would be useful, too.

### 3/5 — Good idea, questionable execution.

*2018-06-04, version 4.2.2*

The message and goal of this app is great and I’m sure it has helped many people, which is great! Unfortunately though, I do have a few complaints. First off, I know that people use lowercase letters to talk a lot on the internet, but it really doesn’t translate well into an app design. It gives off an unprofessional and “I don’t care” vibe, at least that’s how I perceive it. Secondly, the design does seem lazy at times. There is too much useless text on some screens, (the second screen, for example), which makes it require unnecessary scrolling text boxes.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Five stars cause great and I wanna see it grow

*2024-03-19*

The one thing that kinda bothers me is the inability to go back to previous responses in check ins. And the other thing that bothers me is my friends can’t get it on their androids :( it’s been so useful for personal time.

### 5/5 — Please give it a try!

*2022-05-09, version 4.3.2*

i was a little iffy at first about the app given the lack of reviews/attention about it, but i am SO thankful i downloaded it! i cannot believe it’s free! so many other mental health management apps i’ve tried charge an arm and a leg just to have an account, but this one has all the features available at no cost. i love the color scheme as well, it’s very visually pleasing. calming, not too much going on or overstimulating with the palette but enough color to not seem boring or “clinical”. the tone of the text is very nice as well. it’s like the verbiage used is personable, friendly, and soothing. i cannot say enough good things about this app and i will update my review once i’ve had more experience with it!

### 5/5 — read this!

*2020-11-21, version 4.3.1*

i got this app and loved it. past week, haven’t been able to open it. nothing at all. complete crashes. please fix!!!

### 5/5 — thank you.

*2020-11-14, version 4.3.1*

honestly, just going through the list of tools made me tear up- it’s been a while since I’ve felt like I had someone there for me, trying to help me manage my symptoms rather than constantly criticizing them. the design is really neat and calming, and this is the only self help app I’ve found that’s free, and yet it contains so many helpful tools. it’s just really great, thank you guys ✨

### 5/5 — Simply Amazing

*2020-10-26, version 4.3.0*

Built from the ground up and providing every resource I could ask for, this app is try astounding! So thankful for the whole Astra Labs team working on this one!

### 5/5 — Love the app! One small thing

*2020-01-05, version 4.2.3.1*

In all honesty this is a beautiful app that has helped me through some really difficult times in more ways than I can count. I’m really grateful that it exists. I hope more people can find it and use it to help them, too.

I did want to share with the developer(s) that some text input boxes get covered by the keyboard. If there is a way to implement a scroll so that doesn’t happen, or to simply move the text boxes up higher on the screen just a little, that would help immensely. Thank you for building this app.

### 5/5 — A therapist’s review

*2019-10-09, version 4.2.3.1*

I downloaded this app after reading about it on healthline; I wanted to see if it would be helpful for some of my clients who suffer from anxiety and depression.
I love the “panic alert” component—brilliant! If you’re having a panic attack you simply access the panic alert and hand the phone to whomever you’re with and it talks them through helping you.
It is a simple design and very well done. I have already shared it with several people and will continue to do so.
I did not have any issues with swiping back and forth that has been mentioned by previous reviewers. Also, I thought the breathing app was well timed. It may seem that the pause is too long when you’re having a panic attack but working your way back to that breathing pace is ideal.
Great job!

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2019-09-29, version 4.2.3.1*

Great app! Clean, simple, and easy design. Although meditation should be added as a section! Meditation can help with so many different issues and help people better their problems. I love this app and use it all the time! Very, very helpful!

### 5/5 — Lots of information and helpful tools!

*2019-09-17, version 4.2.3.1*

AnxietyHelper is easy to use and deserves a 4.5/5 rating. It is inclusive and is not only free for users, but it also does not have any ads. It offers not only psychoeducation but a variety of quick interventions including breathing exercises, panic attack guidance, affirmations, and guided venting. These are all quick and easy to access. It provides information for users wanting to assist someone else with a mental health problem. Some of the tools utilize Cognitive Based Therapy (CBT) techniques like having the user write out feelings with “guided venting” which allows the user to vent and perhaps gain insight (Laser & Nicotera, 2011). It also connects users with resources in their area including police, hospitals, and therapists. However, this feature is map-based, and these resources are not screened. As Steinberg (2014) explains self-regulation and the characteristics it impacts are an important factor in success for adolescents. Many of the tools AnxietyHelper provides can help adolescents learn techniques to improve self-regulation. The app is not designed to be “fun”, but it is engaging. The default settings have white text on a background of waves crashing on a beach which while a relaxing scene, may impede low-vision users. The text and the background can be changed in the settings to improve readability. The app does not require a passcode, but one can be added in the settings for privacy. The app does have some technical issues, for example, some areas are missing links (like dissociation which is empty), some tools cannot be exited out of (like deep breathing), and the app locks sometimes. Peaceful, soothing music would be a nice addition to the app. The app does not need to be connected to the internet to work but some features, like the links to resources do need an internet connection. Overall, a very useful, supportive app.

### 5/5 — Really does help!

*2019-06-25, version 4.2.3.1*

I’ve used this app for anxiety and panic attacks that happen at random times, and it’s comforting to know I can pull up my phone and use the app to help me until I get home or get to someone I can talk to.
