## What is After the Bell?

After the Bell (ATB) is a daily attendance app, built for the people actually taking it. Made for before- and after-school programs, day cares, and classrooms, it turns roll call into a 30-second job: tap a name, they're here.

Roll call that keeps up with you
• Swipe through your roster with live present counts (43/80 at a glance)
• Hide students you've already marked so the list shrinks as you go
• Filter by wing or room, search by name, room, or grade
• Jump between days with the date strip or full calendar

Your whole team, one roster
• Share a school year with your staff using a simple invite code
• Everyone's marks sync in real time across devices
• Promote trusted staff to admin — per school year, so access stays where it belongs
• Works offline; changes sync when you're back

The info that matters in an emergency
• Emergency contacts with one-tap calling
• Allergy badges right on the roster
• Notes and tags per student

Set up in minutes
• Import your roster from an Excel file — names, rooms, grades, and parent contacts detected automatically
• Scan your school calendar — review every event it finds, then import
• Carry history across the whole school year, including withdrawn students

A reason for kids to care
• Students earn points that hatch a collectible pet
• Families can watch it grow at hatchlings.chasesys.dev
• Seasonal sprite sets, and a reset whenever you want a fresh start

Reports when you need them
• One tap shares a print-ready PDF of today's attendance
• CSV and JSON export for record-keeping

Plus Sign in with Apple, Face ID app lock, Siri support ("How many kids are here in ATB?"), and 13 themes to make it yours.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.1 — 2026-09-03

Fixes for live attendance sync.

Marking or unmarking a student on one device wasn't always reaching the others. It now shows up right away.

Marks made with no signal retry on their own once you're back online, instead of quietly waiting.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-31

Morning and afternoon programs

ATB now tracks your morning and afternoon programs separately. Each has its
own roster, attendance, statistics and exports — switch between them with the
AM/PM control beside the date.

• Choose who's in the morning program from Settings → School Year → Morning
Program Roster, or set it per student when you add or import them.
• Mark a drop-in when a student visits the program they aren't enrolled in.
It's recorded for that day without affecting their attendance record.
• Cancel the afternoon program on its own — for the days weather closes it but
  school still ran.
• Percentages, missed days, exports and the Siri count all follow whichever
  program you're viewing.

Calendar

• A day's events now show at the top when you open it.
• Today sits in the middle of the date strip, so yesterday is one swipe away.
• Events changed on another device now appear correctly after a relaunch.

Elsewhere

• The app opens on today, and on the program that matches the time of day.
• Allergies and notes from imported spreadsheets are now saved with the
student. Students imported before this update may be missing them — worth
  checking against your original file.
• Attendance percentages now correctly exclude holidays and closures.
• Fixed crashes when removing a day's cancellation and when unmarking a
  student.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-21

Fixes a problem where signing in with Apple could stop your username and
password from working.

If you already had an account and then signed in with Apple, your
password was quietly replaced. Now the app notices and asks you to set a
new one, so you can keep signing in either way — including on the
Hatchlings website.

You can also change your password any time from Settings → Profile,
without signing out.

Already stuck? Choose "Forgot password" on the sign-in screen to set a
new password and get straight back in.

### 1.2 — 2026-08-19

SIGN IN WITH APPLE

Sign in with one tap — no password to type. First time through, you'll
pick a username and password so you can sign in on the Hatchlings site
too.

CALENDAR IMPORTS YOU CAN CHECK FIRST

Scanning a school calendar now shows you every event it found before
anything is added. Read the list, fix a date or a title, uncheck
anything that doesn't belong, and create the year when it looks right.

Events worth a second look are flagged — ones that fall on a weekend,
land outside the school year, or double up on a single day.

The scanner is more accurate too. It works best with calendars that
list important dates as text, and whatever it finds, you get the final
say.

HATCHLINGS

• Reset every pet for a fresh start, any time — not only in September
• New sprite themes, picked per school
• Creatures are handed out so everyone gets a different one before any
  repeats

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE

• Change your username from your profile
• Your role now matches the one your team sees
• Clearer colours on the calendar
• Restoring from the cloud files attendance under the right school year,
and shows it without reopening the app

### 1.1 — 2026-08-05

Taking attendance is faster and easier to read at a glance.

REDESIGNED ATTENDANCE SCREEN
• See how many students are in at a glance with a new progress ring
• Search and filter by wing without leaving the roster
• Colour-coded student initials, with allergy warnings right on the row

QUICKER SETUP
Signing in and creating a school year now takes fewer steps, with your
school name, year and dates all on one screen.

IMPORT CONTACTS AND DETAILS
Keep emergency contacts in a separate spreadsheet? You can now import
them straight onto your existing students. Everyone is matched by name,
so nobody gets duplicated, and anything already entered is kept.

HATCHLINGS, YOUR WAY
Rewards can now be switched on or off for each school year. Turn them
off and the tab disappears; points are kept if you turn them back on.

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE
• Tidier Calendar and Settings, with the things you use most up front
• Clearer sign-in messages when something goes wrong
• Fixes to calendar importing and syncing
