### 4/5 — N64 not loading games

*2026-08-08, version 1.0.35*

Add a bug fix for n64 it’s not loading anything it just black screens after loading screen

### 2/5 — Captain Lex

*2026-05-18, version 1.0.33*

This app is too buggy - the user interface is confusing and it crashes when I try go to the settings option or my profile account. I will delete it.

### 3/5 — The GameCube and Wii

*2026-05-10, version 1.0.32*

I thought the app works for GameCube and Wii games as Google said that but I cannot have Luigi’s Mansion

### 4/5 — Impressive

*2026-01-26, version 1.0.24*

Since they’ve changed it so you can play the majority of the cores for free it’s much better. Well worth trying

### 2/5 — Great, until bugs kept me from doing anything.

*2026-01-25, version 1.0.24*

I was having the best of times, literally the best emulator app I’ve ever had on my phone. I even ended up paying the subscription. Then, one day I try to add another game to my files, and I realize everything I press just brings me to the Recently Played tab. When I try to link my account, straight to the Recently Played tab. I try all sorts of options and most buttons don’t even work anymore. For me, the app is effectively broken and I am so disappointed such a major bug has no fix. Even though it went through bug fixes three days ago. I was intending to keep this app for a long time, now I’m afraid I’ve wasted my money and will have to move on. Developers, this is a MASSIVE issue and needs to be addressed immediately. It’s extremely sad, I was so satisfied to feeling beyond frustrated.

### 2/5 — Hmmm

*2025-12-30, version 1.0.23*

Don’t like the new update, can no longer full screen, just some crumby letterbox screen now, please fix

### 2/5 — Disingenuous Marketing Practices

*2025-12-29, version 1.0.23*

App has made more features paid services and in the log, it only says, “bug fixes”.

A paid service should be in customizing an experience and not holding key features in an emulator held hostage. It’s only a matter of time before another app will offer these features for free and the app will lose popularity.

However, what bothered me the most is its recent control scheme overhaul on certain emulators; like the GBA.
It recently was “updated” to have too much customization, leading to bugs in the layout maker.

I see why the app is choosing to withhold functions like slo-mo, Frame-rate manipulation, and cheats for free. The customization features aren’t polished.

### 2/5 — It won’t let me get games

*2025-10-25, version 1.0.19*

When I try downloading a game it just loads for nine years and won’t stop can someone tell me what’s wrong

### 4/5 — Great way to play retro games but

*2025-09-20, version 1.0.18*

Every time I try to import a sega cd game my app crashes

### 3/5 — Please Add option to select multiple files when adding games

*2025-07-07, version 1.0.13*

Looks good but selecting games one at a time is too tedious and time consuming. I will stick with delta emulator for now.

### 4/5 — Pretty great !

*2025-03-18, version 1.0.4*

The app is mostly a more simpler UI for RetroArch but still it works great ! Has clouds saves if you have a subscription so you can just jump to phone to pc real easy. The creator is also working on balancing the freee tier and paid tier and he’s very chill on the discord. He has made this a job so that’s the reason there’s a paid tier to keep it alive! It also has filters built in which is awesome ! Try it out I myself don’t mind RetroArch being more complex but the simplicity and accessibility is just so much better feels like a 2025 emulator !

### 3/5 — Review

*2025-02-20, version 1.0.3*

Amazing. Let’s me play Pokémon games when I want. Came back to change this. It keeps resetting my game every time after I save.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — iOS app is just busted

*2026-06-30, version 1.0.33*

The web app and the Mac app are fine but the iOS app just shows placeholder thumbnails and none of my games do anything when tapped - tried on both an iPad and iPhone.

Really a shame since outside the bugs this is such a nicely polished cross platform experience- but it’s literally unusable on my account on iPhone and iPad.

### 1/5 — Can’t even try it without a subscription

*2026-05-16, version 1.0.33*

Paying a subscription to play ROMs on an emulator? Good luck with that.

### 1/5 — Unfortunate downfall of this app

*2026-04-07, version 1.0.28*

This emulator had seen a rise in popularity a year ago but has unfortunately been on a steady decline since. The reviews speak for themselves.

### 1/5 — smaller screen

*2025-12-31, version 1.0.23*

why would you make the screen smaller?!

