### 3/5 — Great app, but…

*2026-06-12*

Really wanted to love this app but on MacOS it was quite a CPU hog, so eventually I had to abandon it. It’s got huge promise, does everything Apple’s own Music doesn’t do, but even on a fairly modest collection it struggled.

**Developer response:** Hello there, thanks for the review and sorry to hear about the performance issues. I’d love to investigate! Could you email me at adam@albumstheapp.com when you have a chance?

### 5/5 — i don’t write reviews — this app the exception

*2026-02-19, version 7.0.5*

it’s like the developer crawled in my head and made the exact app i didn’t know i needed. i prefer to listen to albums front to back — the way the artist (and the good lord) intended. this app has helped me rediscover so many albums i love but scrolled past for years. it’s also so visually pleasing to use while still being feature rich and incredibly customizable. seriously, thank you for developing this!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-02-07, version 7.0.5*

Best music app , I like it

### 5/5 — 1 fix you need to do

*2026-01-18, version 7.0.4*

When you’re in an album in the app, would it be possible if you could do fullscreen album art as well as on the lock screen just like Apple Music does please and thank you.
Also, I would love the app to be able to go into landscape plz and thanx.

### 5/5 — 1 fix you need to do

*2026-01-12, version 7.0.4*

When you’re in an album in the app, would it be possible if you could do fullscreen album art as well as on the lock screen just like Apple Music does please and thank you. That would be great other than that. Great app.

### 5/5 — Best Apple Music client

*2026-01-02, version 7.0.3*

This is how I want to listen to my music. I love it.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-12-27, version 7.0.3*

A really great app for music lovers. You can organize your entire catalog and get rid of a bunch of other apps at the same time. I bought the lifetime version and I'm completely satisfied. Don't miss out on it!

### 4/5 — Great concept, but with some data issues

*2025-12-21*

As someone who remembers the days of collecting and listening to entire albums, I love the idea of this app and subscribed for a year to see how much I use it. Unfortunately, I may be turned off simply by the effort needed to correct the data for each album / song in my library. If I have to manually adjust release years and tell Albums that the thousands of individual songs in my library are not complete albums, I may give up. Also, Albums uses Musicbrainz and Discogs for info, and while I use Discogs…I have to say that Musicbrainz must be a dumpster fire of bad data. Albums that Discogs correctly identifies as a 1991 release show up as 1947 in this app. Album Art that shows up correctly in the library view and in Album Settings is wildly incorrect while playing…and I mean not the correct album, not even the correct artist. There doesn’t seem to be any way to correct this either since I’ve deleted the cache and it still persists.

**Developer response:** Hi there, thanks for the review. I’d be curious to learn a little more about your library — each of these things is unexpected behavior, and I wonder what’s embedded in the files themselves.

Feel free to email adam@albumstheapp.com if you’re up for a little troubleshooting.

### 5/5 — It needs only 2 updates it desperately needs a landscape mode and a fix for the song that’s playing

*2025-12-15, version 7.0.3*

Please fix the app so it doesn’t auto-reverse after a song ends. Apple Music handles this perfectly. Thanks!

### 2/5 — Doesn’t allow local music importing into the app

*2025-12-13*

The Albums app does not support direct importing or scanning of local folders/files on your computer independently. Instead, it relies on your system's music library managed by the native Apple Music app (formerly iTunes). You'll need to add your music there first, and Albums will then access and display it for playback and organization. Big question…. WHY?!?!?! I don’t use Apple Music (whatsoever). You made an incredible looking and nicely featured app, and I was so ready to purchase the lifetime license…and then I realize that for whatever weird reason, you don’t let me even import my music directly into your app (locally saved and owned music). Therefore, the app went from super-exciting, to ‘can’t even use’, and I don’t see it plainly mentioned in the app description unless I somehow missed it. Please add the feature to directly import my music folder into your app and scan the web for metadata, and if you must integrate with 3rd part music apps, then please add VLC functionality, or pretty much anything but Apple Music. I will never use Apple Music/iTunes, ever. Then it’ll go from 2 stars to 5 stars. Thanks for your consideration.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the excitement and feedback about Albums, even if it doesn’t have the functionality you’re looking for. Local file support is on the longterm roadmap, but it will take a while to get there.

In the meantime, I wanted to note that the first words of the App Store description are “Albums is the Apple Music player that puts you in control of your music” and I try to make clear during the first-install onboarding that it requires access to your Apple Music library to play music. I’m not trying to deceive anyone that the app does something other than what it says on the store.

### 5/5 — LOVE THIS APP

*2025-12-07, version 7.0.2*

Its ability to find favorites from previous eras in my life is so magical

### 4/5 — it’s a cool app but i would like the ability to add local files

*2025-11-30, version 7.0.2*

pls i’m begging it would be so cool

### 5/5 — This is THE APP to make you love your collection again!

*2025-11-28, version 7.0.2*

This is barely my first week using this app and I can honestly say I don’t know how I lived without it in my life. What a fantastic app! The ridiculous wealth of options it provides for your library is really impressive. Having the album credits right in the same screen is a huge plus for music obsessives like me. The Last.fm connectivity is especially useful since there are a ton of albums I used to listen to before that for some reason are not on my library anymore and now I can easily add them if I want to give them a listen.
If you have a big music library, you *need* this app!

