### 5/5 — Make your birding friends at home jealous

*2022-07-15, version 2.1*

We had an extended stay in Colombia during lockdown and we really enjoyed using it for birdwatching. We are hopi g to use it more on an upcoming return trip to the coffee region.

### 5/5 — Very helpful app for birding in Colombia.

*2022-05-15, version 2.1*

Helped my out more than any field guide book would’ve.

### 5/5 — Absolutely fantastic

*2022-02-25, version 2.1*

Such a good guide to the birds of Colombia!

My only feedback would be (if such a thing is possible) to be able to search by your current location so you don’t end up attempting to identify a bird by looking at birds that aren’t in that region of the country. For a place like Colombia with SO many species to choose from, and where so m any of the birds are only found in one specific habitat type, it can be hard figuring which of the hundred+ flycatchers or hundred+ hummingbirds you’re looking at.

### 5/5 — Easy to use and very helpful

*2022-02-03, version 2.1*

Even if you are just getting to know the birds in this area this app is very useful

### 5/5 — Trip to CO in 3 weeks 2022

*2022-01-29, version 2.1*

Quick and easy to find the groups of birds you wish to see. Just learning all the features and how to make trip list, like the note area as well. Like the side by side feature to show similar birds. Thanks, I told my Audubon trip group about it.

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2022-01-28, version 2.1*

Very helpful guide to Colombian birds! Very in-depth. Very detailed drawings and even includes bird songs for each bird. A must-have if birding in Colombia.

### 4/5 — Expect the Book plates

*2022-01-14, version 2.1*

The app is essentially the book. That’s not a bad thing but it does make comparing plates a bit cumbersome. Also, the filters by region are a bit weak. Overall, a great resource, especially if the alternative for you is carrying around the book. It’s best to have the app as a companion to the book but you won’t have to carry it all the time.

### 5/5 — Very Helpful

*2021-04-20, version 2.1*

The pictures and descriptions are very accurate- combinedWith the description of habitat and range I can fairly easily distinguish between similar species. The various calls and songs provided add a richness to my experience when I’m identifying these birds. Very satisfied with the Columbia guide as I have been with other Sunbird apps

### 5/5 — Excellent search feature

*2021-04-11, version 2.1*

Appreciate the intuitive search engine and ranking results be percent probability.

### 5/5 — detailed and a key part of the id arsenal

*2020-12-29, version 2.1*

drawings can be more helpful than photos at times. the ability to sort by altitude is helpful. long lat would be a powerful next feature for the developers.

### 4/5 — Ecuador update?

*2020-06-23, version 2.0*

Love the app but latest update mentions Ecuador, not Colombia. Just a typo or what?

### 5/5 — Sound issue easily resolved

*2019-03-20, version 1.9*

This app originally worked great on my old IPAD but with a recent IOS update (10.3.3) , the sound no longer plays. Not sure what the issue is as my other sounds work fine.

UPDATE: thanks to the very prompt reply from Jessica the problem was easily fixed. I had inadvertently changed a setting on my IPAD. Totally my fault.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Search mechanism needs to be updated

*2024-01-15, version 2.2*

I had high hopes for this app, but found it difficult to use. It has an amazing catalogue of bird species with lots of useful information on each bird, but the search mechanism makes it difficult to find anything. A few changes would greatly improve the functionality. First , the filter mechanism should start with the most important and basic details, like bird size and primary overall colors. Second, as the user adds variables to the filter, it should narrow the choices, not expand them. The more specific the user is, the fewer choices they should see. The way it currently functions, if you put in 3 variables, you end up with over 1,000 options to search through, which will include birds of ALL sizes. It makes it impossible to identify birds you’re unfamiliar with.

### 1/5 — Fails to perform

*2019-12-18, version 1.11*

I had to buy this app twice, once for android and once for Mac. The Mac version will not open species accounts. Appears to be no way to reload to see if that solves the issue. No help otherwise.

### 1/5 — Can’t hear the bird song on my Iphone

*2019-11-23, version 1.11*

The app looks great, but I can’t hear the bird songs on my IPhone. Any clue why?

### 2/5 — Not ready for prime time

*2024-11-27, version 2.2*

The illustrations were not useful in the field. Colours are not clear enough. A single low quality drawing per bird is not helpful enough. The maps were okay and the songs/calls seem okay, but did not use them in the field. The biggest issue is that there are nearly 2000 birds and there is no way to show just the birds in a region. It is painfully slow trying to sort thru 150 hummers or 140 flycatchers. Even breaking it down by province or state would help. Thank goodness our guide had a really good field guide forColombia

### 3/5 — Decent app. A little over priced.

*2022-02-21, version 2.1*

When compared with the new plates from the Lynx / Birdlife physical guides most of the illustrations leave a bit to be desired and there are no map figures for reference. The best feature is the sounds provided with sonograms (a useful learning aid). Would purchase this over the Colombia BirdSounds app since the recordings are of far better quality (Boseman’s better recordings from the other app are represented here as well as many supplementary ones which makes for a good sound library).

