### 4/5 — Cute concept. Bit dated.

*2024-12-21, version 1.6.0*

As I understand it, this is a copy-paste of a computer game from the 1980s—but as such, there are some features that don’t quite align with 21st-century values:
- very pro corporal punishment
- very heteronormative—just flat-out doesn’t acknowledge that LGBT+ people exist
- some events, without necessarily needing to be, are written differently depending on the player character’s sex (there’s one in the Infancy stage that, if you’re a girl, you’re pulling all the cards out of mom’s purse, but for boys it’s taking apart dad’s calculator)

If there was a game that was just like this but more in line with modern sensibilities, it would be un-put-down-able.

### 3/5 — LGBTQ+ OPTIONS PLEASEEEEEEE

*2024-10-02, version 1.6.0*

How in 15 years do you guys not add the option to be gay? It would be an interesting choice to make in the game that could happen in adolescence, or maybe just randomly. It’s not super taboo to be gay anymore, please make it happen

### 4/5 — Please UPDATE

*2022-04-24, version 1.5.2*

Please update the user interface. Add more options? Please I’ve loved this game since I found it on the internet when I was in elementary school

### 3/5 — A five star app that was not updated through numerous ports.

*2021-09-26*

Normally I allow the gaming convention of ‘let it rest in the museum as created’ for most dated works, and appreciate them in accounting for time of their inception.
In this case though, as it is a text-based game, and more importantly is set as an ‘alter ego’ of what a modern child could be experiencing growing up, the choices are to note the actual dates or to modernize the material. I’ll drop a few suggestions below:
➡️A college degree can come from multiple disciplines and have multiple levels of mastery.
➡️Financial models need to be redone. (Eg you can bust your tail, become a doctor or lawyer before even reaching young adulthood, then be expected to pay your loan balances in full before hitting the next ‘stage’ of growth.
➡️No reason not to have full-spectrum personalities, preferences and identities here, seeing as how the game tries to flesh out exactly who you can become.

I hope someone can tackle this and either update or reboot this franchise, since it’s a cool and mostly unique idea. ✌🏻

### 3/5 — Why do I have be straight

*2021-05-15, version 1.5.2*

Why do you have to be cis and straight

### 5/5 — 1980’s

*2021-02-13, version 1.5.2*

I had this exact game on a floppy disk for my Commodore 64 when I was a kid. I loved it then and I love it now.

### 4/5 — Great! But..

*2021-01-22, version 1.5.2*

This game is overall great and fun to play, but I feel like more variety and more updates are needed. Besides that this is a heartwarming, fun game! And I’d suggest it to my friends!

### 4/5 — This app might make you feel Anxiety!

*2020-12-14, version 1.5.2*

Okay at first the game might of fell unnatural but it’s alright at once you get the hang of it.

### 4/5 — I love it but...

*2020-09-09, version 1.5.2*

it’s just very heteronormative :/

### 5/5 — Get alter ego

*2020-06-11, version 1.5.2*

It’s the best game I have ever known. It’s like living your childhood all over again. My kids love it even more than I do. Once an hour they come running into the room shouting about how much they love alter ego. I have always been a fan of alter. ego so I was over joyed when they said momma can we get alter ego. I highly recommend getting alter ego.

### 4/5 — Great way to pass time

*2020-04-30*

This game is a questions based RPG life simulator game. The questions can seem a bit dated since it feels like it was written in the 90’s but its still overall a fun game with multiple outcomes. Some scenarios like going to college could be more fun if they made college driven scenarios instead of just clicking that section 12 (!) times to count as having gone to class. But overall its a solid game that is worth the 5 bucks. Would love if this was animated, and allowed you to choose your characters and see some of this stuff illustrated.

### 5/5 — This game is amazing!!

*2020-03-31, version 1.5.2*

Absolutely wonderful game, the only problem I have with it is that the life stages are a it short. I enjoy this game a lot and play it often!

