The number app has sounds. So this is a big frustration. Hopefully it gets restored. However the "game" with each letter does not reinforce phonetic principles and is often loosely connected to the letter itself (j is for join and w for whack). Just make sure the switch is not showing orange (for off). On the iPad, this is the bell icon found in the Control Center. We are pretty sure that will fix your issue. The app is also clunky in that it doesn’t guide the user on what to do after an activity is completed. Waste of our money and my preschooler is bummed. **Developer response:** Check out the latest version of AlphaTots. We completely remastered the app to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of one of our earliest hits! ### 1/5 — Not worth the price *2017-08-03, version 2.75* I feel that I got bamboozled for paying $3 for this app. I read an overview & recommendation of a few websites that noted that this app was good. It was good but after one time through the alphabet , my daughter mastered it and was bored. The games & associated letter does not change. I agree with the other reviewer that this is a 0.99 cent app at best. I wish I read that review before I purchased it. ### 1/5 — Not worth it. *2017-05-10, version 2.75* You don't get much for your $3. This is a $0.99 app at best. The activities are simple and very short. The letter sounds aren't always complete or accurate (x for example!?) and the "game" afterward doesn't sufficiently reinforce the letter learning. Don't waste your money and time me. ### 1/5 — Not a good way to teach letters! *2015-01-06, version 2.72* I am very disappointed with this app. I was so excited to get it because we love TallyTots. This way of teaching letters to kids is confusing. The sound of each letter is connected to a verb not a noun. So my kid is supposed to learn that F says FFFFF while fixing a bike. Or that K is for Kick while playing with a soccer ball. How confusing for a little one that the letter sound does not match the item they are looking at!! ### 1/5 — Great concept wrong context *2013-10-29, version 2.2* While the idea of getting kids involved in learning, the vocab represented by each letter are mostly verbs. My 2 yo is slowly grasping his ABCs and learning phonics and he questions why the C card has balloons as he can't seem to picture that C is for "cut". He knows what cutting is. If there were scissors, he would understand better. Another example will be the F card. It asks to "fix the bicycle". We can't see fix and my 4yo (who is already familiar with alphabets and phonics) asked if the narrator meant to say "assemble". Similarly, my 2 yo can't understand why J has a train running on a track. While it is easy for an adult to comprehend, a young kid learning his ABCs may require extra explanation how the word fits into the context as he doesn't automatically see it. Perhaps revise the vocab or emphasize important details like joining the track vs details on the train chugging through. Have a scissors to cut balloon strings with, and fix one part of a bicycle like the flat tyre only. I really regretted my purchase. ### 2/5 — Not optimized for the iPhone 11 *2020-09-02* My toddler still loves it but it’s not optimized for my iPhone 11. The graphics don’t always fit on the screen. It bothers me more than my kid, that’s for sure. Hopefully it will get an update soon. **Developer response:** Today is the day! AlphaTots turns 10 this year and we are releasing a complete remaster. I hope you like the improvements. ### 2/5 — Annoying hold to tap feature *2016-06-22, version 2.72* The app doesn't let kids change letters whenever they want unless they hold down a letter for several seconds. She loves it! It’s very easy to use. There’s features that stop her from “button mashing” the app. There are fine motor skills and problem solving puzzles. There’s also Colours and shapes and more.
