Okay, TL;DR Been using Airr for a year now… I know it was basically first in the space and competitors have sprung up because I’m familiar with the interface and it was recommended by a friend I respect. However, the app is so darn buggy it crashes CONSTANTLY, interrupts playback and deletes bookmarks I send. Also, I want to love the sharing snippets feature for audio but the loading is so slow or nonfunctional I give up and end up not sharing my airrquotes….. I know it’s hard to run a mobile app company in a space that’s eventually going to shift away from mobile (but you’ve still got time), and you’ve got lots of other concerns but nailing your core functionality so the UX it is less of a headache / heartbreak situation will ultimately improve the value of your company/app. … I realize that was more than you probably wanted or needed and sorry for being on my soapbox but I love the premise of what you’re doing and I have been loyal and don’t want to get lost to churn or competition. Problem is it doesn’t work properly anymore and there’s a few feature requests I would like to see - podcast pauses playing went swapping to another app - podcast stop playing when away from the app randomly, seems to crash in the background - please give user option to switch to 30 second intervals to fast forward/rewind or for specific podcast this can be changed - can’t group or create filters. I have too many podcast in my feed so it’s impossible to find one podcast to listen based on a specific topic if I don’t recall the name to search ### 3/5 — Amazing concept with a long way to go *2021-07-15, version 2.0.12* First of all, let me just say this app offers the answer to a lot of my frustrations. I listen to MANY long form podcasts and I often want to capture snippets on-the-go. This app purports to let me do that, and it sometimes does. Still, the app has a long way to go. 1. It’s very buggy. It crashes all the time, and I’ve been unable to find a log that might allow me to troubleshoot why it’s crashing. 2. The interface is poorly designed and difficult to use. I’d like the app to launch on my library page, not some page with a bunch of random quotes from random things that I don’t care about at all. I already know what I want to listen to…I just want to listen to it in as few clicks as possible. I’d also like my podcasts to be organized together, in two-level structure, like most podcast apps. 3. FAQs are missing or hard to find. It has taken me a long time to figure things out (e.g. how can I export my quotes? if I delete the downloaded copy of a podcast I have listened to, does it delete my quotes too?) It has a long way to go, but like I said in the beginning - this app is exactly what I’ve been looking for so I will persevere through the bugs, etc., and keep using it! ### 3/5 — Changes in the wrong direction *2021-03-13, version 1.0.62* I used to LOVE this app. Everything was seamless - the flow of being able to clip, edit, name, and go back to listening was elegant and super easy. Lately, lots of shifts away from this have me disappointed. First of all the “clip a quote” button often doesn’t work. When it does, the screen only partially scrolls down - to where I can’t see the clip or what I’m typing. From there, I now have to press a button to edit the clip - not a huge deal but it was much more seamless before when it automatically put me in that mode when I clipped. And to top it off, when I finish editing a clip, it starts playing back the podcast from the beginning of the clip instead of the end. Will keep using this app because it remains super useful. And really wish they’d go back to old user flow! ### 5/5 — The only Podcast app I use *2021-01-22, version 1.0.52* The ability to save clips from podcasts changes the way I listen to them. I have a more attentive ear, and I do not always need a notebook with me to jot down an insight from someone. Airr allows you to save an entire library of audio clips, it’s an amazing app. ### 5/5 — There are podcast apps, and there is Airr. *2021-01-20, version 1.0.52* I listen to a lot of podcasts, and my main gripe prior to using Airr has been not being able to cohesively take notes or save clips to refer back to. Airr’s solution is perfect in my view. Clipping is the feature I didn't know I needed until airr introduced it. There are some annoying bugs still and I hope they start charging or something so they can put more time into development ### 5/5 — The Airr quote functionality takes podcast listening to the next level *2020-12-20, version 1.0.49* I have used Airr daily for the past 4 months. I can confidently say that it is my favorite app of 2020! Airr has changed my workflow for the better (like 1000x better). The team has been super helpful and responsive to my feedback, and the product gets better and better with each update. Airr quotes and the transcriptions are the best way to capture the insights from podcasts, bar none. I like the feed of Airr quotes from other users in the app, too. I’ve discovered some cool new shows this way. Excited for the future of this product (apple watch app?) ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Extremely buggy *2022-08-04, version 2.0.49* This app could be great, but is ruined by bugs. Most recently, the app reset all my content and I lost years of saved airquotes. Support hasn’t responded. Don't waste your time with this app now that there are others offering the same features. Besides losing all my data, the app frequently freezes or crashes so you can only listen to podcasts when the app decides to work. It’s extremely frustrating. ### 1/5 — Extremely Buggy *2022-03-09, version 2.0.48* I was really excited to be able to take quotes from podcasts and upon trying the app I was very happy with it. That was until I started using it regularly. About once a day the app just completely loses my place in a podcast. Sometimes it happens when taking an Airrquote (and it just skips randomly to another episode and sets the one I’m listening to back to the beginning). Sometimes it happens when I get a phone call and the episode skips back several minutes when the phone call is over. And other times it just loses my place entirely when I leave it overnight. The skip forward 30 seconds is also very buggy, only skipping forward maybe half the time and then usually jumping back a few seconds at random times. ### 1/5 — Phone number? *2021-09-20, version 2.0.19* I’m immediately turned off that I am prompted for my phone number in order to sign in without any information as to how it will be used. I take great care to protect my privacy and avoid being tracked between apps, and requiring a phone number is a way to guarantee all of my activity across apps platforms can be tracked and compiled. Even the privacy policy does not provide clear guidance as to the purpose of the phone number collection, which leads me to believe it is used for shady purposes. It is also not acknowledged in the App Store listing for what data is collected. ### 1/5 — Would be amazing if they didn’t override the triple-tap function of AirPods *2021-09-02, version 2.0.16* I religiously use the triple-click feature of my AirPods to repeat the last 15-30 seconds of any audiobook or podcast I happen to be listening to on all other apps. Unfortunately, Airr has overridden this basic function with their “Airrquotes” feature. This is an extremely frustrating and, in my opinion, stupid design decision. I would love to use Airrquotes, but the number of times I want the last 15 seconds of a podcast repeated will be orders of magnitude higher that the times I want to record an Airrquote. It’s a complete dealbreaker for me, so I had to uninstall and go back to the overcast app. ### 1/5 — Impossible to use so far *2021-02-27, version 1.0.59* The concept of Airr is amazing and I am looking forward to the day when I will want to give 6 or 7 stars but right now, I just want it to do the basics of playing a podcast. If you use the skip forward or skip back, Airr gets confused quickly and if you use it at the end of a podcast to skip the list of executive producers to interns Airr cannot figure out you have listened to this episode and will continue to play it over and over and over again. This would of course be fixed if there was a way to tell Airr I’m done with this podcast and mark it as played but you can’t do that either. It does not remove or clearly make those that have been played. It does not show which of the podcasts you are listening to at this moment. The list goes on. These things are the basics of what a podcast player should do. You can’t put a jet engine on a car and expect it to fly. It just goes really fast when it crashes. We’re also working as fast as we can to add new features—many of the ones you mentioned are coming in upcoming releases. ### 1/5 — Buggy, needs a lot of help *2020-09-27, version 1.0.42* Not sure where all the 5-star reviews are coming from. The app has a great idea, but all of the bugs and poor design make it unusable. I get the minimum viable product idea, but this app was released way too soon. It doesn’t need polish. It needs serious work. Responses from the team behind it were canned and reflected a lack of concern for the customer. I hope it gets better. I’ll update my review if it does, but this product should not have been shipped. ### 2/5 — Great concept, but unreliable *2022-10-18, version 2.0.49* Live the idea and was excited to use but the app freezes and/or won’t play podcasts so it takes away the whole post of using it. I do enjoy that you can program a shortcut that “takes an Airr quote” just by using Siri. I also like the community section where you can see outher quotes people have bookmarked so if y’all get the bugs fixed it would easily be a 10. ### 2/5 — Rough around the edges, but strong potential *2020-12-10, version 1.0.49* This app has a very clean, attractive interface, which allows the user to listen to podcasts and have them transcribed. The listening experience is great, but the transcription is a little touch and go, with transcriptions sometimes abruptly ending in the middle of an episode. Another complaint is that not