### 5/5 — Indispensable

*2026-08-09*

If you listen to albums, rather than playlists, you need this. Adds so many more features on top of Apple Music.

### 5/5 — Genau das, was ich gesucht habe

*2026-07-26*

### 5/5 — Oustanding

*2026-07-12*

Best music player for Mac (and iOS). Great design and very responsive developed. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2026-07-10, version 7.1.4*

This app quite literally has revived my love and appreciation for listening to albums front-to-back over the past two years of using it. One of the only apps that’s ever been able to handle a large library. Highly recommend and the premium features are all worth while.

### 5/5 — Exceptional app.

*2026-07-09*

This is an exceptional music player.

It has two features that make it special (that I’ve found so far).

The ability to make random playlists from either your entire collection or from particular sections of it, means I’m hearing tracks I had forgotten I owned. And the ability to hear new releases from artists sin your existing collection means I’m hearing tracks I didn’t even realise existed.

### 3/5 — Great app, but…

*2026-06-12*

Really wanted to love this app but on MacOS it was quite a CPU hog, so eventually I had to abandon it. It’s got huge promise, does everything Apple’s own Music doesn’t do, but even on a fairly modest collection it struggled.

**Developer response:** Hello there, thanks for the review and sorry to hear about the performance issues. I’d love to investigate! Could you email me at adam@albumstheapp.com when you have a chance?

### 5/5 — Really great music player.

*2026-05-31*

I’ve been using this app for less than a week and so far I’m loving it. As the name indicates, it’s a music player that is organized around albums versus individual songs. This may be in my head, but IMO the sound is better than the Apple Music app itself. (Higher res recordings sound clearer than when I play them through Apple Music.) For sure the interface is more visually arresting than Apple Music, with the album art displayed at a larger scale and distractions kept to a minimum. The paid version also displays lots of stats that you won’t find in Apple Music.

Couple of caveats … 1), this doesn’t fully replace Apple Music. You can’t edit Apple Music track metadata from Albums and, in fact, you can’t even view it. 2) If you have a large library like I do, you probably don’t want to keep both apps open at the same time. I tried it and both Albums and Apple Music crashed at various times. 3) Speaking of large libraries, I noticed that some of my larger playlists don’t display in Albums. The music itself is available, but the playlists are empty. 4) Note that Albums can access Apple Music play counts but it doesn’t work in reverse, at least not for the OS version of Albums. So if I play a track in Albums, the play count in Apple Music is not incremented. However, this is not an issue on the iPhone version.

In fairness, some of these issues could be due to my having an extremely large library running off an older, slower external drive.

If the price for the full version were higher, these caveats might be significant enough to lower my rating. But, for the price, I find this a 5 Star Player with a captivating interface. It’s a really nice add on to Apple Music and makes it fun to listen again.

### 5/5 — Well-crafted listening software for serious listeners

*2026-05-11, version 7.1.2*

I’ve been using Albums for years to organize and listen to my Apple Music library. It’s been the best way to listen in an album-centric way for years, and it keeps adding new features that add depth without burying the core UX in complexity. Daily-use app from an excellent creator!

### 5/5 — 5 stars

Literally my favorite app, used daily

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 7.1.5 — 2026-08-01

Fixes:
- Fixed an issue where a resumed session could double-count a track and be marked as complete too early
- Fixed an issue where the queue might not proceed to the next album when playing Albums on one device and browsing it on another
- Fixed an issue where the Now Playing widget might incorrectly show the iCloud indicator while Albums was open on the Mac, even if you’d only been listening on your phone
- Cleaned up superfluous log messages so log file sizes should be significantly smaller
- Fixed an edge case where users who purchased a Lifetime unlock could have to restore purchases with every launch
- Fixed an issue where the “Learn More” pop up on the mini Paywall didn’t work in the Mac app when presented from a secondary window
- Fixed an issue where tracks on pre-released albums added from local files failed to play for non-Apple Music subscribers
- Fixed an issue where the Settings -> About link to send the developer an email could crash on macOS if you don’t have Apple Mail configured
- Fixed an issue where Albums would never again be able to show new albums on the Release Feed or pull in new albums on an artist’s collection page if the artist’s Apple Music catalog ID changed
- In the Mac app, modal sheets (such as the Tag Picker, Playlist picker, etc) now present with a more useful default size, are resizable, and will remember your preferred size.
- Fixed a handful of cases where modal sheets presented with incorrectly rendered buttons or were missing a Cancel button on macOS
- Fixed an issue where the Discography Browser didn’t correctly sanitize artist names returned from Discogs, leading to the inability to view certain albums.
- Fixed an issue where a non-library album whose Apple Music Catalog ID had changed since you last viewed in in Albums might need to be opened several times before displaying its tracklist
- Fixed an edge case where the Mac app could crash during an iCloud sync
- Fixed an issue where artwork and metadata could get out of sync when shuffling songs
- Fixed a couple of edge case crashes related to rearranging the queue
- Fixed an issue where the app could hang when tapping the “Show Additional Catalog Tracks” button
- Fixed animation issues when presenting the Now Playing screen

Features:
- Per-track embedded Composer data is now displayed on the Info pane

Fixes:
- If you make updates to your CarPlay pinned albums, pinned collections, or dock order on your phone while it’s connected to the CarPlay app, those updates will now be shown in CarPlay immediately rather than requiring you to relaunch the app
- Improvements to artwork loading/performance caching
- Fixed yet another edge case that could cause a resumed session to split into two.
- The queue now gracefully skips to the next playable album when it encounters an album without any playable tracks
- Fixed an issue where playing partial albums from the Apple Music catalog could fail on the Mac
- Fixed an issue where toggling between alternate versions of an album did not update the Stats pane and kept showing the stats from the first version you viewed
- Fixed an issue where the Apple Music section was empty on Artist pages in Art View
- Fixed an issue where bulk adding albums to your library could fail
- Fixed an issue where an album’s current tint color might not be available in the color picker in its album settings

- Fixed an issue where the Mac app might continue displaying albums you’ve removed from your library

### 7.1.3 — 2026-05-14

Features:
- A new “Include non-library items” toggle has been added to the Quick Collection configuration screen when the source collection is “All Albums” and any of the added filters include collections that can display Apple Music catalog albums. Before this feature, if you had tagged non-library albums, then tried to make a Quick Collection with the source collection as “All Albums” and a filter for albums with that tag, it would only have displayed albums in your library.

Fixes:
- Fixed a regression introduced in 7.1.2 where playlists could appear blank in album mode
- Fixes for cloud sync edge cases that could cause incorrect listening history data
- Fixed an issue where the bulk library add screen displayed incorrectly on macOS
- Misc. crash fixes

- Fixed an edge case where a library album could show up in the app with an incorrect name
- Fixed an issue where track play counts could show an inflated number in certain situations
- Fixed an issue where some built-in playlists might not show up in the app
- The queue now respects your collapsed vs. expanding preference — if you close the tracklist of the now playing album, next time you launch the queue, it will launch with the current album collapsed rather than expanded
- Fixed an issue where tapping a blank space in the Collections widget would show an error in app
- Fixed an issue where you couldn’t change the sort order of a Quick Collection based on an Insight Collection

- Fixed an issue where new items might not be detected in your library on iOS 26.4
- Fixed an issue that could cause the Collection widget not to render
- Fixed an issue where the header text and buttons could be slightly clipped when viewing a collection in List View
