## What is Al?

Al‑Anon Family Groups is a mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. By sharing common experiences and applying the Al-Anon principles, families and friends of alcoholics can bring positive changes to their individual situations, whether or not the alcoholic admits the existence of a drinking problem or seeks help.

The Al-Anon program is based on the Twelve Steps (adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous), which we try, little by little, one day at a time, to apply to our lives, along with our slogans and the Serenity Prayer. The loving interchange of help among members and daily reading of Al-Anon literature thus make us ready to receive the priceless gift of serenity.

The official mobile app of the Al-Anon Family Groups is designed to provide an easy way for anyone affected by someone else’s drinking to find hope and help, whether they can attend a face-to-face meeting or not.

Features include:
- Al-Anon meetings powered by Zoom with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance enabled. In the app you will see this added security is identified by a green shield inside the meeting. The HIPAA compliance provides the following additional securities:
-- Disallows cloud recordings
-- Forces out of meeting chat encryption on
-- Forces encryption for 3rd party endpoints
-- Disables streaming to any service that only supports RTMP
-- Prevents copying or saving meeting chats

- An opportunity to connect with Al-Anon friends and chat privately with them
- A built-in private journal, which you can use to track your recovery
- A news feed where you can share with your Al-Anon friends what is on your mind; you can also view what’s on your friends’ minds.
- An opportunity to subscribe to a daily dose of Al-Anon members’ experience, strength, and hope.
- An opportunity to easily contribute to the World Service Office.

### 2/5 — Notifications

*2026-04-27, version 5.1*

We should be able to delete notifications after we have read them. It takes up unnecessary space and with us needing anonymity who’s to say that our alcoholics/addicts do not gain access to our phones and then it starts a fight? I can hear some smart guy say, “Well don’t give them access!” Well you try and do that when you’re married to them! I’m telling you that if I can’t cover my tracks then I won’t be using this app.

### 5/5 — Love the App

*2026-04-02, version 5.1*

I for one could not be without the App. Takes afew meetings to get accustomed to using all the features. Had been so helpful as no in person meeting where I live either.

### 1/5 — No moderation

*2026-03-25*

I want to recommend this app. The meetings are lifesavers. But the lack of moderation in the social aspect/news feed allows for rude, unchecked people to comment on posts from others with no risk of being moderated. On top of this, because the block function only works for messages and the blocked user’s posts, the people I blocked still show up on posts and comments. MarkM is inflammatory and rude to others every single day, violating ToS multiple times, yet I can’t even block him and avoid his nonsense cause I can still see his comments on other’s posts. For a recovery community like Al-Anon, full of people needing help and wanting a community we can actually speak to, this is insanely detrimental to us who want a space we be supportive of each other in. Because I don’t want to use this app I’ve been way less active in the overall program as I used to love contributing, but since the WSO seem uninterested in moderation after even being emailed, I’ll stick to my local group and hopefully find online zoom groups I can make friends in.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review and critique. Please reach out to our support team at afgmobile@al-anon.org and we will be happy to provide additional information on updates!

### 1/5 — Can’t sign up

*2026-03-22, version 5.1*

No matter what I do I get error messages when I try to sign up. I’m meeting all the password requirements, but nothing works. I’m disappointed because I was trying to attend my first meeting.

### 3/5 — Meeting times

*2026-03-09*

I’ve had a couple instances where I’ve logged on a few minutes past the hour hoping to find a meeting. It appears that the meetings available advance to the next hour so if you show up six minutes past noon, the meetings listed have already advanced to 1 o’clock and there’s no way to find a noon meeting to join a few minutes late. Please leave the meetings up for the current hour. Some of us are rushing to attend these and then have to reschedule.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review and critique. Please reach out to our support team at afgmobile@al-anon.org and we will be happy to provide additional information on how long meetings appear once they have started.

### 2/5 — Mrs Cuc

*2026-01-16, version 5.0*

Having a hard time creating an account. Every time I make up a password, it will not take the password and it keeps on telling me to have a certain amount of letters symbols, etc.. I am following what they're saying, but it's still not letting me open an account.

### 1/5 — No matter what you do, no password works

*2026-01-11, version 5.0*

I couldn’t register because no password would be accepted even though I followed the instructions.

### 3/5 — Names blocked out

*2026-01-08, version 5.0*

The app is great for meetings but recently in the participant list some people have a block over their name. This block can also move over a split screen. It is affecting the flow of the meeting when their have to call on them.

Don’t see this being addressed or in the list of recent reviews

### 1/5 — No filter for Women Specific Meetings

*2025-12-06, version 4.9*

Why in the world is there no filter for women’s only meetings??!?!

### 1/5 — buggy

*2025-11-18, version 4.9*

can’t log on. tells me i need a certain kind of password and i enter exactly what it says and it still won’t let me in. in a time of crisis and the crisis app doesn’t work
