## What is AlarmK?

The morning before an exam, the first day at a new job, a 6 AM flight — some mornings you simply can't sleep through.

AlarmK is a mission-based wake-up alarm built on iOS 26 AlarmKit. Because it uses system-level alarms, it rings through Silent and Focus modes. To dismiss it, you complete a mission — scan a QR code by your bathroom door, solve a math problem, or shake the phone — something that actually requires you to be out of bed.

▶ Why AlarmK
- AlarmKit-based system alarms: same permission model as Apple's Clock app, rings through Silent and Focus
- Mission wake-up: QR/barcode, math, memory, typing, shake, squats, walk, photo — 8 missions (chain up to 5, with a practice mode)
- Deny the system alarm permission and AlarmK won't save an alarm it can't ring — it says why and takes you to Settings
- Wake Report: 7-day wake patterns, mission success rate, streaks

▶ Critical Mode for the mornings that matter
An eight-item night-before checklist: AlarmKit permission, iPhone charging, Silent mode, Focus mode, a saved QR/barcode for this alarm, Apple Watch pairing, a Clock-app backup alarm, and notification permission. iOS gives apps no way to read the ringer switch, and AlarmK doesn't read your Focus status, so those two rows tell you how tomorrow's alarm will be delivered instead. The Clock backup is yours to make — AlarmK never creates one; tick that row once you have. The reliability score appears every time you open the checklist, counting only the rows that settled on a clear pass or fail, your Clock-backup tick included. Anything not ready says so on the spot.

▶ Live Activity & Dynamic Island
As the alarm gets close, a countdown appears on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. When it fires, tap the secondary button to jump straight into your mission. The same countdown appears in the Apple Watch Smart Stack.

▶ Widgets · Siri · Shift work
- Home and Lock Screen widgets show your next alarm and countdown
- Siri & Shortcuts: set alarms, check the next one, start a nap timer, skip an occurrence — without opening the app
- Shift rotations (N days on / M days off), optional Korean public-holiday skip, and a fixed-instant option for dated alarms
- An optional bedtime reminder and the wake check guard both ends of the night

▶ iCloud sync
Your alarm definitions sync via your own iCloud (private database). Switch iPhones and your alarms come with you. Your alarm data is never sent to our servers, and we can't see it.

▶ Honest about the limits
- A phone that's powered off, has 0% battery, or has alarm permissions denied — no alarm app can wake you. AlarmK focuses on flagging those risks before they bite.
- If the system alarm permission is denied, AlarmK refuses to save or switch on a new alarm rather than let it fail quietly at 6 AM. Alarms saved before the permission was turned off keep trying as notifications — with the ringer switch on Silent they may make no sound, and a Lock Screen card tells you where you stand.

▶ Privacy
- Camera and motion permissions are used only during missions
- QR scans are verified on-device, never transmitted
- No third-party analytics — no Google Analytics, no Facebook SDK
- QR secrets sync end-to-end encrypted in your iCloud Keychain (device-only if you turn iCloud Keychain off)

▶ FAQ
Q. What is AlarmKit?
A. The system alarm API Apple introduced in iOS 26. Uses the same permission model as the Clock app, so it rings through Silent and Focus.

Q. What happens if I turn off iCloud?
A. Alarms work only on this device and won't sync to your other devices.

Q. My alarm didn't fire.
A. First check that the system alarm permission, notification permission, and notification sound are all on. Opening the Critical Mode checklist reviews those plus battery and charging, Silent mode and Focus, and points at whatever isn't ready.

### 1/5 — Missing feature

*2026-07-03*

App does not show up in the app list which allows AlarmK to breakthrough when focus mode is activated

**Developer response:** Thanks for reporting this — you were right, and it's fixed in 1.2.0.

On iOS 26 we scheduled alarms through AlarmKit and never requested notification
permission, so AlarmK stayed unlisted in Settings › Notifications — and the Focus
"Allowed Notifications › Apps" picker reads that same list. Alarms did still ring
through Focus, but you had no way to see or control that, which is a fair thing to
call missing.

The app now registers for notifications so it appears in that list, and there's a
banner in the alarm list for anyone who set the app up before the change.

Sorry for the confusion. If it still misbehaves after updating, our support address
is on the product page and we read everything that comes in.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-31

Most of this update makes the alarm ring when it should. Several had been failing quietly in versions already shipped.

Alarms that didn't ring

● Snoozing once also deleted that alarm's registrations for every other weekday, so a Mon–Fri alarm had nothing scheduled for the rest of the week until the app was opened again. Snooze now replaces only the occurrence it postponed.
● A save that failed to schedule left the alarm switched ON in the list with nothing behind it. It is now switched off, and the app says why.
● Tapping "Start mission" while the alarm rang didn't stop the system alarm's sound or vibration. It now stops the moment the mission opens.
● On the notification delivery path, alarms asked for an interruption level this app isn't entitled to, so Sleep Focus suppressed every re-ring and the wake re-check. They now use the level the app has.
● On that path, an alarm with no mission chimed once and stopped. It now keeps ringing until you turn it off.
● In the QR/barcode mission, reading one wrong code stopped the scanner for good, which could leave you unable to dismiss the alarm.
● A quick "in N minutes" alarm could ring up to a minute late. It now rings exactly N minutes from the tap.
● After a reinstall, restored one-off alarms came back switched off.
● Also fixed: deleting an alarm from its edit screen could quit the app, saving an edit switched a deliberately-off alarm back on, and tapping an alarm notification on a cold start did nothing.

