### 2/5 — Drag and drop doesn’t work like it should

*2026-04-04, version 4.0.307*

Makes it super hard to do homework on my iPad between classes/work. PLEASE fix.

### 2/5 — IOS bug

*2026-02-09, version 4.0.229*

drag and drop malfunctions 70% of the time. It needs fixing.

### 2/5 — App crashes

*2025-10-06, version 4.0.11*

The app was fine at first, but now randomly crashes on certain problems. Force quitting and restarting doesn’t work, deleting and redownloading doesn’t work, you’re permanently locked out of questions which can affect your grade.

### 4/5 — Usually good but can’t log in anymore??

*2025-08-22, version 3.177.246*

It says error every time I try to put in my email but other than this it used to be really good

### 4/5 — Great app, just missing simple features

*2024-04-09*

I’ve used this app for the entire year and it has served me well for the most part. The one thing that really irks me though, is the fact that there isn’t an in-app notification system. I can’t count how many times I’ve completely forgotten about assignments that were due simply because all the notifications went to my email instead of my phone directly. I feel like this is an aspect of the app can be easily corrected, and I hope it does in the near future.

### 1/5 — 0 must have a course code

*2024-01-14, version 3.127.27*

I’ll never understand why you MUST have a course code to even use the app or program. Waste of time but it seems pretty awesome if you can actually use it.

### 2/5 — Add me on Snap

*2023-09-13, version 3.110.2*

@kingthekrish

### 1/5 — The subscripts don’t show up on computer.

*2023-07-17, version 3.100.13*

On the website, Aktiv doesn’t show the subscripts or superscripts for chemical equations. I have a Mac so I thought it would be fixed by now.

### 4/5 — Very solid, but is missing a couple features

*2022-12-03*

First off, this app works well consistently, which is a huge plus. It does everything it needs to do, and does it well. There’s only a few things I would want changed:

You can view the periodic table from the questions in the app, but you can’t zoom in on it, so if you’re on a small screen it’s pretty much useless.

You can’t sign up for Aktiv learning or join a class from the app or the mobile site (IIRC,) which is a pain if you don’t have a computer or don’t take it to class. I had to leave in the middle of class and go to a computer lab to sign up.

On questions where you’re given an incomplete Lewis structure to finish, you can’t reset the question to the starting state, so if you get confused by messing around with it too much, it’s hard to get back on track.

### 1/5 — Horrible app design

*2022-10-27, version 3.78.13*

Won’t let me log in through my school on the app and won’t take the google chrom app. Very annoying because I like to use my phone and iPad so I don’t have to carry around my giant laptop just so that I can do chem homework on your crappy program.

### 1/5 — Window resizing

*2022-09-22, version 3.76.5*

The windows doesn't resize properly on ipad 12.9in iOS 15. Please fix

### 1/5 — How does this app have 4.2 stars?

*2022-08-19, version 3.73.17*

I can’t even get my classes linked nonetheless I can’t do any work on it because it won’t link. Too expensive to not work

### 1/5 — 5 star reviews have to be fake

*2022-03-17, version 3.49.24*

Don't know how this app has any good reviews, really wish my teacher used Pearson that helps you through things when you can't figure it out, instead even if you get the answer wrong it doesn't even tell you. The openstax tab that it recommends doesn't even have the information to solve the problems you're working on. Absolutely terrible app

### 4/5 — Did you guys disable split screen on iPad

*2022-02-17, version 3.47.0*

Great app. Helps a lot. However
Did you guys disable split screen on iPad ? I use to be able to split screen with chem 101 app and GoodNotes app. But now it doesn’t work. I really need this feature back.

### 1/5 — Split screen?

*2022-02-11, version 3.47.0*

Why get rid of the split screen feature… that was how I did my work all on one device. Wow.

### 1/5 — Extremely disappointed and dissatisfied

*2022-01-13, version 3.35.5*

Title explains it all. Want to sign up for a new course at the beginning of the semester? You have to use the computer browser version, you can’t just do it on your phone! You have to hunt for your course access code and your professor might not have even SENT IT TO YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE. This app is extremely hard to navigate. I cannot get access to my new course and now I have to wait for someone to solve the issue. It’s not like I have other classes to attend to or anything. I obviously have plenty of time to babysit this app and wait for a code.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Glitchy af

*2026-04-07, version 4.0.308*

Every time I try to submit an answer, there’s a pop-up screen that reminds me there’s a penalty if I get it wrong. This pop-up flickers stays for .2 seconds and then disappears and so I have to play a game of speed in order to answer my questions. Makes the already growing experience of doing chemistry homework that much worse.