all podcasts can be subscribed in the app, even with the URL, though I’m confident that this issue will be resolved soon. ### 2/5 — So frustrating *2020-12-01, version 1.0.48* I never write reviews for apps but I felt I needed to for this one. It is more of a pain than anything else. I can’t take more than 1 quote without the app freezing and I have to swipe out and try again. It is terrible. Overall a terrible experience. You might as well go onto a functioning app like Apple podcasts, because this app doesn’t work. It is not functional and should be worked on thoroughly before being released again. So annoying. ### 3/5 — Good idea but buggy *2022-11-12, version 2.0.49* Too buggy to depend on and often doesn’t have a transcript for the show, in which case it’s a huge pain to highlight the desired text. Podcasts are so popular because it’s content for “found time” (driving, gym, etc). The hardest thing about using podcasts for learning is to try to remember everything to look up or study after your primary activity is over. This solves that. ### 5/5 — Super frustrating crashes! (Update: they’re working on it) *2022-01-05, version 2.0.45* I want to love this app. But when I’m listening to a podcast and hit the quote button, it frequently stops the episode I’m listening to and randomly switches to a different one. It’s so annoying I could throw my phone out the window. I keep waiting for an update to fix this. Love the idea and it was working great until the podcasts just stop out of the blue. It happens more often than not now. And it also doesn’t always save my spot so I can continue listening. Thank you. ### 5/5 — Best app ever: automating the ingestion of knowledge. *2021-07-31, version 2.0.13* This has been a game changer for my consumption of knowledge. I use it with Readwise and Roam to automatically save my Airquotes to pages. The way it automatically creates pages has been such a big time saver. Keep up the amazing work and find a way to let us pay you! Minor nit: updating an AirQuote note after it has been made public or shared privately has intermittent issues saving new edits. ### 5/5 — Switched from Overcast *2021-05-27, version 2.0.1* I mainly use podcasts as a means of learning new things and keeping on top of developments in my industry. The central feature of Airr for me is the ability to highlight segments of an episode and have it automatically transcribed and extracted to Readwise. It is a game changer. The rest of the app still needs a bit of polish before it is fully comparable to the major podcast apps but the gap isn’t too large to overcome. ### 5/5 — Best Podcasts App *2021-05-19, version 2.0.0* This is hands down the best Podcasts app around. I really like the interface and options available but the ability to clip sections you like for future reference is the most unique and useful feature. On top of that you can import your highlights into Readwise for ready reference. If you're willing to give this app a try I promise you won't want to use any other podcast app out there! ### 5/5 — Holy grail for research collection *2021-04-29, version 1.0.62* This app solves the two biggest problems with research via podcast: timestamps and transcription. The quote feature lets u timestamp/ bookmark memorable segments that you can easily reference in hindsight. The transcription takes it one step further allowing you to search text rather than audio. This media mix is critical because so much is said in a podcast but reading the bits you like adds a second dimension. Great app, well done. Look forward to seeing what comes next 👏 ### 5/5 — Great app *2021-04-05, version 1.0.62* First and foremost, this app is amazing. I don’t really listen to a lot of podcasts because I like to have highlights that I can always refer back too. This app makes that so easy to do. I do wish I had unlimited caption space. That way, it’d be easier to keep my comments/thoughts with the quotes or parts of the episodes that triggered them. Either way, this app is great. ### 5/5 — I loved this app *2021-03-13, version 1.0.62* Upgraded to five from below a couple weeks ago: I had some issues and emailed them. David was quick to reply and problem solved with me. Followed up the next day with some other advice and pushed some updates. Voila! Problem solved. I’m into this app hook, like and sinker. ————————————————— Giving 3 for the idea and deducting 2 for the issues. I do badly need this to work. And then started having issues. I need to write the developers on a platform other than Twitter. It worked okay then a few weeks ago I upgraded to iPhone 12 Pro and now my app crashes on start 9 out of 10 times or when I get in asks me to log in every time to see my play list, then after logging in> crash. It’s driving me nuts. I had just finished my complete migration from pocketcasts the week before too. ### 5/5 — Airr is on the short list of most used apps *2021-01-23, version 1.0.52* If this was just another me-too podcasting app, I wouldn’t waste my time reviewing it. If you use podcasts to learn and grow, this is the tool for you.