Permissions and iOS 26

● iOS 26 is now the minimum. Below it there is no AlarmKit, so an alarm can only arrive as a notification — and with the ringer switch on Silent, a notification cannot make a sound. On iOS 25 and below, 1.2.0 stays available.
● With the system alarm permission off, new alarms can't be saved or switched on. Without it an alarm arrives as a notification, and with the ringer on Silent there is no sound at all — the app cannot read that switch, so it would be saving a silent alarm. Alarms you already have are left alone, turning an alarm off always works, and granting the permission in Settings clears the notice.
● Delivery is described the same way everywhere: an alarm scheduled as a notification says so in the list, the home screen speaks up when AlarmK's notification sound is off, and the Critical Mode checklist reads the real delivery path instead of green where the permission is denied.

iCloud and your data

● iCloud sync works again. For the past few months, changes made on this iPhone were not reaching iCloud: alarms stayed on the device and rang as usual, but they did not reach a second device or come back after a reinstall. The cause sat outside the app and is fixed; 1.2.0 works again too, with no update needed. Settings now shows sync status instead of staying quiet.
● Settings → Erase data now actually erases — it failed with an error in every released version until now. If one step fails the rest still run, and the app tells you what was left behind.

Everything else

● All eight missions can be rehearsed before you rely on one. QR/barcode practice runs with no code registered, and a mission that needs a permission can turn it on there.
● New alarms start with the math mission, so a mission you never picked can't block your first save. Pick QR/barcode with no code registered and the app opens registration, then finishes the save.
● Onboarding can be completed without creating an alarm, and the wake report now leads to the App Store rating screen.
● Skip public holidays now appears only on devices set to the Korea region — the table holds Korean statutory holidays only, so elsewhere the switch did nothing. Alarms that already use it still show it.
● Fixed: tab screens could be dragged sideways, the delete confirmation pointed at the wrong row with Cancel off-screen, the shift-pattern day count broke onto two lines, and the wake report clipped at large text sizes.
● Contact is now support@alarmk.com; the site is alarmk.com.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-19

This update adds multiple layers of protection to help make sure you never miss an alarm.

● Home & Lock Screen Widgets — Check your next alarm and the time remaining at a glance. Alarm status is also available in the Apple Watch Smart Stack.
● Siri & Shortcuts — Set alarms, ask when your next alarm is, start a nap alarm, or skip the next occurrence without opening the app.
● 8 Mission Types — Memory (Tile Sequence) and Squat missions have been added. You can now assign up to 5 missions to a single alarm.
● Try Missions in Advance — Test whether your QR code scans correctly and see how missions work before an important morning. Practice attempts are not saved.
● Shift Work Alarms — Create repeating schedules such as 2 days on / 2 days off. This makes it possible to set work patterns that cannot be represented by weekday-based repeats alone.
● Automatically Skip Public Holidays (Optional) — Work alarms can automatically stay silent on public holidays. Holiday data is included through 2028.
● Fixed Local Time for Specific-Date Alarms — For alarms where the exact local time matters, such as a flight or an important appointment, you can keep the configured time unchanged even when traveling across time zones.
● Bedtime Reminder (Optional) — Calculates your recommended bedtime based on your next alarm and target sleep duration, then reminds you in advance.
● Alarm Escalation — If there is no response for about 40 seconds after an alarm starts, the sound and vibration are reinforced to reduce the chance of missing it.
● iCloud Sync for QR Verification Data — When switching to a new iPhone, previously registered QR codes can be used without registering them again. The data is synced with end-to-end encryption through iCloud Keychain.

Alarm reliability has also been significantly improved.

We fixed a total of 11 alarm-related issues, including alarms created on another device not being properly scheduled on the current device, re-alerts using the previous time zone after traveling, and alarm sounds gradually becoming weaker after repeated snoozes.

We also improved transparency when an alarm cannot sound as expected. Instead of silently hiding the failure, the Alarm Report now shows what happened along with the reason.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-05-31

• Gentle wake — the alarm sound rises gradually over the time you set (30s by default). Change the length or turn it off in Settings › Behavior.
• Block deletion — a layer that keeps a sleepy you from uninstalling the app while an alarm rings. Turn it on in Settings › Protect your alarms (Screen Time–based; switch it off anytime).
• Better English support on non-Korean devices.
• Rate AlarmK right from Settings.
• Stability improvements.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-05-28

New
• A “ringing soon” countdown now appears on the Lock Screen and in the
  Dynamic Island.
• If the app is force-quit by mistake, the alarm rings again within about
10 seconds, with a Dynamic Island countdown.

Improvements
• The ringing Live Activity now uses your chosen accent color.
• Faster cold start when you first open the app.
• Filled in missing English text throughout the app.

Bug fixes
• Fixed the splash screen hanging after saving an alarm.
• Fixed the system alarm re-ringing while a mission was already in progress.
