### 3/5 — Can’t use with Nikon d500

*2023-03-30, version 3.6.22*

I bought this system a year or two ago and have used it successfully with a Nikon d7000. However I now have added a d500 and would like to use my Case system with that but the connecting cable is not compatible as the d500 does not accept a conventional usb cable. I have attempted to contact the manufacturer using the email on the box I received the Case remote in but my message has been returned undelivered leaving me frustrated. Hopefully someone will read this and email me please??

Given that it’s been ages since I first posted the above review and no one has had the decency to respond I would downgrade my rating further

To make matters worse I have downloaded an update and now find it won’t even connect to my D7000!!!! 😡😡😡. Essentially this makes it useless and a total waste of money. I won’t hold my breath expecting a response from the manufacturers🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

### 2/5 — Not Working on iPhone 14!!

*2023-03-30, version 3.6.22*

Just purchased this little device to work with my 1DX Markll and iPhone 14. Unfortunately no matter what I do it cannot find the device on the app. It works perfectly on my Samsung Galaxy S20+ so I know I’m setting it up correctly. Only the 20+ is a company phone so I need it on my iPhone.

### 2/5 — Works once

*2022-02-18, version 3.6.20*

Everything is fine at the start of the shoot. But once you disconnect or power off camera it NEVER finds the camera again. Tried everything, sometimes rebooting the iPad does it but that not even resolved the issue. Stay away!

### 3/5 — Falls just short in an industry where details matter

*2021-09-12, version 3.6.12*

To make decent hardware is one thing, but to create an accompanying app that upholds the brand? Dicey for any business, and the struggles are exemplified here with Air Remote.

Functionality-wise almost everything you’d need for client monitoring is there, including the ability to lock camera controls with a PIN code to prevent accidental changes by the client while shooting.

However, screen space is a premium on a 9-12” display, and the poor use of that space results in this app looking quite unprofessional on a shoot in front of a client:

The app is not natively designed for the many different iPad display sizes. It simply scales the one version for all sizes, which means that on any iPad large enough to use as a client monitor the interface panels and buttons are huge, bringing us to the other major issue…

The interface cannot be hidden. Honestly this app would earn back the two lost stars if I could just see the latest image and nothing else when needed. An option to hide the interface or individual strips of buttons is an absolute must for future versions.

These issues represent a lack of care for the user experience, and while some slack is to be cut for a company that’s known for brightly coloured cables and not the tethering software of multi billion dollar corporations, a creative professional wears these products as a part of their own brand, and may ultimately choose to protect that brand by choosing another solution.

### 3/5 — Can’t find camera over and over

*2021-03-03, version 3.6.12*

This thing is great when it works, but when you need it with a client if fails and fails a lot. Not reliable. It is downright embarrassing to use this.

### 2/5 — Needs an update.

*2020-09-19, version 3.5.8*

Updated my Apple OS and now can’t get the air remote to work

### 2/5 — Works really well if you don’t mind opening and closing the app literally 10 times

*2019-12-11, version 3.2.14*

Title says it. The WiFi will connect but to actually get the camera (Nikon d800) to connect, I need to open and close the app 10 times before it does.

Absolutely not worth $150 for the troubles it has. Though it works well once it does actually work.

### 3/5 — Case air

*2019-11-12, version 3.2.14*

This works well with canon 50d at the moment the biggest down side is on the app you can’t select where you’re photos download automatically to.
Eg. Dropbox,Amazon drive or any cloud sharing.
Which can be a pain. I have saved to stars for this feature

### 2/5 — Needs an exterminator

*2019-11-03, version 3.2.14*

This app has so many bugs you should hire an exterminator before downloading. When it works properly it’s awesome but that’s about 10% of the time. Y’all got work to do developers.

### 2/5 — Not working with IPad OS

*2019-10-09, version 3.2.14*

Not working since the new iPad update, please update ASAP! Thanks

### 2/5 — Not working

*2019-09-08, version 3.2.14*

Before updates everything was working but now nothing but WiFi is connected. Tried everything, restart, plugs in and out and made sure they were clean. Will not connect to app 😖

### 2/5 — When it works....

*2019-08-24, version 3.2.14*

I have not been impressed. It’s ‘buggy’ and connecting and staying connected should be simpler. They include a variety of cables but still not one with USB-C. And they updated the app to work with the Canon EOS R which is USB-C. But still no cable and using an adaptor cable doesn’t work. So if I use the Case Air I have to use an older camera. What good is that? I like the idea of the product, just not the effort it takes to make it work.

