Bluetooth and the app is a self licking ice cream cone to help facilitate Bluetooth connections. Anything and everything requires Wi-Fi, which is impossible on the side of a snowy mountain, which makes you wonder why you even bought these. ### 2/5 — Notifications broken *2026-01-30, version 4.5.0* App doesn’t show up on iPhone notifications under settings, so can’t turn on. ### 2/5 — Nonstop problems *2026-01-10, version 4.4.1* Have used these for nearly a year. Sometimes app works. Sometimes it doesn’t. I have the snow headphones and also the mountain bike. The bike headphones frequently refuse to turn off. Seems like this company struggles with hardware and software issues. Got everything set up ahead of my trip, made a channel, etc. My controls were not working as the guide said, so I went to update firmware, only to discover that despite being connected via Bluetooth, the app wasn’t recognizing my Nunchucks. I’ve attempted to factory reset a dozen times, deleted the app and redownloaded, deleted my account and created a new one, with zero success. I now have a $150 paper weight and a worthless app. Best part, no customer support on the weekends and I leave for my trip tomorrow. Thanks for that Aleck. ### 2/5 — Unnecessary Download *2025-01-24, version 4.1.451* This should have been a purchase code to an added feature to the Smith Website and nothing more. It’s the interactive equivalent to a PDF “How to”. You have to connect Bluetooth, then the app gives you 2 features that are obvious and a bunch that won’t work year-to-year, since I use my snowboard helmet to 20x per year. ### 1/5 — Ruined Audio Quality and Removed Push to Talk *2025-01-21, version 4.1.451* They basically tanked the app to push their new products. I wouldn’t recommend this company at all. I used the app for a couple years now skiing with the fam and could use push to talk while playing my tunes with solid quality. However, seems they got rid of both. You can no longer use push to talk and when you join a party it ruins your audio quality for your music playback. ### 1/5 — Not usable *2025-01-13, version 4.1.448* Got the Aleck 006 last season and didn't have a chance to use them. Have been trying to get it set up for a few days now and it's like the app is unresponsive. Maybe my Aleck device is bad but it doesn't pair, on the rare times it has paired, the buttons on the 006 don't seem to have any effect on what's happening. Also, seems like this app doesn't get much use or reviews so I'm wondering if it's even still being updated or if any fixes will ever come ### 2/5 — App is terrible *2024-12-31, version 4.1.434* I want the app to announce who is calling me when there is an incoming call. The app only offers the incoming phone number which can be an unknown spammer. If the contact exists in my contacts, announce the name of the contact. Also, when I am putting my gear on in our locker room, the network is not reachable. Demanding the app login before connecting to my Aleck 006’s doesn’t work for me or my fellow skiers. Maybe you could cache my login and not force a reconnect to use your headset. ### 1/5 — NONFUNCTIONAL APP *2024-12-26, version 4.1.434* Bought the Nunchucks to use with my ski helmet. App itself won;t even set up. The app registration process for my iPhone requires an email verification in which they are supposed to send you a code to enter. I have attempted to do that no less than 30x and it fails each time. 95% of the time, the system doesn’t send a code. The few times that it did, use of the code results in an error - invalid code - response. I submitted a request to their technical service department (there is no phone number). Today will be 7 days without a response. And it’s not my iPhone. These guys are truly awful. ### 1/5 — Smith X Alec crash sensor *2024-09-23, version 4.0.370* Won’t pair at all. ### 1/5 — Used to work *2024-09-08, version 4.0.370* It used to work, now it’s useless for Aleck 006. Last update killed it. ### 2/5 — App issue *2024-03-12, version 3.0.243* I previously used the Aleck Go app, and I loved the dark mode feature. It was the most useful feature in the app. I now can no longer use my iPhone to call or text, because Siri says “you’ll have to unlock your iPhone first”. This means I have to take off my gloves and get the phone out of my pocket every time I want to use the phone for anything other than an incoming call. Please bring this feature back. ### 2/5 — Glitchy and unreliable *2024-02-11, version 2.3.192* We bought four sets for skiing, and not one works without issues such as: - music randomly cutting in and out - being in a live group but not being able to hear the rest of the group unless you’re unmuted (annoying for everyone else) - being in a live group but not being able to hear anyone else at all - app crashing - group members who are live not being visible on map Emailed support multiple times and received no response. When it works it’s great, but for us this was about 20% of the time and even then it didn’t work perfectly. