### 2/5 — AI chat underwhelming

*2026-07-17, version 2.7.2*

Speaking with the chat, it's clearly a very outdated LLM - think 2024 level competency. It initially pushed me to eat 1500 calories per day to lose 1.5 pounds / week and, as someone who has tracked calories in the past, knew at 6'0 210 pounds working out 5X / week, that the number made zero sense. After reviewing assumptions, it was clear where the leaks where - and they were very naive.

As an AI-native app this is highly disappointing. Moving back to MyFitnessPal

### 4/5 — It’s improving and benefits from specifics

*2026-07-14, version 2.7.2*

This is a revised review. Original was two stars. Great idea and I found it terribly let down *at first* by bugs and Al doing its Al thing and making up stuff.
However I’ve persevered after the founder reached out to me and explained what was in the process of being fixed etc.
Since then I’ve found it actually to be a lot better than it initially was but like all apps with an AI element you need to be aware of AI limitations and sometimes question it. That’s an issue with AI not the apps. If you’re looking for a calorie/diet assessment tool it’s pretty good - particularly on the nudge advice. It’s pretty accurate with bought packaged foods (which I rarely eat) but needs a more careful eye over its thinking when you do your own cooking from scratch etc. I found that it’s default assessment of a portion was, putting it politely, slightly American supersized compared with the average European meal (average is obviously very subjective) so it can help to give it specifics such as pictures with description or actual weight (eg 150g of pasta).
The upshot is that I’m going to stick with this over the next few months as it’s turned into a useful coach / guideline adviser particularly now it’s counting my exercise - and chatting with it ahead of an evening meal can be very useful to consider what you really need / want and to approach food mindfully.

### 5/5 — Best nutrition app ever!

*2026-07-12, version 2.7.1*

Super easy to log food, you just talk to it like an AI assistant, or take pictures. The logging is shockingly accurate, and then it gives you useful advice on how to make small, but beneficial changes to your diet. Also integrates with Claude. Much better than the few other calorie apps I’ve used.

### 5/5 — Great Resource

*2026-07-12, version 2.7.1*

This is a really great, easy to use, app. I really love it. Using it has naturally improved my eating habits. I love how easily it connects to my Claude account for deeper health coaching.

### 5/5 — The Best Nutrition App

*2026-07-10*

I feel like I've tried all of the leading nutrition apps. Alma is, hands down, the best. Alma's AI-native user interface makes it simple and elegant to work with - the voice dictation couldn't be easier. It also has a native MCP server so it integrates nicely with AI tools. Hats off to the team at Alma for creating the future of nutrition tracking and coaching!

**Developer response:** This means a lot, especially coming from someone who's tried so many nutrition apps. We're so glad the voice logging and MCP integration are working so well for you!

### 5/5 — Game changer for logging food

*2026-07-05, version 2.6.0*

Really simple to use, and still holds you accountable.

### 2/5 — Lots of bugs

*2026-07-03*

It has a lot of bugs and it constantly asks you to resign in even if you already signed up

**Developer response:** Thanks for flagging this. Being asked to sign in again and again is definitely not normal, and we want to make this right. We actually emailed you to check in so we can look at the exact account details. If you don't mind replying there, we'd love to sort it out for you.

### 5/5 — Absolutely incredible!

*2026-07-01*

Love the app. There’s always room for improvement of course but the team is pretty responsive and considerate. Highly recommend this! I can’t go back to manual logging after experiencing the awesomeness of voice logging my meals haha.

**Developer response:** This made us smile. Once you get used to voice logging, manual logging really is hard to go back to! Thanks for the kind words and thoughtful feedback.

### 5/5 — Great tracker!

*2026-06-30*

This app has been a game changer. I’ve tracked plenty of times and know how to cut. I was looking for an app that could adjust to my expenditure and keep me eating enough. Some days my move calories are 450 and other days they are 1800. I needed to know what to eat on each of those days and all of the in between. Alma has been perfect!

**Developer response:** This is so good to hear. Alma adjusting to real day-to-day activity is exactly the kind of coaching we want to make easy. Really glad it's helping you eat enough and stay on track. Wishing you all the best.

### 5/5 — Best tracker app ever!!

*2026-06-30*

I’ve used many meal tracker apps, paid and free but each one loses momentum when you have to manually enter in each ingredient for each meal. This app makes it easy to speak to it and track meals conversationally.

**Developer response:** This means a lot. We built Alma to remove the friction from logging, so hearing that conversational tracking is keeping the momentum going is exactly what we hope for. Wishing you all the best.

### 2/5 — Used to Love

*2026-06-27, version 2.5.0*

I used to absolutely love this app. I used it for a little over a year and when I went to log my meal as usual, I got a screen telling me I needed to purchase a membership. As a trainer and nutrition coach, I recommended this app to all of my clients, but I no longer will be. It’s a great app, don’t get me wrong. But it used to be free. I and majority of my clients cannot afford to spend $100 (and that’s 58% off the yearly membership) on an app. How sad and disappointing.