### 4/5 — Great on iOS/iPadOS - crashes often on macOS

*2025-11-17, version 7.0.1*

Lots of features and options. A great app overall but it crashes regularly on macOS. :-(

### 5/5 — Love. This. App.

*2025-11-08, version 7.0.1*

So glad it’s been made!

### 5/5 — Dive in, spend a few minutes, and love your music more

*2025-11-03*

The Albums app is something I’ve used on my iPad for a while, but now that it’s on the desktop, I FINALLY spent enough time to fully appreciate all that this app really can do. After you’re in, go to the “Insights” tab (AFTER all the data is imported and processed) and rediscover some really neat details on your library. I love the “This Day in History” insight to check out which albums came out on this same day from my library. The pre-made playlists by your age ranges are great for music lovers - it will give you a “High School,” “Twenties,” Mid-Twenties,” “Teenage,” and so on, pre-made playlists (collecting music in your library that came out during those times).

I’d also recommend going to Settings > Advanced and turn on (i.e., check the box) for “Auto-Download Credits.” This was so much fun once it was downloaded (took several hours for the APIs to gather everything). Now, when I click on an album and go to the Info tab, I can see a lot of the Producers, Engineers, Art Directors, etc. that worked on that album. For example, let’s say, “Mike Michael” was an Engineer on this album, I can click on his name and see all the other albums Mike also worked on. It’s not necessary to have this info, but it’s a fun way to explore your collection and learn more about our favorite albums/artists.

### 5/5 — Useful for anyone, best for aficionados

*2025-11-02*

Like Apple Music itself, this app has layers that take a while, and a desire, to discover and master. It isn’t difficult but you’ll need to be intentional. If that frustrates you, this probably isn’t your app.
In an effortless algorithmic Pandora world, Apple Music offers a treasure of approaches to learn, retain, enjoy and share your world of music. The ALBUMS app brings bird’s eye organization the Apple Music app lacks.
As many of us drifted into the single track $.99 focus of Apple Music we lost two things. First we lost the importance of albums as a whole creation. Second, like the great scene in Almost Famous with the albums under the bed, we’ve lost the ability to even remember what we have in our vast digital collections. ALBUMS restores both.
ALBUMS can be a bit quirky but I’ve rated it 5 stars in gratitude for the great work of the developer with the confidence he will continue to improve the taming of our digital music mess.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the thoughtful review! I’m so glad you’ve taken the time to really dig into the app.

Feel free to reach out to adam@albumstheapp.com if you ever want to report any of those quirks ;)

### 5/5 — Best Music app for Mac

*2025-10-30*

Incredible to finally have this app on the Mac after having used the iPhone version for years.

### 5/5 — Best player for music fans

*2025-10-24*

The best music player I have ever used — and I’ve been playing mp3s since 1998. And it keeps on getting better and better.

So excited it’s now out for MacOS

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Wanted to love it, but it keeps crashing

*2025-12-27, version 7.0.3*

I love the concept, but the app keeps showing me a spinning beach ball when I scroll down the list of tracks of certain albums. If it were more stable, I’d totally buy it.

### 1/5 — Plantage

*2025-06-27*

S’éteint au démarrage de l’application
Pas possible de l’essayer

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you’re having trouble using the app. If you have a moment, could you please email adam@albumstheapp.com with more details about what’s happening so I can troubleshoot and resolve the issue? Thanks!

### 1/5 — Entwickler zu gierig

*2024-12-29*

Bye. Abo gekündigt.

**Developer response:** Hello Marius,

I’m sorry to hear you aren’t finding value in the app anymore. I wanted to clarify a few things:

1. I increased the subscription price for Albums from $0.99/month or $9.99/year (or regional equivalent) to $1.99/month or $18.99/year for new subscribers nearly three years ago. I allowed subscribers at the lower price to keep that price until a couple of months ago when I brought everyone to the current price. That is the only price change I have made — I’m not sure what the second subscription increase request you mentioned is.
2. I have not removed any functionality from the subscription. If there is a feature you are missing or not sure how to use, feel free to contact me at adam@albumstheapp.com.

Thanks,

—Adam

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work in background

*2023-09-08, version 5.2.5*

This app will not correctly go from album to album to album whilst playing in the background. I have to babysit this app every other album to make sure it doesn’t start repeating itself or stop playing altogether. DO NOT get this app if you’d like to just use your Apple Watch, Lock Screen controls, or headphone controls to listen to music on long commutes, drives, etc. You’ll have to unlock your phone and open the app! This app will be worth it once this big bug gets squashed.

Check out a similar app called Album Time!