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2024-02-04, version 2.2.189* Went through initial pairing. The aleck app is the most poorly designed offshored software I’ve ever experienced, and I’ve worked on design teams. The product is essentially unusable because of it (006). Wasted money. Save your money and look elsewhere ### 1/5 — Snow pro and off grid *2026-01-31, version 4.5.0* Snow pro wont connect to off grid. ### 1/5 — Firmware update changed core functionality *2026-01-22, version 4.4.1* I lost days of not having my Nunchucks after a firmware update, which changed the on setting from holding the right side for 5 seconds to holding both for 2. How do you make such a huge update without backwards compatibility?!? Was not a single UX designer consulted?? I thought my headset was broken and wasn’t able to use it for days. The headset is decent but the software is junk and I’m never updating the firmware again if I can help it. ### 1/5 — Constant connectivity loss *2025-12-17, version 4.4.1* I just received the Aleck Off-Grid and Aleck Snow pairing. Setup was seamless, but there’s a lot left on the table. I ski with my kids and they do not have their own phones. I’d like to be able to set up 3-4 Off-Grid devices under the same account (which is possible) AND have them on the same private channel (which I have been unable to do. So far have been able to put them on the same private channel only by connecting one to my phone and one to my iPad. Another feature I personally used in the past with other walkies is the Always-On intercom (versus PTT). As I ski down the slopes with the kids, I can quickly hear if they fall or need something, without them having to stop to push a button. I hope this comes to Aleck with a firmware update. Update. The app, even after the last update, is useless. My devices do not stay paired. I pair my OG, it stays paired for maybe a couple of weeks, then I have to pair it again. Change the channel again. Make sure everything works properly again for all four OGs I have and their respective Aleck Snow headsets. Luckily I haven’t had to do this yet in freezing temps. ### 1/5 — Junk *2025-12-04, version 4.4.1* Sucks. Controls don’t correlate to what they say. Don’t buy. Refuses to connect to Nunchuks purchased at same time directly from Aleck website. I can connect them via Bluetooth settings. Just cannot connect to app which means I cannot get the Comm Radio to work hands free via my helmet audio. Bummer. The app is slick with a great UI, and the hardware just works. The team is quick to respond to feedback and update both the app and/or firmware if needed. The channel/frequency selection system for the OG’s is a great example of stellar UI, as is the rest of the app. ### 5/5 — Eq adjustment *2024-12-03, version 4.1.420* Couldn’t find the eq setting. Reached out to support there is A way to get and they can help you. Speakers went from sounding very flat to lots of depth it takes a bit of playing with to get it dialed but they sound amazing now. Nice work guys! ### 5/5 — Honestly impressed *2023-12-26, version 2.1.186* I wasn’t expecting much from the reviews but the audio quality is really good( I have no clue why someone said this was airline quality), I just installed them into my Smith Mission helmet. The audio has great depth the volume can get pretty high which I like, the equalizer is a huge plus(one recommendation is that you guys label what each frequency means). I haven’t tried any of the social features yet but I’ll see if I can update my review once I do , just from a glance the map built into the app is really detailed. The app and setup of the device was easy. Overall I have zero complaints and am really excited to try this out on mountain. ### 5/5 — Much improved *2023-09-09* From the old reviews I’ve read about this, there has been major improvements. Just bought some Aleck 006’s on sale and gave them a try. There is a push go talk mode, which yes, there is a delay because it records your message and then delivers it. Which is great if you just want to tell your group where and when to meet up. There is a new feature now that is called party mode. You can go between PTT and party mode in the app. Party mode enables everyone in your group to talk live all at the same time.