### 1/5 — Awful

*2026-02-19, version 4.0.229*

The solutions are overly complex and messy. Also the directions don’t even tell you what it actually wants half the time. Absolute waste of 32 dollars.

### 1/5 — Keeps signing me out

*2025-10-29, version 4.0.38*

Keeps signing me out and then not accepting my new passwords. Making me lose points in my class. Do better

### 1/5 — Stupid update

*2025-08-20, version 3.177.246*

Horrible update

### 1/5 — worst app on my ipad

*2025-02-06, version 3.162.2*

worst piece of software ever. delete ASAP

### 1/5 — Takes FOREVER TO LOAD

*2024-10-02, version 3.151.33*

Takes minutes for a single question to load and crashes easily.

### 1/5 — Great if you get rid of drag and drops.

*2024-09-16, version 3.147.16*

Drag and drop dimensional analysis questions with 6+ parts should be a criminal offense, especially since the hints are horrible. Hint you got a ratio wrong. WOW thank you for letting me know that I have an unknown ratio that you wanted wrong. Even if you have the right answer in the end you still get marked as wrong. Oh almost forgot, the dimensional analysis questions never tell you what you got wrong, so your left guessing.

### 1/5 — WHAT DOES IT WANT FROM ME???

*2024-08-27, version 3.141.25*

I cant even input my answer that i know, instead it wants me to navigate an entire problem by only CLICKING on different operations. To whomever coded in that feature, I hope your crops wither and this winter is harsh.

### 1/5 — It doesn't work

*2024-04-28, version 3.136.3*

This platform used to be awesome but the last few homework assignments would bug out and crash the program every time I put in the right answer and now I'm getting the same thing just trying to open it. Which means I now have to hope the mobile app works and take my final exam on my phone....

### 1/5 — DO NOT USE!

*2024-01-24, version 3.127.27*

I have to have this app for a class that I am taking. Well the first assignment, extremely easy and simple math btw, and I can’t even understand how to submit answers and you get punished if you get it wrong. At least make your app user friendly. A simple guide on how to use it would help. It’s sickening that you have to pay for this and your grade depends on it but it’s impossible to use.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very clean UI

*2026-01-11, version 4.0.162*

I definitely don’t like homework platforms, but out of all those that I have used, this was definitely the best.

### 5/5 — Bug fix

*2025-08-22, version 3.177.373*

Thx

### 5/5 — My experience with Chem101

*2022-01-12, version 3.35.5*

I was able to practice and understand important concepts with the exercises provided by this amazing platform.

### 5/5 — Great tool

*2021-12-22, version 3.33.9*

I’m a freshman and I used Chem101 for my introductory chem course. I found it really helpful and would recommend to any gen chem courses.

### 5/5 — Chem 101 is great!

*2021-12-20, version 3.33.9*

I have been using this app since the beginning of my semester and all I have to say are good things. It is so convenient and easy to use, I am able to work on my homework while on the go! I love how it features practice problems and step by step instructions so I can always go back when I get lost. Overall, Chem 101 is a must! 👍👍😁

### 5/5 — Chem 101 review

*2021-12-20, version 3.33.9*

So I got this for my chemistry 1010 course and it was great. The system is the same on both pc and mobile. That made my life easier. It also was easy to use and understand.

### 5/5 — Love this app/program!!!

*2021-12-17, version 3.33.9*

Chem 101 made learning course material SO MUCH EASIER. The feedback provided when you answer a question incorrectly and the chances to try again helped me work independently and to learn topics in a way that made sense to me. Would highly recommend Chem 101 to every professor and university, it truly made my class experience more pleasant.

### 5/5 — Great for beginning chemistry

*2021-12-16, version 3.33.9*

Great app for learning chemistry for the first time depending on how your instructor sets it up on their end. I learned the most from this app!

### 5/5 — Great practice app!

*2021-12-16, version 3.33.9*

Chem 101 has made a meaningful impact on my studies. It allows me to practice mathematical and conceptual problems for upcoming exams and I love that I don’t loose all points if I don’t get the right answer at first. There’s a large variety of problems from beginner to advanced in each topic which is also great for developing understanding.

### 5/5 — Solid App

*2021-12-16, version 3.33.9*

Helped a bunch in chem if your professor uses this and actually uses the various features. My only problem is the price, but it’s not bad and better than iclicker, at least for the good grade.