### 1/5 — Broken

*2022-06-29*

It just simply doesn’t function, it will not show any music.

**Developer response:** Hi there, sorry to hear you’re having an issue with the app. Could you please go to Settings-> Advanced in the app and email me the diagnostic logs from that screen so we can figure out what’s going on?

—Adam

### 1/5 — Sounds cool, unable to try

*2022-01-04, version 4.2.7*

I really wanted to try this app, however it seems my 70gb of music is too much for it, as it immediately gets stuck running “startup tasks”. I’ve left it running, open and unlocked overnight with no change.

### 1/5 — ALBUM ARTWORK???

*2021-09-16, version 4.2.1*

I got this app because I had thought, unlike other apps, you could see the album up close, both the front and back!! However, I do not see any way possible that this is a feature on this app. Where is it???? Hmm? Where?

### 1/5 — Nur in englischer Sprache

*2021-06-02*

leider nur in englischer Sprache.

### 1/5 — Zu viele Bugs

*2021-05-12*

Die App lässt sich bei mir sehr schlecht bedienen, weil sie so viele Bugs hat.

### 1/5 — Seems good but missing stars rating.

*2021-04-23*

The apps looks good but stars rating is missing. So it’s not really useful to me.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Indispensable

*2026-08-09*

If you listen to albums, rather than playlists, you need this. Adds so many more features on top of Apple Music.

### 5/5 — Genau das, was ich gesucht habe

*2026-07-26*

### 5/5 — Oustanding

*2026-07-12*

Best music player for Mac (and iOS). Great design and very responsive developed. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2026-07-10, version 7.1.4*

This app quite literally has revived my love and appreciation for listening to albums front-to-back over the past two years of using it. One of the only apps that’s ever been able to handle a large library. Highly recommend and the premium features are all worth while.

### 5/5 — Exceptional app.

*2026-07-09*

This is an exceptional music player.

It has two features that make it special (that I’ve found so far).

The ability to make random playlists from either your entire collection or from particular sections of it, means I’m hearing tracks I had forgotten I owned. And the ability to hear new releases from artists sin your existing collection means I’m hearing tracks I didn’t even realise existed.

### 5/5 — Really great music player.

*2026-05-31*

I’ve been using this app for less than a week and so far I’m loving it. As the name indicates, it’s a music player that is organized around albums versus individual songs. This may be in my head, but IMO the sound is better than the Apple Music app itself. (Higher res recordings sound clearer than when I play them through Apple Music.) For sure the interface is more visually arresting than Apple Music, with the album art displayed at a larger scale and distractions kept to a minimum. The paid version also displays lots of stats that you won’t find in Apple Music.

Couple of caveats … 1), this doesn’t fully replace Apple Music. You can’t edit Apple Music track metadata from Albums and, in fact, you can’t even view it. 2) If you have a large library like I do, you probably don’t want to keep both apps open at the same time. I tried it and both Albums and Apple Music crashed at various times. 3) Speaking of large libraries, I noticed that some of my larger playlists don’t display in Albums. The music itself is available, but the playlists are empty. 4) Note that Albums can access Apple Music play counts but it doesn’t work in reverse, at least not for the OS version of Albums. So if I play a track in Albums, the play count in Apple Music is not incremented. However, this is not an issue on the iPhone version.

In fairness, some of these issues could be due to my having an extremely large library running off an older, slower external drive.

If the price for the full version were higher, these caveats might be significant enough to lower my rating. But, for the price, I find this a 5 Star Player with a captivating interface. It’s a really nice add on to Apple Music and makes it fun to listen again.

### 5/5 — Well-crafted listening software for serious listeners

*2026-05-11, version 7.1.2*

I’ve been using Albums for years to organize and listen to my Apple Music library. It’s been the best way to listen in an album-centric way for years, and it keeps adding new features that add depth without burying the core UX in complexity. Daily-use app from an excellent creator!

### 5/5 — 5 stars

*2026-04-29, version 7.1.1*

Literally my favorite app, used daily

### 5/5 — 📀🙉🙊🍎🩵🔈🗞️💯💯💯💯💯🙈🙉🙈🙊🙉

*2026-04-02, version 7.1.0*

🙈🙉🙊🙊🙉🙈 🙉🙈🙈🙉🙊🙊🙈🙉💯💯🍎💯🙊🙈🙉🗞️qwertyuilopk💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🔈💍🌂📀🗞️🙈🙉🙊🔈🩵💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🌂🌂🌂🌂🌂📑

### 5/5 — I just keep on finding useful features! It’s a godsend!

*2026-03-31*

If the Apple Music client feels a bit lacking to you, get Albums. In one place, I can have last.fm scrobbling, large album artwork view (with UI coloured to blend in), collections, stats, and so on. Then there’s the release feed and shareable listening reports. I keep finding new features, it’s so comprehensive. I love it, it’s my default music app - I hope the ability to play your own files gets added, as that would just make it perfect! 👌
