Just. Why? *2025-08-13, version 3.141.5* Of course GCI is requiring an app to do literally anything with the router/modem that they make you get to use their service. Unsurprisingly, it’s not intuitive and is just as lousy and unreliable as their internet service. ### 1/5 — Trash *2025-04-23, version 3.141.5* Woman at GCI didn’t even set my account up right, gave me a HomePass device that was already claimed and more and more problems. Why not have the app be optional and still be able to change settings on the web? Probably using some lazy AI with bugs in it to create “optimization” which really creates ping issues and jitter, instability, and mostly just data collection I’m assuming. I just want to change the WiFi password but I can’t in the web interface anymore because it forces you to the app which errors out before you can even get past the login screen. Obscene to pay $200 a month for this. ### 1/5 — Terrible company *2024-11-17* Terrible and inconsistent services, crappy customer support, exorbitantly high pricing, and not any sort of acknowledgment of their own deficiencies because they have a monopoly on coverage in the area. this is one of the worst big companies in Alaska if not the worst. ### 1/5 — Clear blue skies but no service *2024-11-01, version 3.141.5* Have an outage for no reason. This app removed many of the options we had when using the web interface and made everything less intuitive. For example, how do you turn off WiFi? I don’t want it because I’m using my own router and this one is just interfering with my signal. Or, how do you change channels for WiFi? Those are all standard, basic features of any router. Who decided that customers shouldn’t be able to access those settings? I’m gonna have to start using my own equipment cause this app is REALLY bad. ### 1/5 — terrible app *2024-01-31* Not only did GCI force me to use their app that rarely functions, I had to readd all of my port configurations that I had previously made only for them to still not work. Ive done everything that I had done previously when I originally added them however when i go back to the app after applying the changes theyre all gone in a matter of seconds. Then when I try going to the router homebox to do what I know works, it tells me that I can use this awful app to change all of my settings. Now this wouldnt be a problem if the app actually functioned as intended, but it NEVER does. Then when I try to opt out of this god awful app service, I was put on hold for three hours and hung up on. ### 1/5 — I want my web portal back *2023-12-24* I can’t forward port ranges anymore. Why? Fix this ### 1/5 — Awful app *2023-12-08, version 3.101.6* This app is the worst app I’ve ever used. Supposed to assist you with your in home internet, but does everything except that. It’ll show you how much data your devices have used in the past month (somewhat accurately) but won’t run a speed test ever. Just continuously says “calculating” before it gives up entirely. Don’t even try to enter the menu/profile. On an iPhone, it’ll crash the app as soon as you touch that button. So if you’re okay with never being able to do anything you need to do on your in home internet app, by all means download this app… if not, just go on the website or call GCI (if they even answer) b/c this app won’t do anything for you but make you more frustrated. ### 1/5 — Just horrible *2023-11-28, version 3.101.6* The web interface of other modems/routers is easier than trying to decipher this app. It’s slow, it crashes, the layout is not intuitive and the options are limited. GCI forces you to use the app to make advanced changes. Garbage. ### 1/5 — App constantly crashing *2023-11-28, version 3.101.6* Every single time I have to switch between accounts, the app crashes. The only solution I have come up with is to delete the app, re-download, and everything works fine until I have to switch back over to my other account. I’ll adjust my review once this is fixed, but the fact that there’s no app support on GCI’s website is frustrating as well. (or if it’s there, it’s hard to find) ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Waste of an app *2026-08-07, version 25.180.1* to their new single port modem and since i have my own better routers this app wont work because it is “NOT A GCI ROUTER” and now this app will not work and it’s nothing more than a money game to buy their router so this app will work. I give GCI a negative 100 ### 1/5 — Can’t close tips *2026-08-03, version 25.180.1* Every time I open the app (even after uninstall and reinstall) the screen shows that my network is still setting up and it shows me the tips carousel. I’m unable to close the tips carousel to name my network which is what I’d like to be able to do. ### 1/5 — Waiting for the day GCI gets competent *2026-06-17, version 25.180.1* Fastest speeds in AK but your internet goes out 5-6 times a day, worse than Xfinity and more expensive too, awful company that over charges with extra fees and overages but can’t keep its service online for more than 1-2 hours straight in 1 day, I pray for the day Alaska gets a decent provider that has a handle on their service ### 1/5 — Account creation problems *2026-05-23, version 25.180.1* The app won’t send me the registration email so I can create an account. My regular gci account login doesn’t work. Trying to change settings on my router so it fully functions but the router admin portal tells me to download the app, and the app doesn’t work. Extremely frustrating. GCI support is also zero help with this and refused to send someone out. ### 1/5 — New update- garbage *2026-04-23, version 25.180.1* It not user friendly, it’s confusing nothing is worded to where it makes sense to turn off internet on selected devices. Now you have to make groups? But it won’t even keep the internet off when I scheduled it. As a mom that works with easy and direct, this app will piss you off before bed time. I miss the old app. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2026-03-03, version 3.141.5* What the title says. Won’t allow me to logon. Went through the process of finding my user ID. Reset password. Just spits errors back at me when I log in using the correct things. Cool login screen simulator I guess. ### 1/5 — Not functional *2026-02-03, version 3.141.5* You can’t even get into the app, as is ALWAYS the case, I find, when it comes to GCI. I’ve not once been able to do anything online or in the old app and the new app is just more of the same. A bunch of flashy stuff with no function. Can't. GCI is staffed by a bunch of DEIs who have no business working in tech. The browser based router admin panel is preferred and has a lot more functionality, but the critical stuff like device list and DNS mgmt has been deferred to the app, which doesn't even provide useful information and is difficult to navigate. ### 1/5 — Not great *2025-09-10, version 3.141.5* Pretty terrible app interface. Not intuitive, no search feature, but biggest issue is can’t find usage info, specifically how much we have left for the month. Tech support can’t help me because I don’t know our “verbal pin” even though my question is not related to us personally. My question is simply “where on the app does it show usage?” MyGCI website doesn’t show our usage any more like it used to - it now says “unavailable.” All around pretty bad. Oh and our monthly bill rate is increasing too. ## Most praised reviews (3 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Love it *2023-05-13, version 3.101.6* Really high quality mesh Wi-Fi for no extra charge and I don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to buy the equipment. What’s not to like? ### 4/5 — Great for monitoring, one issue *2024-07-12, version 3.127.1* Love it for monitoring my friends and family and how much data we use. Can easily turn off devices if I accidentally left them on (smart bulbs, tvs ). However, I have enabled the setting to get notified when certain people arrive and leave the WiFi, but it does not seem to work. ### 3/5 — Something’s good, lacking in others *2025-08-31, version 3.141.5* This app has been helpful with managing schedules for allowing our kids to get on the internet at certain times. It seems buggy though snd sometimes just freezes up and won’t work. What we really wish it could do was allow access for a period of time and then shut off. For example, turn on for one hour and then shut off. Without having to setup an entire new schedule. This would be really helpful for parents who want to reward their kids with screen time.
