【什么是Sight Words？】

Sight words, often also called high frequency sight words, are commonly used words that young children are encouraged to memorize as a whole by sight, so that they can automatically recognize these words in print without having to use any strategies to decode.

Sight Words（视觉词/高频词），通常也称为高频视觉词，简单翻译：是最常见常用的，孩子在不发音的情况下应该学会识别的单词集合。

【Sight Words到底有什么用？】

Sight Words包含了主流英文儿童读物中约75%左右的单词量。也就是说，儿童初期阅读过程中如果能识别这些高频单词，就可以在已经认识3/4的单词的前提下，更专注于阅读理解本身，而不需要一个一个单词的先拼读再理解的低效阅读。


同时，这些高频视觉词中有相当一部分单词的拼写方式特殊，也不符合Phonics发音体系，更不容易用图片（如闪卡）来说明。举个最简单例子，单词away,它既不是辅音+元音+辅音（如cat）字母组合，也不是辅音+元音+辅音+不发音E(如cake）字母组合；同时，两个字母a的发音也都不符合phonics中a的发音；最后又因为是抽象概念，很难用图卡来解释清楚。


因此，如果可以熟练掌握Sight Words是极有助于儿童的早期阅读和写作的，因为省去了Phonics的先拼后读的这个步骤，小朋友们不必再断断续续停下来先把每个单词的每一个字母拼出来再读出整个单词，从而大大提高阅读速度和效率。因此，Sight Words往往也被称为’service words’(辅助理解单词)或‘instant words’(瞬间理解单词)。简单说，就像你，我，他，的，地，得等等，这些中文基础汉字（Sight Words），在阅读中文过程中我们也是不加思考的理解（条件反射），一扫而过也不影响整体阅读体验。
