Use the app frequently as a Season Pass member, and there always seems to be an endless stream of technical difficulties. I haven’t been able to store a payment method in the app for more than a year at this point, often it doesn’t register my pass at all and frequent errors selecting seats, showtimes or logging into my account for no reason at all. A little quality control could go a long way!

They updated the app three days ago, and now I cannot log in at all. I am able to log in on the computer but not on IPhone. Tried to log in on my wife’s phone but won’t log in there either. We had plans to see a movie with friends this weekend but you can’t use the season pass on the computer, and can’t log in on the app so we ended up going to the closer AMC. The theater has changed since the Sony acquisition and this app problem may be my last straw with them.

The only thing the app is good for is showing your tickets to the remaining staff that Alamo hasn’t laid off. You can’t purchase tickets, because it doesn’t work more than half of the time! And they will never update the app to fix this because Sony doesn’t care about their customers at all and is running this beloved company into the ground. 🙂

I've been going to Alamo Drafthouse for 8 years and have been a Season Pass holder for 6 years, since it first launched here in Springfield, and added the extra-seat option 3 years ago. In that time, I've purchased well over 300 tickets across 150+ film showings, yet somehow have never earned any rewards. I kept my membership anyway because I genuinely loved the food, atmosphere, and overall experience. I was happy to support a theater and Springfield landmark I've been going to since I was a kid, back when it was Wehrenberg Theatres/Campbell 16.

Unfortunately, over the past 6 months, the experience has drastically declined. The food quality isn't what it used to be, the app and website have become incredibly frustrating, and the new scan-to-order system has been one of the biggest disappointments. Removing servers has taken away the customization and attention to detail they provided. Something as simple as adding basil to a pizza, which a server could easily accommodate, isn't even an option anymore. I've also had food arrive at the very end of a film despite requesting help multiple times, and my friends and I have had ordered items simply never arrive.

The new gatekeeping process before entering the theater has also been strange. About a month ago, my friend and his wife arrived for a movie only to discover their purchased seats had been given to another couple. Despite my friends showing the employee their tickets, the employee said there weren't tickets purchased for those seats and had already allowed the other guests, whose tickets were actually for different seats, to move into them. My friends didn't want the other couple's original seats, so they ended up leaving entirely.

That same friend works at Cox Hospital and had previously been able to receive the free popcorn offered to healthcare/service workers. On our most recent visit, we were told that benefit now only applies to morning showings. Because of his work hours, he essentially can't use it anymore, which seems to defeat the purpose of offering a benefit to working healthcare employees.

I honestly hate that I'm cancelling. Alamo was my favorite place to see movies, and I loved bringing friends there to experience the films too. I kept hoping these changes would improve with time, but they haven't. They've taken away many of the things that made Alamo special in the first place.

I don't know if these decisions are coming from Sony or elsewhere, but the way Alamo operated before was the win. I genuinely wish Alamo Drafthouse and its employees the best and hope things eventually improve. Until then, I'll be at AMC 11.
