This app has specialized on it. My initial experience and review- The app works, but they’re still working on building their library. It feels like the app is still being developed, I’m not a fan of the UI- I feel like it’s designed to hide the lack of content. I haven’t been erroneously billed or anything like the other reviews mentioned. I would encourage the company to decrease pricing until there is more content, but I suspect they need the capital to hire more actors/pay royalties. So I would advise customers to look for a deal or check it out for a week/month before committing. ### 4/5 — No CarPlay *2024-12-22, version 3.6.1* This is wonderful. The app crashed a few times the day after I downloaded it and I was bummed. Signing out and back in worked. I began listening to a great historical story and had to pause about 1/2 way through to take a call. Afterwards the app never loaded again. I closed the app, restarted my phone, even deleted and redownloaded the app. All I got was a white page with three dots. After a full day of my free trial was lost I was no longer interested. There are only a little over 30 to choose from. And there is over lap in categories. Not really worth the price. ### 2/5 — Disappointed with content *2024-05-13, version 3.1.0* While I love old stories from Shirley Hazzard, etc. I was disappointed there were no contemporary cover stories from excellent non-fiction sources like The Christian Science Monitor, New Yorker, Esquire, Atlantic, etc. Will likely not renew the free trial. ### 2/5 — great concept, glitchy app *2024-01-22* such a great concept and i would’ve absolutely LOVED this app if it wasn’t so glitchy. it would play about 2 minutes of audio before the entire app would crash and i would have to reload it, find the story i was listening to, scroll through and find my place, and repeat. it was so tedious i just gave up. once the bugs are fixed this app will be amazing! ### 3/5 — Good idea but not great value *2023-01-24* This is a great idea, I like the option to listen to or read the content, and to see where you’ve got to on the audio if you want to switch to text. But it’s not easy to see if any new content has been added - I’ve subscribed for over a month and it’s not obvious if there’s been anything new in that time. A ‘date added’ button would help. One item in particular has been advertised as ‘coming soon’ the whole time I’ve been subscribed, but still hasn’t appeared. Once I’ve listened to all the ones I’m interested in I will probably cancel my subscription. ### 3/5 — Bugs *2022-01-14* Changing my initial review to 3. The content is great so I purchased the subscription. Two days later the app still won’t open, anything I do just spots out “give us the money” page. While within the app I’m “subscribed” and the confirmation from Apple states the money went though their response was very lax and casual as to go through the process again (I did, twice, even though I’m already subscribed), nada. So still waiting for something to happen. If they won’t fix it will have to contact Apple and get a refund and worst of all, waste time on this all. It is always saying “the username exist” while there is no field named username; plus, I double checked my email address, all correct and first time used. Also tried to sign up with another email, it came thru but no verification code sent. They charged me for the year, even though I tried to cancel it before the trial ended. I feel completely scammed. Every time I go to use it it refuses to play stories and function properly. Really disappointing because I was super excited to use this app. ### 1/5 — Did not work at all *2025-04-29, version 3.6.4* I just had the loading icon appear on a blank screen. Never loaded no matter how many times I updated or deleted the app and downloaded it again. Reached out for support and never got a response ### 1/5 — Poor Customer Service *2025-01-03* Admittedly, I made a mistake and did not set a reminder on my calendar to cancel the trial period before I was charged $129 for the annual subscription. On the day, or the day after the charge, I immediately contacted support on Dec 20th (initiated from the app) to ask kindly if they could reimburse me, as I had not listened to anything at all. I also contacted them on Dec 24th, Dec 28th, and Jan 2nd. To ensure I did not miss a response, I have checked Spam/Junk as well. At this point, while the refund would go a long way for me, it is the lack of response that is bothersome. I have cancelled my subscription, though I still have access for a year, which I really do not want. I am sure if one does not need to contact support, you will enjoy this app. Though the lack of response is very disappointing. I have not had an issue like this before. ### 1/5 — The voices are AI Junk *2024-12-15* I really hope they’re not stolen voices as well. Some of the narrator voices feel really clunky and uncanny valley. The app constantly pushes you to buy things even when trying to just preview the app to see if you even want to stick around. Instantly pushing a review too. Not a good app at all. Rather listen to real people, even unknown people reading than some cheap AI generative low quality and effort junk. Wouldn’t recommend. ### 1/5 — Won’t give subscription *2024-12-10, version 3.6.1* I tried to take advantage of the 70% offer. It said I’d be billed $0 for the first year, then $119 after. I screenshotted it. When I try and sign up it has the full price. ### 1/5 — App didn’t work and the customer support won’t get back to me. *2024-12-04* I was really excited to use this app, but unfortunately, the app often crashes and doesn’t work properly. They went ahead and charged me after I told them I would like to cancel during the trial period. Every time I reach out to customer support I get no reply. ### 1/5 — Billed before end of trial *2024-09-04, version 3.5.9* Received notice that I’d been billed for a month’s subscription cost only a few days into the “free” trial. ### 1/5 — Charged after canceling *2024-08-07, version 3.5.6* Canceled trial, then still charged the highest price for yearly subscription. Impossible to cancel. I really like the stories. Unfortunate. ### 1/5 — £15/month No prices shown until you sign up *2024-06-16* It so irritating that the prices aren’t shown. You have to go through the downloading and signing up process before you get the prices. So if you don’t like the price, you have to delete again and it was all a waste of time. Then in order to waste your time even further it won’t delete your account until you type a phrase into a box. Even then, you can’t proceed… until you realise it’s case-sensitive. And they presumably have your contact details after all this. To save you the bother, it’s little under £15/ month or ninety-something per year. You can’t listen to anything without signing up. You get 7 days free trial but then they will charge so don’t forget to cancel it if you don’t want to continue! ### 1/5 — Terrible business practice *2024-05-12* App offers a trial period in which it would supposedly notify user when trial period is about to end and then charge subscription fee. Never received a notification as such, and found that I am being charged an annual subscription fee, an option I never selected. There is no in app account support for users, nor any customer support number available. Of this particular book app and I must admit that I was very skeptical and felt that it was very unlikely that I would like this app when there is a plethora of reading and audiobook apps to choose from. But I was pleasantly surprised! The works that I presented here or carefully curated and I have been very pleasantly surprised at how easily, I became engaged, in fact, even engrossed at times, in the stories. I highly recommend that you give this app a chance! It’s free and if you’re like me, you’re going to find that you think that the monthly fee — equivalent to the price of a single cheap fast food meal — is definitely a better choice and much more healthy to both your psyche and body! Tune out the negative noisy world and tune in to a lovely alternative reality for a few minutes or a few hours.