### 2/5 — Got hacked?

*2026-06-21*

Wanted to add a supplement (magnesium), scanned the barcode on the container, alma says its some sort of drink. Wrong? Fix it? Yes. Took a picture from the label and list of what it contains. Alma shows an error message: „this barcode seems to belong to a supplement, not a food“ (ehm yes) but it wouldn‘t let me change it. If I add the supplement manually by entering the entire name and brand, it searches, adds it to my history but adds only „magnesium 200mg“ but it’s a 5-in-1 product. So that does not seem correct 🤷🏻‍♂️
Then I scanned the barcode of soy milk…searching…found it…again same drink as when I scanned the magnesium supplement. It alswsys finds „Barcode Fitness Water Premium Hydration Lemon“. Why???
Also when I want to track a food (in that case a soy milk) I scan the barcode, it finds it pretty quickly, besides that the values were initially wrong it worked out ok. So when I now go to saved foods/add new food, scan the same barcode, it searches ages for the product, and adds „1 carton“ of that milk. Why not again 1 serving?
Does not track caffeine. Already had a double shot espresso but the app still says caffeine 0.
I am taking an activated b complex supplement every day but the B vitamins in the app all say 0 even though I tracked it.
When I invite my wife for her to be added in my circle, she accepts but does not appear in my app.

**Developer response:** Thanks for taking the time to write this and for sticking with Alma despite the frustration.

We tracked down a bad barcode mapping that could return the wrong item and corrected the supplement and caffeine data we could verify. We also shipped a handful of fixes around barcode scanning, supplements, saved foods, and serving sizes based on what we found.

I’m still looking into the family invite issue and have reached out by email so we can sort that one out together. If you ever run into something that doesn’t look right, feel free to email me directly at rami@alma.food.

### 5/5 — Can’t speak highly enough of this app

*2026-06-20*

There’s just something about Alma that’s different to any other food tracking app - It’s certainly a more a positive experience! The AI coach also gives much needed insight into your nutrition and habits.

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing this. Hearing that Alma has helped your energy levels and made nutrition feel simpler means a lot. Thanks for being part of the journey ❤️

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Read before subscribing, very inaccurate, detailed review

*2026-08-12*

I’ve been using it for about a month and unfortunately subscribed for the year. :/ I really want to love this app, but the accuracy is terrible. I could give many examples, but I just had what I think is a very clear case today which got me to write this. I typed “1 can of Coke Zero” it put 4 calories, 0g protein, 18g carbs, 36g fat. Obviously this is wrong so I clicked “fix it” and it showed an option that said “Coca Cola Zero” and had the correct 0 cal, 0p, 0c, 0f so I think it’s right. Then I see it has 9mg of caffeine listed when it should be 35mg. My point is this app is pretty terrible at the core function and takes way too much babying to get it working properly. The team is responsive when you report things, but it’s always a band aid for the specific issue and you’ll find many more if you continue to use it. I don’t know how their system works but they need to rely on more tool calling and APIs for standard products that shouldn’t ever be wrong like a Coke Zero and use AI only where it can’t find an answer. Just poorly engineered as a whole, you can’t use a probabilistic solution for a deterministic output unless you have many more checks and balances, which clearly Alma doesn’t have unfortunately. Hoping to find a better app, but will continue using this begrudgingly since I paid for it.

**Developer response:** Sorry you had such a difficult experience with this. We dug into the Coke Zero issue, fixed it, and emailed you directly. You should never feel trapped in a subscription that is not working for you. Reply to our email and we’ll help you with a refund.

Alma 4.0 is coming in the next couple of weeks with major improvements to tracking speed and accuracy.

### 1/5 — Read this before you subscribe

*2026-08-01*

One star. The core feature works badly, and everything around it breaks weekly, sometimes, daily.

I subscribed for Apple Health sync. It did not work at all for my first week. After I reported it, it started working — badly. Data arrives out of sync and doesn't reconcile. In a nutrition tracker, unreliable data is worse than no data: you don't know to correct what you don't know is wrong.

More than a dozen bug reports in seven days, every one confirmed legitimate by support. AI memory failures. Food logged silently as nothing. Identical foods identified differently between entries. Wrong items logged outright.

And every update fixed something while breaking something else. After one release the keyboard vanished from chat entry after a single message, unrecoverable, in a flow I'd been using heavily the day before. That is not an early product finding its footing — that's regression in production on core paths, week after week.

$99 a year to be an unpaid QA channel. The founder answers personally and extended my trial when I escalated, which I'll credit honestly. Responsiveness isn't reliability.

