### 3/5 — Disappointing

*2026-05-09*

Clunky app. Not intuitive, not structured. Not easy to use.

### 4/5 — Can only subscribe via desktop

*2026-03-13*

Need to include a note that one can only subscribe using the desktop and can then use both the desktop and app.

### 4/5 — Lots of potential here!

*2025-08-02, version 1.3.1*

Thanks for making this app! I saw someone review it on YouTube and decided to give it a try and confirmed it’s headed in the right direction. I learned that my game as white is really good (65% wins) but I consistently get destroyed as black (35-40% wins). so I’ve been training regularly with this app to improve my performance as black.

My favorite thing right now is the opening trainer: the one where you have to play 10 moves from a given starting position and maintain / gain an advantage. It’s giving me a lot of attacking / defending ideas and showing me certain moves I play on impulse that actually worsen my game. After maybe 2 weeks, I’m already starting to feel the difference in a good way.

That said, I think the app still needs work: adding polish to the UI / UX, working on the analysis tool (can you think of efficient strategies to make analysis more engaging and conversational?), and maybe just reorganizing all the cool training tools you’ve built so everything’s easier to find.

Something I don’t find as useful is the chess feed. It was interesting on the first day, but then I never opened it again (and that’s fine — there’s so much value in other parts of the app imo). I use the app as an affordable, well-rounded chess coach, so the feed doesn’t seem that impactful to me.

Also, 2 random training tool suggestions: guess the ELO and guess the advantage. This would be an interesting way to sharpen my ability to figure out who’s winning based on any position.

Oh! And a suggestion for improving tactics: force people to commit the entire sequence before showing if they’re right or wrong. Sometimes I don’t actually know the answer… I just figure it out move by move, which is not good for my long sequence calculation ability. At least making this a “mode” would be super handy to force me to see things before I actually make a single move.

So yeah, excellent app, I really appreciate it after using it for a few weeks now! It was a little overwhelming for me at the beginning because of all the stuff I now had at my fingertips (UX improvements and progressive disclosure will take you far!) but now I’m really seeing the vision. I hope you keep working on this and actually consider this feedback for improvement.

Cheers, and good luck with AimChess!

Well wishes,
- Ozzy

### 2/5 — This app used to work great, but now fails on a regular basis

*2024-11-20, version 1.3.1*

You can’t subscribe to the premium features, you can get charged for it. You just can’t use them. Stick to the free features and you will have a much more pleasant experience.

### 1/5 — Connexion impossible avec Apple ID

*2024-09-22*

Bonjour à tous, cela fait des mois que je ne peux plus me connecter via Apple ID et personne ne répond aux mails / messages et autres moyens de communications utilisés pour contacter leur service client dont je commence même à douter de l’existence.

### 1/5 — Great concept but needs improvement

*2024-09-06*

On one hand I wanted to give 5 stars. The amount of insight into your statistics you get is so valuable. You can practice your past mistakes- it’s great. The app is one of a kind, so so incredibly useful for improving your play. But please put these improvements so that we can actually enjoy all the features:

A lot of the exercises and graphs are difficult to understand. If you do a puzzle, the feedback you get is “You (977) ⚔️ puzzle 1000” - what does that mean? Did I get it right? Same with practicing past mistakes, I select an alternative option to the move i’ve made and the feedback is “you played x before which was a mistake…” okay but does that mean what I just selected was better? Or did I do it wrong again? Feedback!!!!

Graphs: let’s say on a graph about “time management” or sth -the y axis seems to be between 20 and 80 i think, and there are three lines in the graph. The legend says that each colour represents a number, and in the top right corner it says “-15%”. Again, what does that mean? Units please! What am I looking at.

### 2/5 — Many of the “solutions” are incorrect

*2024-08-15*

When you choose the right answer, it marks it wrong. It wouldn’t be so bad if the app at least gave an explanation saying WHY it thinks it’s wrong but it doesn’t do that. It just says you’re wrong.

I wouldn’t rely on this app to learn chess, it’s too easy to develop a misunderstanding of the game this way

### 2/5 — Unfinished

*2024-07-11*

The app really has a lot of ways to improve. The puzzles are slow and you can’t always go back and look at previous puzzles. The only personalised part seems to be it takes puzzles from your actual game that you missed but even that is not always good. For example I had a mate in 4 I missed and instead I repeated moves. The puzzle started off from the second time I was in the position and there was no longer any chance to checkmate as the road to checkmate meant I would have to repeat the position and draw, so it was an impossible puzzle. When I clicked on the solution it said there was only one move but when I played it it said it was a mistake because it was a draw. The app moves slowly and most of the features you can’t access if you don’t pay. The good thing about it is the three free insights you get which are very detailed.

