### 4/5 — Not terrible, looks like notion but opensource, kinda buggy, opensource tho

*2026-08-06, version 0.27.1*

Appflowy feels a bit better to use, this looks and feels more like notion but like if you want to add a checkmark to a table it fails here, and the keyboard stays up when clicking plus sometimes, appflowy looks worse but functions better because I can do that without issue.

### 3/5 — Unable to sign in anymore

*2026-06-30, version 0.26.6*

I run a self-hosted instance and after the last update I am no longer able to sign in on iOS. I can still login on the web without issue. I am also able to sign in on the macOS app without a problem. I have tried reinstalling the Affine app with no success, please help!

### 3/5 — Too similar to notion and capacities

*2025-12-28, version 0.25.7*

Honestly don’t see much of a difference. Also don’t understand why it’s not just one fee (there’s an AI fee once you subscribe). Used it for a total of about 10 mins and stopped. Nice developers though….i will say that

### 3/5 — A great start

*2025-12-23, version 0.25.7*

Absolutely love Affine, having recently picked up an iPad Pro, I would love fully fleshed out Pencil support and believe this would take things to the next level. Right now every other word is picked up making it unusable and unfortunately too clunky for iPad use without a dedicated keyboard. Would immediately update to 5* if this was implemented as it currently feels like a wrapped application.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No longer works for self-hosted instances

*2026-07-23, version 0.26.7*

The app has been working well for me despite being in active development, but recently I have no longer been able to sign in to my self-hosted server instance.

3 weeks later: still not working.

### 1/5 — Cannot use edgeless mode

*2026-05-24, version 0.26.4*

what's the point to have this app if i can only read the edgeless docs😂

### 2/5 — I keep getting signed out

*2026-08-26, version 0.27.1*

I selfhost. It is logging me out all the time and i fine myself in the demo workspace on the moment where it matters

### 2/5 — Has portential, but basically unusable due to no export options

*2026-08-26, version 0.27.1*

Honestly, this would be pretty nice but without the ability to export my documents, folders, or anything else offline I don’t see the point. That should literally be a given, and you can’t even do that without making an account? At least you can turn off the stupid AI stuff, but then again, why is AI even involved when you can’t even export your documents???

### 2/5 — Poorly implemented

*2026-05-17, version 0.26.4*

I wanted to use this as a replacement of Freeform but the implementation is too poor. Interestingly you can’t seem edit the edgeless view using the app, and via the browser the menus all load on top of each other.

### 3/5 — Self hosted issues

*2026-07-25, version 0.27*

I was using this app to connect to my self hosted instance and it was working quite well to replace my expensive Notion cloud subscription. Until one day it decided to not allow me to sign in on the app.
I have confirmed the web version on the same device works, so I’m pretty sure it’s just a buggy app for self hosting. Hopefully fixed soon, but for time being, will be hosting something that works work the iOS app.

Update: thankfully, the initial ‘email not recognised’ issue has been resolved, now there’s an issue with recognising the emailed authentication code during login.
I’m sure this will be addressed. Will be writing up bug report in GitHub.

### 3/5 — iOS (current beta 27.0.beta) app can’t sign to to self hosted-server 27.1 stable,native/exchange 404

*2026-07-17*

Self-hosted server, web login works fine but the iOS app fails at sign-in with "internal error."
Traced it in my server logs: the app does POST /api/auth/sign-in → 200 (session cookie set, so the password IS accepted), then immediately POST /api/auth/native/exchange → 404. The native exchange endpoint doesn't exist on the current stable server (0.27.1), so native sign-in fails even though auth itself succeeds.
App reports X-Affine-Version: 0.27.0-beta.0. Please either ship the native/exchange route to the stable server branch, or have the app fall back to the session from /sign-in when exchange 404s. Thanks!

**Developer response:** Fixed with the new version, please try again.

### 3/5 — Should be privacy centric

*2026-07-16, version 0.26.6*

I like Affine better than Appflowy. But Notion blows both out of the water, especially with AI. All I want is a Notion like experience which is E2E encrypted, or at minimum self hostable and modular WITH the AI function!

### 3/5 — Works until it doesn't

*2026-07-15, version 0.26.6*

Worked with self hosted server until 2 weeks ago with issue signing in. Web version works so the self hosted server is fine. App cannot sign in even after delete and reinstall

### 3/5 — Love this on Desktop, but…

*2026-07-11, version 0.26.6*

I LOVE this on desktop, it’s wonderful. However I can’t sign in to my self hosted server on mobile. I’m unsure if this is a known bug or not.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — iOS (0.27.2) login still fails with self-hosted 0.27.3

*2026-07-25, version 0.27*

Three updates in and self-hosted iOS login still fails. I even upgraded my server to the latest (0.27.3) to rule out a version mismatch — no change. The web client works fine on the same server; only the iOS app can't get past login.

My server logs show the app's auth actually succeeds — sign-in returns 200, session exchange returns 201 with a valid session — but the app never proceeds past the login screen, shows no error, and makes no further request. So the server hands it a working session and the app just doesn't use it.

Reported on GitHub with logs.
The previous review i cannot delete for some reason, please delete my previous lower rating. I give 5 stars now, I believe this is an easy fix. Please test it with a self-hosted server!

### 5/5 — I LIKE IT

*2026-06-16, version 0.26.4*

AFFiNE feels like a flexible workspace that brings notes, whiteboards, tasks, and knowledge organization together in one place. I like that it is open-source and local-first, which makes it feel more trustworthy than many productivity apps. The iOS experience is already clean and useful for daily notes, project planning, and organizing ideas. Some mobile editing details can still be smoother, but overall it is a very promising app that I’m happy to keep using.

### 5/5 — Favorite Notes app, but …

*2025-12-23, version 0.25.7*

Everything is really good, I was the one testing it earlier, but why can’t I use my Apple Pencil to write/draw? There is a “Pen” function on my laptop, but not on iPad, where it makes sense. Please help

### 5/5 — Beautiful and highly functional notes app

*2025-12-23*

Thank you for making another free to use self hostable note taking app. I use this app across multiple devices and in the browser for all my notes. My work is even considering buying an enterprise license. Thank you developers!

**Developer response:** Thank you!

### 5/5 — This AI APP is beyond amazing!!

*2025-10-13, version 0.24.4*

I love that my ideas now have a place to thrive with AI. AFFine allows me the ability to finally organize my ideas, concepts, prototypes and built task systems with AI within a beautiful User Experience.

### 5/5 — AFFiNE Rocks

*2025-10-02, version 0.24.2*

The mobile app definitely needs desktop equivalent features.

- Deleting workspaces
- Editor preferences like hiding info
- Easy code block copy to clipboard
- Print options

It would be great if settings synced on our server so each client app did not have individual preferences.

These are not complaints though. AFFiNE is the best note taking app I have ever used. The mobile app is well made too, easy and familiar. Great job dev!

### 5/5 — Beautiful UI! Hope support more function

*2025-07-26, version 0.23.2*

Use affine in macOS first, I love it! But iOS version only supports basic text edit, even can not edit table view and kanban view, that’s necessary for me, hope to add this function please!

### 5/5 — Elegant, Powerful, & Worth the Wait

*2025-07-09, version 0.23.0*

Love Affine — its clean, elegant design feels clean. Beneath that beauty lies real substance: a powerful, cohesive blocks‑editor that stands out among knowledge‑base apps. Having troubles to connect to very basic no https selfhosted instance, that connecting well on desktop — looking towards to new updates.
