### 4/5 — Helpful but lacks older devices

*2024-11-28, version 4.5.0*

Really helpful to keep an eye on storage space requirements. Just sad that older devices like Ki Pro, Ki Pro mini and Ki Pro Quad are absent from the device selection.

### 4/5 — Does the job

*2019-08-30, version 3.0.1*

My feedback for the devs: it has some flaws. The resolutions dropdown MUST describe actual dimensions and not just the name “4K FULL”. Hard to compare results from different sources when terminology changes and I still can’t work out what size “4K FULL” is supposed to be. Clarity is a key step on the way to accuracy.

An on/off switch for audio would be more helpful than manually selecting “0 ch” to show the result without audio included. Some defaults are strange: first time using the app and it chose 14.98 FPS and 8-bit 32 kHz audio as the default, there are more common default combinations which are applicable to more people (like 23.98 FPS and 24-bit 48 kHz audio).

Compliments: being able to enter a specific TC duration is a fantastic and simple idea, which other calculators haven’t considered. Good job.

### 4/5 — Fixed

*2017-04-20, version 3.0.1*

Thank you for fixing it

### 4/5 — Great datacalc app!!!

*2016-06-07, version 2.3*

I really love this app. For anyone in the tech side of the content ecosystem, this is an ideal app in figuring out file size and runtime when dealing with various codecs, formats, file size selections, etc.

If only it had a bitrate option to calculate also, that would make it a 5-star!!!

### 3/5 — Great but inaccurate

*2013-12-18, version 2.0.1*

This is a great application, well thought out and usable - BUT some of the information is incorrect, by a substantial margin, so if it is critical, cross check with other sources.

### 4/5 — Great but a flaw...

*2013-09-12, version 2.0*

Doesn't show proper DNxHD bitrates for all framerates.

### 4/5 — Very useful app, needs more options

*2012-06-28, version 1.2*

App works well but I agree with the other comments about including more codecs - particularly all the flavours of Avid DNxHD (eg 185X) or even better being to create user presets.

### 3/5 — Good but could have more formats.

*2012-01-06, version 1.2*

I'm trying to work out data rates for a QuickTime I'm making so I found this app after buying another. It is good, but as I found with the other app its more for avid hd codecs, and all I have for ad is dv25. So it's not completely useful for finding out h264 data file sizes. If AJA could just add a custom field to add your known data rate it would be perfect.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2011-06-23, version 1.2*

the most useful app on the iphone if you work in the video industry

### 5/5 — Love It!

*2011-05-18, version 1.2*

You can't go wrong with free but I love it, I use a few times a week! I love that I can email myself or others the results. I wish I could select other settings like iPod/ h.264 but it is great.

### 4/5 — Not too shabby.

*2011-01-28, version 1.2*

I like the ability to email the summary.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2011-01-16, version 1.2*

Fantastic little tool to have to hand
Well done AJA

### 5/5 — Exactly as promised

*2010-07-28, version 0*

People this app Is exactly as promised. It is specifically for the ki pro. The data rates for other cameras and data rates for other systems should have their own app half this nice!! Great app for shooters who use KiPro on set!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashes with iOS 17.

*2023-10-14, version 4.5.0*

This was a handy app for checking run time but crashes now. Was inputting a 240 gig drive and then went to select other functions and it instantly crashes. Deleted and reinstalled but no happiness. Sad, was helpful while it worked.

### 1/5 — ios 17 crashes

*2023-10-11, version 4.5.0*

App crashes as soon as I touch a setting. Please fix.

### 1/5 — App Needs to be Updated

*2023-09-19, version 4.5.0*

Keeps crashing every time I try to use any button

### 1/5 — 누르면 꺼짐

*2023-09-19, version 4.5.0*

### 1/5 — V3 Ruins a Once-Useful App

*2017-04-07, version 3.0.0*

Updated to v3, and was disappointed to find what feels like a v1 beta. UI is stripped to nothing, number fields pull up the full keyboard, slow to launch, typos in the codec selections, and still no Canon XF-AVC listings. I use the app literally every day and it's supposed to be quick and easy--now I want to find another solution.

### 1/5 — Very hard to use.

*2009-12-18, version 0*

Buttons are too small and the interface is far from intuitive.

### 2/5 — Out of date

*2012-04-15, version 1.2*

This could be a great app if it was updated with the latest codecs. No Arri-Raw, no Red R3D at different compression ratios. No canon C300. Come on!

### 2/5 — Great app, well done

*2010-03-24, version 0*

Finally something to replace my data rates spreadsheet! Thanks a lot

### 2/5 — Does not install on iPod touch 1G

*2009-12-14, version 0*

2 stars because I use this app on the mac but this do not install on the iPod Touch 1G.

### 3/5 — Great app, but...

*2015-01-31, version 2.1*

Works well but I think the Sony raw 16 bit estimates are off. Also would love to see a bits per second field since manufactures insist on using bits when describing codecs instead of bytes.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great tool

*2023-09-07, version 4.5.0*

Works well.

### 5/5 — HDV bit rate wrong

*2021-11-05, version 4.5.0*

I use this app a lot. I just noticed today that the HDV bit rate is set at 1.5 Mbps. I use DV25 instead, but that error should probably be fixed.

### 5/5 — Really useful for digital preservation usage

*2019-11-22, version 3.0.1*

I’ve been using this app on and off for a few years now, calculating file sizes for long term preservation storage. It’s a very useful timesaver.

In the last couple of years a large number of archives have moved preservation files to long term storage on the FFV1 codec (version 3) and it would be amazing if you could add support for this - it would be a real asset for archivists around the world.

### 5/5 — Ray Caniffi

*2019-11-14, version 3.0.1*

Ray Caniffi

### 5/5 — All-time favorite

*2018-02-21, version 3.0.1*

I have been using this app probably since “version 1.0” (8 years ago?) It has been my go-to for calculating data rates from the days of SD DVD authoring, through HD 1080p field acquisition, and still going strong as I shoot 4K on my a7s II with VideoDevices outboard ProRes recorder. That’s gotta be some kind of record for longest-running app..? Plus it’s rock-solid and intuitively laid out. A very belated “thank you!!” to the good folks at AJA.

### 5/5 — 방송영상 관련 앱중 최고의 앱

*2016-02-17, version 2.3*

방송영상 관련 앱중 최고의 앱
앱을 통해 촬영 본 또는 인코딩하는 영상 데이터양 산출이 용이해졌다

### 5/5 — Great data calculator

*2014-11-06, version 2.1*

Great app, fast and easy to use.

### 5/5 — Great Tool

*2014-10-28, version 2.1*

With the availability of digital cinema cameras, a tool like this is indispensable. It works as advertised and presents a simple yet elegant graphic user interface. My only wish is that in they offer Compressed CinemaDNG (raw) for the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC) as one of the selectable codecs. The BMPCC is rapidly becoming a go to camera for indie filmmakers and it has a vibrant community pushing quality work on it. Great app!

### 5/5 — Great new look

*2013-09-17, version 2.0.1*

Very useful tool
The latest version has a much improved
User interface
Suggestion: would like the storage space to always be in Bytes regardless
Of data rate units

### 5/5 — Very happy

*2012-06-21*

I searched for 'video space calculator' and this app didn't come up. Unfortunately I purchased two apps before of which listed DVCProHD but then didn't support 50fps. This app does and it's FREE!
AJA if you could widen the search terms that lead to this page I'm sure you'll get more installs.
Five stars for AJA. I'm very happy and recommend this app.