### 1/5 — Let the buyer beware for canon (?) - not Nikon!

*2019-07-01, version 3.2.14*

1) the only way to connect to this unit is through it's own local WiFi meaning that you loose network connection. This should have been designed to connect using Bluetooth -

2) I have a iPad Pro - the software is VERY SLOW and get stuck in certain modes. For instance It continuously gets stuck in video mode and refuses to let go. I actually un-installed and re-installed the App to make it work.

3) do not expect anything like realtime image or picture capture - it just doesn't work.

4) It's clearly made for Canon and not Nikon

Too bad cannot remotely recommend this. It's a marketing masterpiece and engineering disaster.

### 2/5 — Sonfar so bad

*2019-04-07, version 3.2.12*

I think I will be returning this and actually paying 50 bucks more for the cam ranger. I wanted to test this to see if it would work and so far it has worked once. Other times its freezing continuously. Im not downloading anything or updating anything. My philosophy, sell me what works already. I don't have the money to waste to do you a favor to do me a favor. 👎🏻

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Lost your money on this product

*2024-03-12, version 3.6.22*

App no work in Apple phones horrible strongly recommended to stay a way from this product over price n no work well

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing

*2022-01-22, version 3.6.20*

Keeps crashing

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2021-04-11, version 3.6.12*

While changing the shutter speed or iso the histogram never updates. Only way to see if I have the correct setting for me is to go into library and view photo and try again. I have new software. If I’m doing something incorrectly let me know please!
I’m using Nikon d 810. What’s the use tethering if I don’t see live update?if there is a fix I will update my review.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work on iPhones

*2021-03-28, version 3.6.12*

Does not connect at all on iPhone... any of my iPhones. Would sometimes work on my iPad, but no luck on phone. Very disappointed.

### 1/5 — Out of Box Failure- Detection problem from app on iphone

*2020-07-12, version 3.5.8*

App is installed on iphone 8+ and air case connected to Nikon d750. Tapping on app returns detection failure message. Tapping on app return case detection failure message. Disappointed. Note: Charged Case Air overnight but light show yellow/orange and not green when on camera.

### 1/5 — Wow, practically unusable...

*2020-05-02, version 3.5.8*

I’ve been shooting tether for a long time. Was looking for away to be tethered... without being tethered.

Bought their $350 unit. Even though Catalina is not compatible, I found a work around to us in capture one. Just set a favorite folder in you session that points to a folder that their program sinks with and your good. That’s the good bit. Yay, I can use it. Slows the work flow cause I lose automatic naming as you take pictures in capture one, but. If I don’t want to be on a cable it’s nice.

Air remote app on ipad... is. Horrendous. The description, has lots of features to control camera... and yeah. It does that. But the image quality to preview is terrible. I understand if you had a temporary low quality so you could start seeing it.... but why would it never get my 50mp image to come through sharp??? I have to enable a auto download... that saves it to my iPad. Just so I can look at it. But the app can’t work in the background, so I can’t even just leave that open.

If you can see live view pretty quickly... I have to think there is a way to stream an image of that quality immediately to the pad(cause it can do that as a video) so you can review lighting setup immediately. Then over the next few seconds the actual file comes up. Just have preview reference a lower quality or something. Even removing the speed, no EVER having a high quality image come up is crazy. So the only work around is to save... JPGs AND RAW. Which is a waste of space. And

Go back to the drawing board please. Should have to work around or change how you work to use something. You even say that in your video. Why I bought this. Sadly. To use wireless, I have to change a lot.

Will still use in situations where cable is not feasible... but was hoping this would be how in shot on location now. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Honestly the best feature is seeing all the images on your card. Makes it quicker to clear out images you don’t want. But again... sadly. If I want to really review the image on RAW. I have to download to my iPad and look in photos app.

### 1/5 — Wth ?

*2020-04-18, version 3.5.8*

This app did not work as it claimed it would or i am unsure about it being able to control and pair any remote wireless camera any help or suggestions??

### 1/5 — Does not connect Sony A7III

*2020-01-26, version 3.5.7*

I recently purchased the Air Direct and have not been able to connect my camera to neither the Mobile application or the MAC software. When opening the App it never finds the camera and cannot use the Air Direct (I have tried in my IPhone XR Version 13.3, IPad Pro 13.3 and Mac Book Pro.... I have a SonyA7III... I have also tried to contact you through costumer support with no response, and through Instagram... please provide a solution.

