## What is Afterglow?

A post-apocalyptic sandbox MMORPG set in the American Southwest, 77 years after the 1988 nuclear war.

Designed for players whose lives don't pause for game timers: queue actions for your character to gather, craft, fight, and explore even when you're offline. Check in when life allows.

Choose your path as trader, warrior, or explorer. Skill-based progression means you define your playstyle. No pay-to-win. No artificial scarcity. Just a wasteland that keeps moving.

DESIGNED FOR YOUR LIFE
Queue actions for gathering, crafting, traveling, and fighting. Your character works offline. Deep MMORPG gameplay without the time commitment.

STRATEGIC TURN-BASED COMBAT
Your character auto-battles intelligently, but you can intervene for optimal results. Every weapon matters. Face mutated creatures and hostile survivors.

PLAYER-DRIVEN ECONOMY
Craft and trade with other players. Master rare blueprints and production chains. Specialize and cooperate. Your skills create your value.

SKILL-BASED PROGRESSION
No classes. No predetermined builds. Learn any skill through use. Become a crafter, fighter, trader, or all three.

NO DARK PATTERNS. NO PAY-TO-WIN.
Subscription unlocks full skill progression - that's it. No energy systems. No premium currencies. No manipulative timers. Just honest game design from a small indie team.

### 5/5 — Fantastic start-up game with huge potential

*2026-08-25*

This game has such great gameplay and mechanics. It’s definitely highly engaging, has an interesting storyline, highly diverse crafting and excellent art style.

Best bit is that it’s still evolving and the single dev releases updates weekly.

### 1/5 — Delete

Delete garbage

### 1/5 — Paywalled game

*2026-08-23*

Fun start and cool progression. Skill levels and equipment levels stuck behind 10$(cad) a month. Not even a one time payment.

### 1/5 — miss miss miss

………………

### 4/5 — Amazing

*2026-08-06*

Refreshing game I can play as a dad however subscription should be 3.99 max

### 3/5 — Rough but still good

*2026-08-05*

It’s… ok. The developer is open about AI use so while it’s not surprising to see, it’s painfully clear that it’s doing a lot of the heavy lifting in things like quest text. I find myself cringing and wanting to skip quest and POI text which sucks because I want to feel immersed in the world the developer is trying to build.

Outside of the AI storytelling, the UI can feel clunky and jarring. For example, crafting an item takes you out of menus and back to the map so you have to tap back into the tile, through various other icons, etc just to craft your next item.

Despite the shortcomings, I’m still enjoying the game. There’s a weird issue where I find myself wanting to engage with the game but sometimes I just… can’t. Everything takes time - crafting, harvesting, moving tiles, etc. This is, of course, one of the main selling points of the game because it means you can do real life things while your character does things in-game. There *are* moments where the game requires attention to meaningfully progress but you can’t mindlessly consume and grind anything out because, sooner or later, you’re going to have to queue up some actions and wait. It’s great for managing FOMO but it also means I sometimes can’t play when I want to. To be clear, I don’t think this is a problem to be fixed. Adding anything of substance, like a mini-game to speed up processes, would just bring the FOMO back.

So, at the time of writing, which is only a few days after release, it’s a bit rough around the edges but it’s still good. I will keep playing as I like the concept and hope it improves.

### 2/5 — Has potential

*2026-08-02*

I don’t know how deep I’ll be able to go into the game bc the UI is killing me. Having to double tap on everything is wildly unnecessary. Also, it’s $8/mo if you don’t want to be severely handicapped and skill-restricted. That’s waaaaay overpriced.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2026-07-30*

Best game on the App Store by far. Can’t wait to see where it goes!