### 3/5 — Awesome game, but...

*2020-03-29, version 1.5.2*

Could you please make the option to play all life events for each stage if someone would like to? Not would be really dope to have that option, rather than being forced into the next life stage before all events can be experienced. I understand that this might be missing the point of the game, but it would add to the experience for some players such as myself.

### 3/5 — LOVE the writing

*2020-02-14*

I absolutely love the writing and choice options in this game. Everything is connected to something and it's always fun and new experience. The only reason I am rating this so low at 3 stars is there is no way to view previous lives. I would love to see info of what age each of my characters died, how they died, and a short eulogy about them and their achievements. That really makes or breaks the game for me. I am finding that I am not motivated to continue playing because each time I die it restarts without being able to see a history of my characters.

### 5/5 — Superbe

*2019-12-20*

Un jeux magnifique, tout en douceur et en délicatesse, beaucoup d’émotions

### 5/5 — Back button?

*2019-11-17*

I enjoy the game very much. I appreciate it’s good balance of sound advice. I highly appreciated the sexual content notice. Sometimes I do wish there was a back button, so it’s nice it is listed on some options such as leave this icon and don’t do anything. Even if it was just to view the previous screen again, that would be nice. Perhaps, bookmarks to go back from a certain specific point.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This game needs an update badly

*2026-02-12, version 1.6.0*

I’ve played this game since the 2010s and after it was bought out the only update it had was to be iOS acceptable.

I would hope a small team would play this game and start editing outcomes and adding new content.

If not then I’d like a refund on what I bought since it’s more or less a dead game

### 1/5 — Not too good.

*2019-07-23, version 1.5.2*

Honestly, the game is a bit annoying. You pass through each stage of life much too quickly, leaving you wishing and unfulfilled with any character you play. The game is also annoying in the fact that almost any fun choice can kill you, yet it criticizes you if you don’t choose those options. Trying to have a character you actually enjoy can just end up leaving them dead at a much too early age.

### 1/5 — DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

*2018-12-10, version 1.5.2*

It’s corny

### 1/5 — Boring

*2018-09-24, version 1.5.2*

They need to take a look at Instlife for a way superior version of this game. This game is slow moving with no excitement or humour. Would not recommend. A waste of money ☹️

### 1/5 — No gay or even bi

*2016-12-18*

I like it but why cant i be gay

### 1/5 — Sexist, inconsistent, expensive

*2015-01-31*

This is really just an exercise in gender stereotypes and sexism disguised as a text based role-playing game.
There is little room for variables or for thinking outside the box.
It's repetitive and lacking in combining choices -- which makes it a complete and utter rip off.
AVOID!!

### 1/5 — Not Impressed.

*2014-05-24*

The idea of a text based Sims style game intrigued me but, overall I was very disappointed with this. The game does give you some interesting descisions to make, yet thay have very little impact on your characters life. It ends up becoming boring and no fun whatsoever.

Its way over-priced at£2.99 as well.

### 1/5 — Upset

*2012-06-13*

I can't update the app because it requires iOS 5. I think I might have to delete this app so that stupid update notification will go away :(

### 2/5 — Not enough diversity

*2025-03-27*

I used to play this game when I was younger on the computer. I downloaded the game because I thought there would have been expansive upgrades to it after some time but I was pretty disappointed that there really wasn’t. There is no diversity in the game. A lot of the people described are blonde with blue eyes. Furthermore, it doesn’t include the LGBTQ+ community. It would be nice to go through a phase where you’re trying to understand your sexuality or gender identity. I did just read their About page & I will check out the other choice of games to see if there is something more for what I’m looking for.

### 2/5 — LGBT

*2022-04-21, version 1.5.2*

the game is fun but it is not inclusive. i wish i had homosexual options

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — A Beautiful Tragedy

*2026-02-22*

A masterpiece that showcases the beauty of life but also how extremely tragic it can be. The storyline can be very unpredictable and the game has immense replay-ability. A bargain for the price.

