App is too old! ### 3/5 — Generally does the job, but some issues, and missed opportunities *2022-01-24, version 2.1.2.1* In all this app does the job fine. A lot of the issues older reviews complain of seem to have been fixed as it does now essentially load a mobile version of the Biketrac website. Unfortunately there are some issues with auth (it constantly wants you to log in again), though this is usually solved by force closing the app and reopening it. It seems a new auth token is generated on a fresh app start, but not when it’s reopened from running in the background. The other issue I have is the missed opportunity of having a mobile app that is more handy than the website. Biketrac is generally great, but can be a bit too sensitive. This is better than not, but I’ve had alert calls when I’ve been taking off the cover and removing the locks without the key in. It’d be great for the app to have shortcuts for things like this without having to go and set the bike to servicing mode; “disable for 5 mins”, or “disable until next start”. Even better if this could be done through the Home Screen context menus, or used with the iOS Shortcuts app. It would also be really useful if the app icon reflected the status of the tracker - eg. add a badge if the tracker is in servicing mode. It also would be helpful to be able to force a location re-check. I’ve had a couple of panics where I’ve checked the app and the bike is reporting a couple of streets away from where I actually left it, “2 hours ago”, marked as high accuracy. It’s common for thieves to move bikes a short distance and leave them to check if they have a tracker before returning. Being able to force an update would help with reassurance, and save rushing to check it’s not actually been moved. So all in all, good and it does do the job, but there are some quirks and it could easily be better with some thought and effort. ### 2/5 — Never updates! *2020-08-02, version 2.0.1* The product owner or dev team for this app really need to improve mobile client security lifecycle. I know this stuff can be considered nice to have and can be hard to prioritise but it’s essential. Every time you open the app to check your bike it’s location will be out of date only showing last checked location, not actual current location. This is a terrible experience and easily fixed with a few small changes at the back end. This is basically 1990 backend server authentication in a 2020 mobile app. The mobile client appears to use a mobile responsive version of the website which then forces fresh log in once the session ends (usually after a period of inactivity). This is usually acceptable on the web because you might be using a public terminal or a friends machine, and you have a keyboard so typing is easy. On mobile the experience should differ. Passwords are super awkward to type, no one else uses your mobile, and it’s usually got a secure passcode Or biometric security. Now days customers expect not to have to re auth in mobile apps. Not even my banking app does this any more. For higher security bank apps will use the built in mobile biometrics in eg: banking and link then to the service authentication. Biketrac should have this as an option it would be very slick. I don’t feel I need this level of security, I’d be fine with only logging in once at registration. The backend severs should be able to generate a long term client device token that can be named and managed in the account security section (of the website (and revoke for old devices). A unique long token is generated after login and can be used indefinitely without the need to login as it can’t be guessed by hackers. This has been the way for the last ten years in mobile auth so please for the love of god sort this out Biketrac, it makes the app unusable. The worst thing is, it’s does not even log you out after the session expires, so you have you logout first. It’s a waste of my time! web apps should be mobile first, so Mobile and desktop experience is low friction like mobile. Mobile first guys! Why add new features like odometer and service alerts creating mode code and more complexity when you don’t have the basics sorted? Also, a nice to have would be to add mobile is native notifications in addition to text alerts. They cost nothing and when you fix the expiring session issue are easy enough to add. I’d like the option for these alerts to tell me how my pride and joy is doing. it’s good to see a British company building something, this could be a 5 star app, you’re close, it’s got slick design, but the user experience is let down by poor mobile experience forcing awkward password entry every time you want to use the app - defeats the point of having an app - they should be simple, easy, quick, click the icon see where my bike is any time. My main concern going forward would be how the VHF signal gets enabled on the bike. I’ve read of thefts where for some reason VHF wasn’t enabled and data contact was lost with the bike meaning the bike was out of reach and couldn’t have VHF enabled any more, therefore could not be located. I’d like the option enable VHF myself during theft via online tool if I get there first. Maybe this is rare, hope I never have to find out. I will let you know how it goes if there’s a theft event. God I hope I get my bike back. Fingers crossed. ### 3/5 — Disappointed with this app/service *2020-07-07, version 2.0.1* The app could be so much more helpful than just showing me where the bike is and for enabling service mode. For some reason the mileage and hours don’t change. Difficulties switching arming mode using the app. Check-in seems unreliable (even in open spaces in a major U.K. city) and my bike constantly shows up as ‘overdue’ whatever that means. I think this company needs to think much more about the user experience which is at best average. Make it a bit more user friendly. When I need to activate service mode it’s a pain getting into the app and through the settings. 1, Please allow service mode to be enabled more easily. - Maybe changeable by pressing status - An iOS widget. - Siri 2, Update for iPhone X larger display. Would save scrolling to settings App feels like it’s just enough. I want to love it! ### 3/5 — Average *2019-04-05, version 1.0.2* Just signed up for 3 years, you’d think that they could keep the app updated for the cost of subscription. Apart from a few features missing on the app from web portal, namely the switching between to geofence, I find the sporadic movement of the bike when parked up that automatically increases the ODO reading to be very frustrating and can only be corrected through the web portal too. Not entirely sure why is so different and waaay worse then heading over to The BikeTrac website on your phone. It’s also a shame that still in 2019 it’s not optimised for an iPhone X. Quite disappointed if I’m honest would of expected more as there’s sooooo much potential the app could be. There has not been any updates for over a year. When are getting a new update that includes these missing features?!? ### 1/5 — Rubbish *2018-08-18, version 1.0.2* So I’ve literally just paid hundreds of pounds for a tracker and not only is the app not optimised for an iPhone X display but it won’t log me in. But the web portal does. Do you guys even use the app you develop? Please sort this out otherwise I’ll be after a refund. ### 4/5 — Nearly perfect *2018-06-25, version 1.0.2* This app does almost everything that the web portal can do, with three big exceptions. You can't change the arming mode between geofence and/or movement. You can't change your contact numbers but mainly, you can't access Journey mode and show your route history. Other than those things, it's great. You can easily turn on service and transport mode and the quick access call buttons to the security centre or the police are a super feature. Let's hope they update to add history and then I'll use the app instead of the web portal shortcut I have on my first screen. ### 2/5 — Not enought features *2018-06-23, version 1.0.2* The app has not got enought features to use. The motion tracker on my bike is very sensitive. It sets off alerts just removing the chains. So the ability to switch to service mode on the phone is great. Log in issues, simply a portal to the website, hard to navigate. Multiple menus to scroll through blindly just to put it into ‘service’ so I can come off the centre stand without getting a phone call. But I was hoping they’d sorted a few of the issues out, errrrm NO. If you can actually get past the identity.m2mcloud.com white page then you are almost winning! Then for it to log you out unnecessarily! Back to losing again. The app should not rely on a webpage. This needs to be developed correctly and work. Seems like I’m stuck as the bike dealership installed this tracker and no other option but actually getting another tracker installed with an app that works! Shouldn’t have to rely going onto a webpage to do checks etc Notifications do not happen as the app won’t have you logged in. This is a terrible flaw in what could be great. If it works at all it just acts as a portal to the webpage and even then key stuff like mapping doesn’t work. You would think for the subscription we pay they could get this working. Just hope the rest of the biketrac service is significantly better. Even if I select “Forgotten my password” it doesn’t recognise my email address. Customer Service suggested I re-install the app but this made no difference at all.
