### 5/5 — Amazing publication and so easy to use

*2020-12-22*

Not only is it easy to navigate each issue, but you have access to older issues as well. Very seldom have problems with delivery. Do remember user name and password, because you will occasionally have to renew your credentials. Best App on my iPad!

### 5/5 — PLEASE FIX!!

*2019-01-28, version 2.9.22*

I love this app—I’ve used it to read the ABJ for several years now. I especially like that it looks just like the newspaper. HOWEVER, in the past few weeks the breaking news feed button has dimmed, so that option is no longer available on my app! I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling the app. PLEASE HELP!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Review of sports section .

*2021-09-22*

I don’t want to read the results of the Friday night high school football games in my Sunday morning paper ! I don’t care about your change of dead line ,that was your choice not mine . I don’t enjoy searching the internet on Saturday morning trying to find the scores that should be in my morning paper . I thought I was subscribing to a “ Newspaper “ not a history paper . You asked for my opinion, there you have it .

### 1/5 — Lack of support is beyond frustrating

*2020-10-27, version 2.9.22*

Pay the bill monthly. No problem. Ask for help because the app quits every time you click on an article or even worse while trying to read the comics. Big problem.
Worse yet - click on the app support on the right of this screen and watch what happens. NOTHING. OOPS. SOMETHING WENT WRONG because they don’t support their own app. Send the paper an email asking for help through their website. What happens? NOTHING. Not even the courtesy of a reply.
Yes, I deleted and reinstalled numerous times. Yes, I have upgrade my i OS. Yes, I have plenty of space so this is all on them.

### 2/5 — Parade magazine and Monday edition

*2022-11-21, version 36.13*

Good morning,

I’ve read the paper for years every morning. It was always a way to relax. I looked forward to turning the pages and cutting out recipes or interesting articles. I now have to wonder if I hit the wrong button, or have trouble seeing and being able to read the ENTIRE page at once.
For those of us with aging eyes, reading the paper on line is difficult . In fact, it’s frustrating. On top of that, the price increase is getting to be so expensive, that a decision has to be made. Do we want to pay for something we no longer enjoy.
Another issue, is that I wonder if putting things in alphabetical order is a thing of the past. I even know that a press of a button can solve that.
It’s sad to see how lax the world is becoming and a simple thing like reading the newspaper is no longer enjoyable. What’s even sadder, is this e mail will not change anything. I look at it as I was given the opportunity to answer your question, and NO I’m not satisfied in the way the newspaper is going.
I also hope, that no one lost their job, including delivery people, putting Monday’s edition on line.
Thank you for your time,
A Stevenor

### 2/5 — Why I like the digital version of the newspaper

*2022-05-20*

The home delivery paper carrier is so unreliable that I often don’t get the paper on a daily basis. The digital version allows me to get the news when the newspaper carrier is so irratic.
I have been a regular subscriber for over 50 years. Also my kids carried the paper when they had to walk the routes.
Delivery of the paper is not hard work. Just get some reliable workers!

### 2/5 — Beacon app.

*2020-12-27, version 3.2.51*

When it works it is wonderful, but from time to time there are significant issues like clicking on a story & the app. shutting down . My husband has also been unable to login for more than a week. Every time he tries to put his info in it says it is unrecognized. When he called the Beacon , he was told there were problems & to go in through the browser off the website which he did. The app. has definite problems & needs to be upgraded.

### 2/5 — Please fix this app!

*2020-12-23, version 3.2.51*

I love the Akron Beacon Journal and reading it digitally is wonderful... when it works. All too often it won't open the digital edition, there is no "contact us" to report or resolve problems, there seem to be a too many bugs that causes the app to spontaneously close. I was once told by someone at customer service (yes, I used a phone and called someone) to delete the app and reload it. So I did. Then I tried to log on. Nope, nothing I did allowed me to sign in. Nothing. Tried half a dozen times before giving up and venting my frustration by writing this review. Please ABJ, resolve some of these bugs. I am a long time subscriber and want my digital edition to pop up on demand, I don't want to jump through a dozen hoops or retry multiple times to read the news. Nuance this app and make it work properly all the time, for all of us.