Know what you’re typing into. This is an AI product built around a chat assistant, and it prompts for health details — hydration, digestion, MEDICATIONS, GLP-1 use — as advertised features. Per their own terms, support personnel can access user data. Worth noting: bug reports here are capped at 500 characters, and mine were resolved without anyone ever asking me a follow-up question or for steps to reproduce. Draw your own conclusion about how much of your session they’re looking at, and read the terms before you enter anything sensitive.

Skip it for now.

**Developer response:** Kemer, you joined during a major release and hit an unusually concentrated set of bugs. We have since fixed the issues you formally submitted and tightened our release process.

We investigated your reports using the information you submitted and the limited account context described in our terms. We take privacy seriously, answered your questions directly, and provided the information you requested privately. The product experience you described was poor. The suggestion of undisclosed access is not an accurate description of how those reports were handled.

### 1/5 — Membership

*2026-07-27, version 2.8.1*

Great app but Changing to a full paid membership with no announcement made me stop using it and switch apps.

### 1/5 — Shady

*2026-07-21, version 2.8.0*

So I have to update and suddenly is a paid version and if I don’t want to pay I can’t access my data? Great way to go. STOP SUBSCRIPTION LIFE!!! If it was one time payment I would have actually accepted it. I hate what you all doing to our lives with this subscriptions for everything.

### 1/5 — Used for 9 month and booted

*2026-06-29, version 2.5.1*

I’ve been using this app for 9 months. The app updated and now everything is behind a pay wall and I can’t use it unless I pay $19/month. So disappointed.

### 1/5 — Was a Good tracker

*2026-06-27, version 2.5.0*

After using the app for more than 6 months, it suddenly is forcing me to pay for a membership. What gives?

Before…
I’ve used a different tracker for years and have switched to Alma the past several months. Really like the ability to scan bar codes, generally find the searches to be accurate, although I still spend a fair amount of time fixing macros. The health score is my favorite part of the app. The AI generated pictures are laughable. For a protein powder, a mouth with an eyeball in it was generated! Are you kidding me?

### 1/5 — All Premium Now?

*2026-06-26, version 2.5.0*

I can’t believe the latest update removes the free tier! I’ve been using Alma for over a year and am disappointed to see all features behind a paywall now. So disappointed.

### 1/5 — Não oferece nada gratuito!

*2026-05-19*

**Developer response:** Oi! Entendemos a frustração.

### 1/5 — Could not get past first page to add my info

*2026-04-02, version 1.49.0*

This app did not work on my iphone 16. So I gave up.

### 1/5 — Can’t log in with iCloud hide my email

*2025-10-24*

Never receive the initial email with log in link. Chat says Apple doesn’t like Alma’s domain bona fides. Deleted app.

**Developer response:** Hey Greg, sounds like you’ve been hearing good things and were ready to dive in, only to get blocked at the door. That sucks. One star feels a bit harsh, but fair enough. Just email us at mango@alma.food and we’ll make sure you get in. You deserve to see what all the fuss is about.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

Nice help to start eating healthier and keep track of what you eat. Feedback gets implemented very fast and bugs were fixed same day.

### 5/5 — Worth giving it a try

*2026-07-28, version 2.8.1*

I was searching for a long time for an app to accurately calculate my food intake using just voice or a photo. I was literally about to create my own system or even an app like Alma :) until I discovered this amazing app.

### 5/5 — Finally found it nutrition app that I’d like

*2026-07-28*

I found Alma that pure chance. I’ve been using a lot of nutrition apps over the last couple of years. Try to find one that I like. What I really liked about Alma was the fact that it can connect to clot AI. That was a game changer for me. Now, at the end of the day, I got Claude and get all my information. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a nutrition app.

**Developer response:** So glad you found us. Love hearing that the Claude connection was the game changer.

### 5/5 — Jen

### 5/5 — Proactive Team

*2026-07-27, version 2.8.1*

They were proactive from the start, kept me informed throughout the entire process, and maintained complete transparency with my incident until it was fully resolved. I really appreciated their communication, professionalism, and commitment to making sure the issue was addressed. Excellent customer support

### 5/5 — Excellent Nutrition Coach App

*2026-07-25, version 2.8.1*

I have tried many nutrition apps out there and this is by far the best one out there. A great combination of AI insights and extremely simple logging. Plus the integration with AI tools means you can connect it with other data that you have

### 5/5 — Positive Review

*2026-07-19*

Really such an awesome app. Have been using it since October 2025 and it has helped me a lot to understand the way i should fuel my body in prep for events like half marathons and just daily training sessions. Would highly recommend getting the app and to incorporate it in your daily routine (tracking your food consumption etc).
Thanks for building up such an amazing app! Works awesome with my Garmin watch as well!

**Developer response:** This means a lot. Helping you fuel half marathons and everyday training is exactly the kind of real-life support we want Alma to provide. So glad the Garmin connection is working well for you, and thanks for being with us since October!
