## What is Alcohol Units Calculator?

The purpose of this App is to accurately record the units you are consuming. You do this by, at least, knowing the percentage alcohol and the amount of the drink - specified in ml, cl, litres, uk pints or US fl ozs. Unlike other Apps it does not care what the drink is (e.g. a glass of wine or a pint of beer) just the units. It does not judge you about the amount you are drinking it is trying to help you recognise how much you are drinking and manage that however you want.

Recent changes have introduced the ability to mark a day as Alcohol Free, change the number of days used to calculate the rolling averages shown and, with this update, the ability to change the percentage alcohol and drink amount using the watch App rather than having to use the phone to make these changes.

Ever wondered how many units there are in a drink? This App can can be used to just calculate the number of units in a drink but it can also be used to keep track of units consumed. Just press the 'Add Units' button. Until you ask yourself the question how many units am I consuming day by day, week by week and through the months you will have no idea. Many people wildly underestimate the amount they drink. This App can tell you and it can be very enlightening. Unlike other Apps this one makes no judgement on how much you drink it is a means for you to understand the amounts and to act as you see fit. If you choose to cut down then that is your choice. Maybe this App will confirm that apart from the odd day or two you are generally within guidelines.

This App is not restricted in the amounts that can be entered unlike other similar Apps. The values are entered using a decimal number pad so you are not restricted by the values specified on picker wheels. You can enter ANY amounts using US fl Ozs, millilitres, centilitres, litres, UK pints.

Drink Driving Limits: A 3.6% abv pint of beer has 2 units in it. In the UK to remain within the drink drive limit you can have no more than 1 pint of weak (3.6%) beer - any more and you risk being over the drink drive limit. Note, that the last sentence used the word 'weak', not one pint of beer but one pint of weak beer. So what difference does that make? Well a 5% beer has 2.84 units in it. So, you're probably pushing the upper limit, if not already over it.

Legal Disclaimer: Do not use this App as a guide to whether you can drive a car or not. This App is just for calculating and collating the number of units consumed.

Now with Apple Watch support & iCloud Support to save your precious information. Easy to add the same units from your Apple Watch. See how many units you've consumed today glancing at your Apple Watch. Save you units consumed to iCloud. Retrieve them on another device.

### 5/5 — Excellent, used it for 10 years

*2024-04-27, version 2.2.1*

I particularly like being able to view my alcohol units graphed by the week or by the day, and see the trends. I tried some other apps, but they weren’t nearly as good. iPad and iPhone sync.

### 5/5 — Brilliant and thanks

*2023-07-30, version 2.2.1*

A brilliant app and all my thanks to Jim Chapple for providing it. The app has helped me improve my health and wellbeing. What a great thing to do for people.

### 4/5 — Most accurate tracking

*2023-01-10, version 2.2.1*

The only app I have found where I can track exactly what I drink. I can enter the ml of a drink and the % proof. All other apps expect you to drink in terms of full glasses at set percentages. I sometimes drink 300ml wine - I can’t accurately add that in any other app. Would be five stars if the user interface was a little easier on the eye.

### 4/5 — Unbeatable

*2022-12-31, version 2.2.1*

My previous review from a few years back seems to have vanished.

I’ve been using this app for 3 years now. No disrespect to the developer, who is very helpful, but still hard to believe this is the best option on iOS. If you can’t quickly log data then there’s no incentive to keep track. This app is greased lightning compared to the rest.

I’ve recently re-tried & deleted a few other apps and this is still streets ahead. Ok it’s a bit iOS 8 looking but just a few tweaks e.g. more colours (amber?) on the charts not just red/green and maybe more entries on the recent list & job done.

### 4/5 — Great App

*2022-01-13, version 2.2.1*

As many other reviewers have noted the beauty of this app is its simplicity and ability to record precisely the alcohol taken provided you know the volume and strength of the drink consumed. This compares favourably with other flashier but more complicated and less precise apps out there.

The one upgrade I would like is the ability to add short text notes to each day. This would facilitate a better understanding of drinking patterns for those that need it.

### 4/5 — Don’t update!

*2021-01-20, version 2.2*

Was an excellent app...Latest update just broke it!

### 1/5 — Too difficult and unreliable

*2020-11-26, version 2.1.4*

I deleted this the same evening I bought it, having first entered some historical data experimentally. Unaccountably, the App showed a red bar (for units consumed) on today's date even though I had not entered any data for today and have not had anything to drink today. The yellow trend line was high all through November even though the last drink I had was a month ago. It doesnt seem to show trends for any period longer than one month. Gave up and will look for something else.

### 4/5 — Most flexible app of its kind, but UI could improve

*2020-05-26, version 2.1.3*

By far, the best app I have ever used for alcohol consumption tracking is AlcoDroid but it’s not been ported for iOS. Trying to find a similar app for iPhone is near impossible but this ticks the best of the AlcoDroid boxes.

Its key advantage over all the rest, is its ability to allow the user to type in the ABV number and the quantity of drink consumed. All the other apps have fixed drinks, like you were only being served in a bar. I like to use digital scales at home to weigh measures and I don’t always make the 125ml on a glass of wine. Sometimes it’ll be 124 or 129 etc, so to be able to enter the numbers for every aspect of one’s own alcohol consumption is the USP for this app.

My only small criticism is the UI can be a little ‘clunky’ in parts. The section where it’s possible to edit historical drinks needs work in this area, but I rarely have to use it. Other than that, this is worth every penny of its modest price tag and the fact the developer has bothered to give the power to the user to record exactly what they drink, down to the exact millilitre, is priceless in a sea of apps which have overlooked this completely.

### 2/5 — Type?

*2020-04-14, version 2.1.3*

Can’t seem to input the type of alcohol you’ve had that day?

### 5/5 — Great App

*2019-08-22, version 2.1.2*

I really like this app as it clearly identified the alcoholic units consumed. I would like one change and that is to be able to view the details of any day in retrospect. This would be useful if you have a number of different drinks on any day.