### 3/5 — Review of ABJ Daily Newspaper App

*2022-07-09, version 36.13*

The Akron Beacon Journal App is easy to use once you learn how to use it. I appreciate being able to look at an entire page, including the ads, and then honing in on one article to read. I also appreciate being able to look up different editions or days of the week online. The search function to find current and previous articles is still weak.

My husband and I read the paper together on our phones and computers in the morning, and discuss the news. We both miss having a physical paper - which we found easier to peruse and share in person.

Unfortunately, the Beacon’s delivery problems with a short carrier staff meant we rarely received our daily paper. We do miss the physical paper.

### 3/5 — Hopefully Fixed

*2020-12-26, version 3.2.51*

I have had the Beacon Journal app for quite some time. Everything has always worked very well until about four months ago, the version seem to crash regularly. It took quite some time it seems to fix, which I think it is since the last update just very recently. If it truly is fixed, I will be 100% happy again with the app.

### 4/5 — Mostly good

*2021-02-19, version 3.2.51*

When the app works correctly, it is very easy to use and read the paper easily. Occasionally when trying to read an article by clicking on it to make the print larger, the app will crash. Other than that, it’s very easy to use

### 5/5 — Adjusting to e-edition

*2023-01-01, version 36.13*

After a couple weeks, I have begun to look forward to reading my morning paper on my iPad. I enjoy the clarity of print, being able to enlarge certain articles for easier viewing. I also appreciate having access to the ABJ while on vacation or at our remote lake house. Only downside is the sudoku, crossword and wonder word have changed authors. Miss doing those daily challenges

## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — E-version or Paper

*2022-11-08*

I didn’t think I would like reading the Akron Beacon Journal online. It is easier, it’s with me everywhere I go, and no dirty hands! I still like reading the hard copy paper sometimes on weekends, but it’s nice to have options reading it.

### 5/5 — I love reading ABJ

*2022-11-01, version 36.13*

App is easily accessed and works smoothly. I still like reading a hard copy newspaper as the name implies: it is NEWS on PAPER! But I also understand the costs of printing and delivering. But there is a nostalgia about the printed word on paper, much the same as a book. BTW, I never read a book electronically!

### 5/5 — ABJ

*2022-10-13*

This is so easy to manage and read online. I am not missing having a missed delivery or loose paper around the house collecting. I can easily look back at previous issues too. It is on all my devices for use.

### 5/5 — Local news reporting is the backbone to a healthy city

*2022-10-08, version 36.13*

Reading the paper front to back informs and challenges me to think for myself. Unbiased journalism is deeply important to local and regional areas. What is happening locally can reflect national news but also show a kinder side, when people are doing good things for their neighbors.

### 5/5 — Great location news for Northeast OHIO

*2021-11-08*

The Akron Beacon Journal delivers the best version of news from around the Northeast Ohio region with expertise and experience and excellent balance with stories you wi t see from any other source. Definitely the best newspaper to depend on for NEWS!

### 5/5 — Love the format!

*2021-08-17, version 3.3.13*

I really enjoy the fact that this app shows you the actual newspaper as published on paper. It provides the same experience and satisfaction of reading a physical paper, including ads and classifieds. I wish all other newspapers and magazines provided the same digital format. Plus you get access to older editions in case you miss something.

### 5/5 — Love online

*2021-06-17*

Great to have the paper available by 4 am most mornings. Format has consistently improved. Able to keep up with local news even when I’m away from home.

### 5/5 — Read the news

*2021-02-24, version 3.2.51*

I thank the Beacon for forging ahead in the written news media. We need their information, expertise and opinions. The information during local and state issues is important as voters process what is happening and what should be done in Ohio. I find their ability to publish paper news as well as virtual copy serves all people in our area.

### 5/5 — More than just an internet news site

*2021-01-30, version 3.2.51*

The Akron Beacon Journal’s app (I have it on my iPhone and iPad) is literally a replica of the physical newspaper. You see full images of every pager, including ads, and touch an article to drill down to read it in a separate window. Swipe or click an arrow to move from page to page or touch the fast forward icon to move another sections.

This app is very different from a typical news website with animated ads popping up all over the place. The experience is as close as possible to reading an actual newspaper. The only thing I miss is having material to pack dishes and use as kindling in the fireplace.