### 5/5 — AMAZING

*2025-04-03, version 1.6.0*

Most amazing game in the world that you have to play at least once! Always updated and supported! BETTER THAN BITLIFE NO ADS

### 5/5 — Too epic 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

*2024-04-16*

5 star

### 5/5 — Love this game!

*2023-07-25*

I always come back to this game and binge it for months at a time. I wish that you didn’t get a turn counted when you click on a category like “work” and back out that it didn’t count as a turn. Same with experiences that you end up being too old for or can’t do cause a parent is dead. Wish the game got occasional updates too. Overall I will always keep playing!

### 5/5 — Old school for the new crew!

*2023-06-29, version 1.6.0*

Love it love it love it! Had it on 5 1/4 floppy’s back in the day(if I remember right, box opened like a ‘piece of vinyl’) anyway, ‘life simulator’ where you actually care about the choices you make and the person you become. One caveat, especially for younger generation(I’m 49), lots of reading….I love reading what the impact my choices actually make but it’s as much a story as a ‘sim’. 6 star!!

### 5/5 — Heartwarming and Entertaining

*2023-04-21*

The game has a few quirks. It was made in the 80s, so many situations haven’t aged perfectly. Some parts of the game, like relationships, seem odd or buggy (you might randomly break up with your partner without the game ever informing you if you date in adolesence).

However, playing to the end is a joy if you take it seriously. I shed a few tears the first time from the ending text, which is something I can’t say other life simulators can do. You feel more connected to these scenarios since they’re more detailed than is typical.

Good for a few playthroughs before you’ve seen most of the content. I’d say it’s worth the price.

### 5/5 — New Idea

*2022-11-19*

I really love your game! It was the first one ever of its kind back then! I think you can revive! People will 100% like it since BitLife is super popular and uses a similar growing up theme! But this game has so much potential!! You could redesign it and keep a lot of the same stuff but make it more inclusive with race, gender, and sexuality! You could have more choices added that lead to different life’s and careers! And when the player dies you can make the children continue the game similar to BitLife! You could add more pictures and graphics for events/life choices to make it more user friendly! You could add more customization for characters and abilities that can be purchased! You could add more control or not, over other characters in the players life! And after this one gets updated overtime you could even create a whole new game similar concept and mechanics but a different theme like in medieval times! Or in the future! There’s many things that can be done to improve it and make it popular! Meanwhile I’ll continue to play the game!

### 5/5 — Love love love

*2022-06-23, version 1.5.2*

Been playing this game on the browser for almost two decades, decided to finally pull the trigger and buy it for my phone. Such a good game! I think about it a lot even though it has been a while since my last play.

### 5/5 — Been playing this for 5 years now

*2021-05-31*

I originally played the free version online but the limitations of the free version slowed me down and I enjoyed the game so much I finally purchased it.
It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Such a wonderful game, highly recommend it to anyone.

### 5/5 — LOVE this game, but...

*2021-02-26*

Okay, so I’ve played this game about a dozen times. I’d say it’s less “addictive” than well written enough to give you room to explore different lives while retaining its replay value. It’s a solid game and I personally love a good life simulator like this one.
One thing that stood out to me from the start was the lack of LGBT options. As a lesbian, this pulls me out of the gameplay experience every time. Do I choose an entire lifetime of male experiences in order to have a love life that includes women? Or do I choose a life of female experiences and accept that the entire romantic dimension of the game will center around men? More than once I’ve ended the game a spinster.
I don’t think the game needs a “modern LGBT twist”. I think it would be vastly improved even if it remained nearly the same, but with options down the road to choose partners of different genders, choose pronouns, come out as a specific sexuality, change names, and options to come out as transgender (with the gameplay literally switching from “Male script” to “Female script”, or vice versa), with specific characters responding accordingly.
Adding LGBT options just means more immersive gameplay for more people than you might think, and I feel it would vastly improve the game for players like me!
