## What is Akela+?

Akela+ is the toolkit for Cub Scout pack leaders — plan your meetings, run your calendar, organize campouts, and keep your pack's families in the loop, all from your phone.

Built by a Cubmaster for the way a pack actually runs: most features work without an account, your data lives on your device, and there are no ads and no subscription.

PLAN MEETINGS IN MINUTES
• Build a meeting from blocks — gathering, ceremony, activity, announcements — with timing that adds up as you go
• Start from a template, or browse full meeting plans shared by leaders everywhere
• Libraries of ceremony scripts, activities and event runbooks, rated by the leaders who used them
• Track awards to hand out, and check them off as you go

RUN THE MEETING FROM YOUR PHONE
• A live view walks you block by block, with what's next always in sight
• The screen stays awake; timing cues keep the night on track
• Share the agenda ahead of time, or a summary afterward — including a per-presenter "what I'm doing tonight" view

YOUR PACK'S YEAR, ORGANIZED
• A pack calendar built for scouting: den meetings, pack nights, campouts, derbies
• Import your unit's calendar from Scoutbook Plus, Google Calendar, or any calendar app — re-import any time to stay in sync
• Campout planning with gear checklists, tour plans and a printable packet
• Communication drafts that fill in your pack's details automatically, ready to send

BRING YOUR FAMILIES IN — NEW IN 2.0
• Invite families to your pack with a code or link; they get a simpler parent view
• Publish a meeting and parents see the plan for the evening — never your agendas, notes or award lists
• Volunteer sign-up sheets on any event, with capped spots: "Snacks, 2 needed" and two people can't both grab the last one
• RSVPs on pack events, so you know your headcount before the night
• Pack Chat for announcements, groups and direct messages — parents can reach a leader, and the roster is never a way to cold-message other families

MADE FOR SCOUTING SAFETY
• Guide to Safe Scouting quick reference built in
• Scout roster stores a first name and one initial — no birthdays, no photos, and scouts never have accounts
• Adults confirm they're 18+ before any feature that reaches other adults

Akela+ is an independent app made by a volunteer pack leader. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Scouting America.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.5.0 — 2026-08-24

Invite families in a couple of taps — with links that don't expire.

PACK INVITES
• Invite links no longer expire. Codes were quietly given a 30-day deadline, so a link shared at the start of the year had usually stopped working by the time families got round to tapping it — and the family saw "invite code expired" rather than anything they could act on. Existing codes have had their deadline removed, so a link already sitting in your pack's group text is live again. Issuing a new code from "New code" still invalidates the old one, which is how you revoke a link that has gone somewhere it shouldn't.
• Invite your scouts' families straight from the roster. After you add scouts, leaving the Scouts screen offers to share your pack link with those families, so they can see the calendar, meeting plans and sign-ups without you forwarding anything again. Families join read-only — you stay in control of what the pack plans, and can promote a co-leader from Members at any time.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
• Fixed: signing in with Google on iPhone failed with "Couldn't sign in" every time, no matter how many tries — the app and Google disagreed over a security check on the sign-in token. Sign in with Apple was unaffected.

### 2.3.1 — 2026-08-19

Bring your roster over from Scoutbook.

SCOUT ROSTER IMPORT
• Import your scout roster from a Scoutbook Plus roster report (Scouts → Import from Scoutbook): pick the exported file, review who would be added or corrected, and confirm.
• Privacy-first by design: the app keeps only a first name, one initial, den and rank — surnames, birthdates, IDs and contact details are ignored and never leave your device.
• Your Scoutbook dens come along too: "Webelos 9" and "Bear 13" arrive as their own dens, numbers intact. Re-importing after Scoutbook changes only shows what's new.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
• Fixed: choosing Google at sign-in could still occasionally fail with "Couldn't sign in" the moment you picked it. The app now retries automatically, so the sign-in window simply opens a beat later.
• The app's tagline now says who it's for: "For pack leaders & families".

### 2.1.3 — 2026-08-11

Akela+ 2.0 opens the app up to your pack's families.

FAMILIES CAN JOIN
• A simpler parent view: the meetings your leaders publish, what's coming up, the pack calendar, RSVPs and Pack Chat.
• Leaders keep the full toolkit. Your agendas, block notes and award lists are never visible to families.
• Choose leader or parent when you start, and switch any time in Settings.

VOLUNTEER SIGN-UPS
• Add slots to any shared event — "Snacks, 2 needed", "Check-in table" — and families claim them right on the event, with an optional note. Spots are capped, so two people can't both take the last one, and you can share the filled sheet as text for a pack email.

PACK CHAT
• Chat moved to the tab bar for everyone, and families can use it. Start a group with just the people you pick, send an announcement, or let a parent message you directly.

WHO CAN DO WHAT
• Set each member to Pack leader or Parent from the Members screen. New members now join as parents, so nobody ends up with leader access by accident.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
• Your pack directory listing now follows Pack Info automatically — one place to keep it right.
• Syncing is lighter and faster, and joining a pack finally brings everything already shared with it.
• Fixed: an interrupted first launch could leave the app unable to open. Edits to agenda blocks, award lists and templates now reach your other devices, including edits made offline.

### 1.27.0 — 2026-08-02

• Name your pack’s dens yourself — “Den 3,” “Frog Patrol” — and have two dens of the same rank, each with its own chat
• Hold more than one role: Cubmaster and Den Leader both show on the roster
• One name, set from anywhere — it’s the one your pack sees
• Members now has its own screen under More → Pack, next to Scouts and Dens
• The More tab leads with your pack, and Pack Profile is now Pack Info
• Fixes: guardian checkboxes stick on the first tap; Bobcat is no longer offered as a rank in progress

### 1.23.1 — 2026-07-29

It's been a while since the last App Store update, so this one brings several months of work at once.

SHARING YOUR PACK
• Pack Chat for leaders — announcements, group conversations and direct messages, and you can scope a conversation to a single den
• Put real names to your pack, so chat shows "Jane Smith · Den Leader" instead of a handle
• Dens — pick yours, see everyone else's
• Find your pack in a searchable directory and ask to join, with no invite code
• Hand your pack to someone else, or remove a member
• Report or remove a chat message

YOUR PACK'S DETAILS
• A scout roster — first name, last initial, den and the rank they're working on, with parent and guardian links. A guardian sees only their own children. No birthdays, no addresses, no photos, and scouts never have accounts.
• Council, district, city and state now live in the pack profile, and fill in your communication templates automatically
• RSVP to pack events
• Meetings and calendar events can each have their own location

FIXES
• Your pack profile restores itself on a new phone instead of opening blank
• Imported calendar events keep their own description instead of a reminder's text
• The share sheet opens next to the button you tapped on iPad
• Pack Chat follows the conversation properly, and deleting a message actually deletes it
• Anyone joining your pack now sees its existing conversations
• Easier taps and better screen-reader support throughout
