I legitimately teared up at the end. There is something magical about Afterplace, and that magic is in the fluidness of the game. There is so much to explore and get lost in this game, but you never really feel lost. The game mechanics and story come together in a genius way that no matter what choice you make you progress, whether you know it or not. Multiple endings so replay value remains pretty high. And the character development is wonderful with deep conversations with even the most basic characters. This game was crafted like the great games of an older simpler time where video game developers cared less about the profit and more about the product! I loved the characters, the writing is hilarious, the gameplay is simple but satisfying, and the music is adorable! Despite having simple mechanics, this game is incredibly immersive and conveys multiple elaborate endings. You can tell by the quality of gameplay, story-writing, and attention to detail that the developer (Evan Kice) cares a lot about this game. The game is so well put together, with an enjoyable and memorable story. The lack of map and just getting so lost at first almost drove me mad, but after a while I found I understood the world and suddenly I knew how to get around… and that all added to the charm. I was fully engrossed in the story and exploring this world. If you like Undertale/Deltarune you’ll love this, even though it’s different in many ways. The combat is fun and controls are incredibly intuitive. I love all the characters and even though I finished this two years ago, I still think about it often.