### 1/5 — Most recent update broke the app

*2025-12-28, version 1.0.23*

Sucks that the most recent update broke the app. Can’t even try reinstalling because I didn’t want to lose save file. Sad.

### 1/5 — Recently disappointed me

*2025-11-28, version 1.0.21*

I loved this app due to its free features and letting me be able to play my emulators with free reign. It’s hard to find emulators that aren’t pay to play and allow me to do other features for free. So when I found this app it was so cool how it let me go really fast with its fast forward feature and it doesn’t make me pay. It also allows for cheat codes and it’s easier than ever. The when I recently logged in I had to pay a premium subscription for features that were previously free. This is so disappointing and just showed me how money hungry people are.

### 1/5 — It no work

*2025-08-01, version 1.0.13*

I tried putting a PlayStation game and I waited to load and I waited for a 2 hours and still nothing happened.

### 1/5 — Potential but pricey

*2025-02-15, version 1.0.3*

It’s a good multi emulator. But with so many other emulators out there, trying to charge £5.99 a month (same as Apple Arcade) is way too high when others on the App Store are free or a one off price Be good if a dev added something new which the others don’t have. MAME is dying out for an emulator but most don’t have it Shame about the price. It kills it

### 1/5 — Nope

*2025-02-12, version 1.0.2*

Thought this was worth a look but faced with a signing screen when first opening never going to happen signing up before I even tested it DELETED

### 1/5 — Bad emulator paid

*2025-02-02, version 1.0.2*

I don’t know if this is me but trying to find stuff in this is absolutely horrible. Only that I also have to all of the bios which is also stupid because there’s no reason to and just put it in there only that the emulator itself is all right quite difficult but I don’t know why haven’t a ai generated bio is so stupid it makes no sense who would ever use this. Not only that why barnacles do I have to pay the monthly thing and the free trial that is 3 days which is crazy. This maybe the bad emulator why do I have to pay to play consoles games when I can use other emulators, that are way better.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — This Emulator Stands Out

*2026-02-17, version 1.0.24*

There’s really no better emulator option on iOS. The features and ease of use being Afterplay above the rest, and compare favorably to PC emulation, at least for the unique polish and presentation. It’s worth the price of the subscription, and even then the amount of features you can access for free is incredibly generous. The amount of negative reviews here is unfortunately the consequence of the insane number of people who think everything should be free. Ignore them and reward the good work and polish this developer has put in.

### 5/5 — THIS IS AMAZING

*2026-01-24, version 1.0.24*

I really love this and this is one of my favorite ways to play retro games. The only thing I would like to ask is if you could add the PSP

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-12-25, version 1.0.22*

Played Pokémon emerald on it and worked perfectly

### 5/5 — Ps vita

*2025-09-09, version 1.0.18*

I love the app but I was wondering if you can add ps vita I really want to play PlayStation all stars

### 5/5 — Incredible Emulator

*2025-08-18, version 1.0.15*

If you’re looking for a front end that will basically do all the hard work for you of syncing saves and games across all your devices (including PC and mobile) then this is the one. And it has RetroAchievement support! I’m currently using it to play games across my Mac, iPad, and iPhone and it’s been a smooth experience all around. Totally worth supporting the devs with the premium sub

### 5/5 — R

*2025-08-04*

Fix gg and vb support

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2025-04-09, version 1.0.7*

Perfect for on the go gaming with so many platforms available. Love it enough that I paid for a yearly subscription to support the dev. Keep it up!

Only thing that’s absolutely needed is an offline mode so I can play games without internet access like on an airplane.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2025-02-17*

Absolutely love this app. I’m able to play games I haven’t played in years. Highly recommend

### 5/5 — Review

*2025-02-16*

Amazing. Let’s me play Pokémon games when I want.

### 5/5 — Favorite Way to Play Retro Games

*2025-01-24, version 1.0.2*

This has become my favorite way to play retro games. From the cloud saves, Retro Achievements, Netplay, easy user experience, and the various other integrations makes it hard for me to recommend any other platform. Everything is a very clean experience, which allows me to enjoy various games across different platforms and devices. The level of convenience, continuity, and functionality provided is so well executed that I can’t imagine playing retro games any other way. Looking forward to the future of Afterplay.