### 1/5 — Serious Performance Issues on iOS Devices

*2020-01-16, version 3.5.7*

Just purchased an Air Direct and have found its file transfer time on iOS devices is REALLY slow. A high-quality JPEG on a Nikon Z7 takes 25 seconds (this is JPEG only. NO RAW FILES BEING TRANSFERRED) to transfer to an iOS device. Distance is only 5’. Doesn’t matter if 2.4 or 5GHz is being used. Same slow transfer. I’ve tried several iphones/ipads and all are slow. The exact same camera/photo/distance going to an Android phone takes 1/3 the time. Using the Air Direct in ADU mode to a Windows tablet running Capture One is pretty quick. I can transfer a RAW file to the windows tablet quicker than a JPEG goes to an iOS device. Would hold off on buying the Air Direct if you plan on using iOS devices. And yes, I’m using the latest version of the iOS appl and I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled with no change in performance.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t recognize my D810 on iPhone X

*2019-07-13, version 3.2.14*

Just paid $170 for this to allow me to tether my Nikon D810 to Wi-Fi. Charged the device, connected my phone to the Case Wi-Fi in phone ‘settings’ (that part worked), but then I open the app and it doesn’t ‘see’ my camera. Ever. Never has once.

I’ll be calling Case Monday to give them one shot to sort it out but if not, I’m returning this ASAP.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — New app is excellent

*2019-12-28, version 3.5.7*

I downloaded the new app and I am extremely happy with it. It has the ease of use and functionality I need and it works very smoothly

### 5/5 — Works exactly as I expected it to

*2019-12-28, version 3.5.6*

Quick transfer. Easy to use.

### 5/5 — Air Remote, Cool Tech that Works

*2019-12-28, version 3.5.6*

I am using Air Remote as a new user, very pleased with how easy it was to connect and synch to my camera(s). I have more than one daily use camera, so easy switching is important. There are multiple WiFi and Bluetooth devices around us all of the time, somehow Air Remote is not interfered with and images, etc transfer without a problem.

Nice to be able to have a few less cables around an already busy work area....

### 5/5 — Air Remote Update is Great!

*2019-12-27, version 3.5.6*

I just got notified that Air Remote was recently updated from Case Remote App to support the new Air Direct device from Tether Tools. I gave the new app a try and an happy to see new features I wanted. They added the ability to save Raw to the card and only transfer JPEGs and social share which helps get my image to an off-site client when needed.

### 5/5 — Love this tool

*2019-06-09, version 3.2.14*

Works great focuses as requested. Easy to use and does what is asked. Focus stacking could be improved as will only do 9 shots at a time. Also is restricted to set distances. The only annoying aspect is having to go into settings to change the focus button amount. Would prefer that this was easier.

### 5/5 — Works perfect, glad I supported them!

*2018-12-09, version 3.2.10*

Device + App works perfect on my D90. Allows me to capture things remotely and see it straight on my phone. They just need to update the app so it takes advantage of my iphone X screen size. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Beyond satisfied!

*2018-09-02, version 3.2.8*

This has been the perfect solution for me when i simply don’t want to bring a laptop along. So far I’ve used it on 6 location shoots and it’s been stable, easy, and let’s me focus on creating images. I’ll never be without it in my bag from now on!

### 5/5 — Works great with my EOS Rebel 2Ti

*2018-01-21, version 3.2.2*

This hardware and app work spectacularly well with my 2Ti and my iPhone X (11.2.2). I am currently using it to photograph birds on my winter feeder. I have almost complete control of the camera and all its settings. I only wish I had powered zoom on my telephoto ( just a pie in the sky idea ). I get great pictures with this setup.

### 5/5 — Useful and small

*2017-12-08, version 3.2.2*

This is a great tool for traveling light while I’m taking photos. Easy to connect and see my shots on a bigger higher resolution screen than what’s on the back of my camera.

### 4/5 — Reading developer responses helped

*2020-01-24, version 3.5.7*

I was struggling to get the software to do what I wanted - show fully downloaded images on my iPad for preview rather than relying on the tiny display on the back of my camera. I was shooting in RAW with my Nikon d850 and images were never downloaded. After reading developer comments, I’m now shooting RAW + jpg basic with “Save Images” and “Ignore Raw” settings in the app. Takes about 5 seconds for image to load which is probably about all the wireless tech will allow. I’m not sure how large the jpg file is but it’s a 45 megapixel sensor... obviously can’t wait for the image on every shot, but let’s me check image quality and lighting before the shoot really begins. I’m using this in the field where bringing a computer just is too bulky
