The initial purchase was fine. I returned the items to the store a day and a half after the initial purchase and I’ve been waiting over a month for my return credit to post it to my account. I have literally spent hours on the phone to get nowhere. I have sent and resent the same data to Afterpay that they have requested to process the credit and file a dispute with the merchant. The merchant denies that they’ve gotten any communication from Afterpay. An area manager with the vendor who supplied my purchase, is very familiar with nothing but problems from Afterpay when people are waiting for returns. I will never endorse or utilize this service again. Oh, did I mention they’re still expecting me to make payments? One representative says they will suspend the payment, the next rep or email communication says they will not suspend my payments. I've had the app for over five years, and it's asking for identity verification; I entered my ITIN, but it's not working. They really need a better identity verification system. ### 1/5 — Don’t use!! *2026-08-19, version 1.142.0* I experienced identity theft while using afterpay and my bank account was completely wiped out and I had to get all new payment methods. I reached out to afterpay support the next business day to let them know i needed help delaying payments for 10 days (the time my bank stated it would take for my funds to be returned from the incident) and they stated they would not help me with this and advised me to “pay early to avoid late fees” zero compassion, zero help. I requested to escalate the support chat (and followed up) and never heard from them again. I would not recommend this service to anyone. It is crazy to me that every other financial institution has methods of dealing with incidents like this while afterpay does not and just ghosts their customers. ### 1/5 — Worst customer service *2026-08-19, version 1.142.0* I’ve made a return to Nordstrom after a purchase. Nordstrom refunded me but Afterpay said it never got it. Tried 4 different Afterpay customer service representatives and they were totally unhelpful blaming Nordstrom. Basically they said they can’t credit me for a $160 item I returned to the store and is documented i did it so. I have tried to contact them regarding my deposit and all I get is the same message. After I’m done paying them I will never used Afterpay ever in my life. They do not screen their merchants for fraud, so I quite literally got scammed out of 90$, and the merchant is ghosting me so I have no way of getting a refund. Received an email after reaching out to in-app support, which was quite literally a copypasta, which I replied to with my concerns in detail. The response? The same exact copypasta’d email. Will not deny that getting scammed was my own fault, but the double copypasta email is absolutely ridiculous. Not even a “sorry we can’t help you, sincerely customer service agent Joe”. Just the same exact copypasta email with no sign off. Be EXTREMELY wary of what you buy with this, and know that you’re on your own if anything happens literally AT ALL. So to some it might seem as if I use it for frivolous purchases, but as a single mother who dose not receive any support from their father, I’m able to get my children quality basic needs.