### 3/5 — good features, and weaknesses

*2019-12-02, version 1.11*

This series of bird guide apps has some excellent features, in particular the ability to select multiple species to compare. These will be displayed on the screen, and you can switch between showing their illustrations, their range maps, and their vocalizations (displaying the sonograms, or playing the songs and calls).

However, there are some weaknesses. The illustrations are not as realistic or as attractive as those of the leading illustrators for South American field guides. Though there are illustrations of many races and plumages of each species, there seem to be none of birds in flight, which are the most important for raptors and others. One minor annoyance is that, once you choose a Family of birds, the species are listed in alphabetical order of the first name, which makes it much harder to use than if they were in taxonomic order.

Nonetheless, it’s terrific to have an app for Colombian birds, and there is no alternative at the moment, so anyone going to Colombia to see birds (more species than any other country) needs to get this.

### 3/5 — Nice app but.....

*2019-02-22, version 1.11*

I recently purchased this app for use on a forthcoming trip to Colombia. On the surface it seems just about perfect with good coverage of species, well illustrated, good sound clips etc. The downside, and it’s a big one, is that it has a tendency to crash. When it does the only way to get it going again is to delete the app and download and reinstall again. This is totally impractical in the field and given limited WiFi in the lodges far from helpful.

### 3/5 — Slow to open

*2019-02-04, version 1.9*

The app is very nice in many ways but is very slow to open, which makes it difficult to use in the field. Each time you return to the app it takes more than five seconds to load. Compare this to the Sibley app, for example, which opens in less than a second.
We noticed a few mistakes in the app: limpkin is misspelled as “limkpin”; the illustration of the Western Wood Peewee is incorrect; and some species are missing or need updating (eg., Antioquia Wren is missing).

### 4/5 — Excellent paintings

*2024-01-14, version 2.2*

Very good photos and tons of supporting information for everyone of the 1700+ birds in Columbia. Very thorough well organized but still much slower to use for me than a bird book but I am pretty new to using Bird apps. Does not have filters for parts of the country. The author wrote one of a few excellent bird books about Columbia, but it’s out of print and cost $80 if you can find it.

### 4/5 — Good first impressions

*2023-03-29, version 2.1*

App looks straight forward to use and species comparison facility (although not available for every species), useful. Sounds I’ve listened to so far are clear and range maps detailed. Illustrations are somewhat “average” and limited but overall I think will prove a worthwhile investment for my forthcoming trip.

### 5/5 — All Birds Columbia field guide

*2025-02-26, version 2.2*

I am traveling to Barranquilla Colombia for Birdwatching. This app has very good, illustrations and accompanying for descriptions. I believe this will be an asset in identifying and studying the birds of Columbia South America.

### 5/5 — Still using

*2024-01-09, version 2.2*

It’s been eight years since I was in Colombia. I still use the app to try to figure out what some of the birds I saw were. It’s a great birding companion. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2023-11-15, version 2.1*

Easy to use and to jump to a specific species quickly. Audio files for most species with sonograms. Excellent artwork for identification showing multiple variations for certain species.

### 5/5 — Excellent app with detailed info about Colombia birds

*2023-10-11, version 2.1*

I was hesitant to spend so much on an app but this app has extensive info about the birds of Colombia with songs/calls, maps, status info, habita, sim species and even sorting methods that let you narrow by endemics plus eng latin and spanish names. So worth it!

### 5/5 — easy to use

*2023-09-18, version 2.1*

the app is easy to use. some of the drawings are a little silly but they’re accurate so it’s fine.

### 5/5 — Sunbirds: All Birds of Columbia

*2022-11-16, version 2.1*

I am prepping for a trip to Columbia this winter. I have found the format to be both easy to use and helpful, as I work through several additional apps. I have noticed a few name changes that may need to be updated.

Using other apps I can review pictures and confirm their real time locations. This app has been most helpful in giving me a better understanding of the bird species that this North American birder is not yet familiar with.

I recommend this app. I have enjoyed working through and attempting to become familiar with the birds I hope to see on this trip.

### 5/5 — Excellent and comprehensive guide to birds in Colombia

*2022-09-18, version 2.1*

I downloaded this app prior to visiting Medellin area. The bird database is very comprehensive and I was able to identify species quickly and easily using the identification feature of the app. This is definitely an app for people who seriously love birds.

### 5/5 — Excellent Resource

*2022-09-15, version 2.1*

Very well designed app giving instant access to images and descriptions to the birds of Columbia. Much better than carrying a heavy bound paper guide in the field!