### 1/5 — App down for weeks

*2024-06-21, version 1.2*

App has been down for weeks. No communication with subscribers regarding when it will be up and running. Nothing. Very disappointed in the customer service of this organization.

### 1/5 — It was great until it vanished off the face of the earth

*2024-06-16*

I loved Aimchess. The insight and direction it gave me was better than anything I’ve used before. Puzzles taken straight from my recent games were game changing for me. Then a few days ago it was gone. Aimchess.com has vanished in all forms. Not a word from the developer, nothing. I guess I’d better cancel my subscription!

### 1/5 — Application inaccessible depuis quelques jours

*2024-06-16*

Aimchess est une superbe application pour s’entraîner aux échecs avec des problèmes sur des thématiques variés et des exercices personnalisés en fonction de partie que vous avez joué. Seulement depuis plusieurs jours l’application est Inaccessible…..

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No update

*2026-05-14*

The Aimchess app was a good idea, but the problem is the lack of updates. No news, no development, always the same beta things. I even took a premium membership two years ago but it is not worth it. I can’t understand why chess.com bought this app if this is not to develop it.

### 1/5 — App crashes

*2026-05-09, version 1.3.1*

When selecting monthly subscription the app crashes.

### 1/5 — Can’t access my account.

*2026-03-24, version 1.3.1*

Tried to access my account I am a premium member. But no luck. Out of no where there is no way to send a password reset email or any way I have found to contact a help line.

### 1/5 — The reason to never buy an annual subscription

*2025-12-04, version 1.3.1*

Logs me out once a week. Theme settings don't persist. Dark mode has white bars on the top and bottom that are blinding. Oh, and the app flashes a FULL SCREEN WHITE SCREEN on open. Why? What possible function does this serve other than blinding us? I've asked 100x on android, too. Please spend some time on your UI

### 1/5 — Can’t pay monthly?

*2025-08-29, version 1.3.1*

Strange enough the annually option doesn’t have no issue, but if I choose monthly the app closes every time

### 1/5 — Don’t do it

*2025-03-09*

This app seems ok, and the opening trainer is neat, but basically it just doesn’t work. Using this app regularly, my ELO has gone DOWN. I would recommend spending the money elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Lost premium access

*2025-01-18, version 1.3.1*

I have lost premium access after purchasing through Apple. The app keeps asking me to sign in with a different account and when I try to resubscribe it says I’m already subscribed and need to log in with that account. This app is confused. Please help.

### 1/5 — Don’t use this

*2024-10-14*

Don’t buy this or you will waste of money!

### 1/5 — Bugged

*2024-10-12*

The app is closing by itself when i try to buy the premium membership.

### 1/5 — Unending Fraudulent Billing Long After You Cancel Membership

*2024-09-30, version 1.3.1*

Aimchess will continue to bill you/access your AppleWallet long after you’ve cancelled your premium trial membership and they no longer have the authority to do so. Furthermore, customer service support is A PIPE DREAM. Want to resolve their FRAUDULENT billing via chess.com support pages? Welcome to the abyss. Aimchess is a Consumer Fraud Action Lawsuit in the Making. Stay away unless you have money & time to burn.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Aimchess is the best chess learning app I know.

*2026-06-23*

It combines training, analysis, and personal weaknesses in a really useful way, helping you improve in a focused manner.

What I like most is that you don’t just solve random exercises — you work on your own mistakes. It almost feels like having a personal training plan.

It’s very sad that Aimchess no longer seems to be actively maintained. The concept is excellent and definitely deserves further development.

### 5/5 — Noice

*2025-12-26, version 1.3.1*

### 5/5 — So Helpful

*2024-12-20, version 1.3.1*

This start of December, I downloaded Aimchess. As I heard it could help out a ton. And those people were right.
Great membership deal
Personalized training
Game reviews and analysis
It is helpful that I went from being stuck at 1700, all the way to about 1900 OTB. As I’m writing this right now, I currently have 10 win streak on chess.com!(December 19, 2024)
Thank you so much Aimchess for helping me explore my opportunities for chess.
-Teacher of a intermediate chess class

### 5/5 — Bottom line you will get better at chess

*2024-12-09*

This app will make you better at chess! I’m definitely seeing the board better.

Updated to 5 stars!

Sensei is pretty cool.

Daily plan I wish there was a countdown or list of exercises with progress bar. As a newb failing the same two exercises and not knowing where I’m at in the list of exercises is frustrating . This is minor thing.

Daily challenges. Wish there were more daily challenges.

Playground wish there was a hint limiter. Like I only want x number of hints.

### 5/5 — Great chess app

*2024-06-15*

This app is excellent for improving your chess game, day to day challenges that show where how to improve your chess game …. But I’m can’t log into my acct. please help

### 5/5 — The Best!!

*2024-05-11*
