Drive the speed limit and it’ll lower your score for speeding. Speed, and it won’t notice. Keep your phone in the glove box the whole ride? Too bad, your email folder automatically updated so you get dinged for 3 minutes of texting and driving, because it’s not programmed to know the difference. This is quite possibly the worst app I have ever used in my life. ### 1/5 — Incorrect information gathered *2026-01-08, version 1.0.1* I downloaded this app today and used it for two trips. Both said I was on my phone over 2 minutes. Simply untrue. Not even hands free. So I don’t understand the point of running an app that doesn’t work. Showing that I am using my phone while driving could in the future affect my insurance even though it doesn’t at the moment. ### 1/5 — Not reliable (no joke) *2026-01-03, version 1.0.1* Okay, i’ve been sceptical about this app just from the reviews alone but after using it since i started my insurance with AMA its a total mess. Its docking me points for “context” and “phone usage” doesn’t explain in the app what either of those things mean or how i get docked points for them, i use my phone as a dash cam and a music player, however if i remotely touch my phone or get into my car EVEN WHEN THE IGNITION IS OFF, and Im on my phone I’m docked points. If i get a call and i use hands free I’m still docked points for phone usage even though hands free shouldn’t count. when I’m docked points for “braking hard” sometimes it makes sense but the app doesn’t acknowledge when other drivers on the road are disrespectful or when a yellow light comes on. Basically if you brake hard at all it will dock you points. Cornering is flimsy as well, i will take the same corner or turn at the same speed and get a different score every time. This app is a mess and a total failure, AMA needs to get their heads of of their heinies, and remake the whole app from the ground up, and i know for a fact even if they say they are “non profit” they can afford to get a professional and remake the app. If AMA is going to give us a discount for using this garbage app, the least they could do is make it reliable and have it be honest scoring. ### 1/5 — Absolutely nonsense *2025-12-30, version 1.0.1* This app is absolutely broken. I am not using my phone while driving, yet every single trip I get penalized for “phone usage” just because I’m streaming music. The phone is mounted, untouched, and I’m driving normally — but the app still gives me a garbage score every time. That makes zero sense. If streaming music counts as phone use, then this app is fundamentally flawed and completely unreliable. You’re punishing safe drivers for normal, hands-free behavior that every modern driver does. A scoring system that can’t tell the difference between actively using a phone and background music playback is not just inaccurate — it’s unfair and misleading. Fix your detection logic, because right now this app cannot be taken seriously at all. ### 1/5 — False readings *2025-12-04, version 1.0.1* Says I was using my phone while driving enough though I didn’t even take it out of my pocket. It also says I’m speeding when I’m not. I was doing 20km under the speed limit and it said I was speeding ### 1/5 — Lots of errors *2025-08-28, version 1.0.1* This app regularly reports that I’ve used my phone while driving when I haven’t. When you check the map, it will say I’ve used my phone after I’ve entered a store on foot or entered my own home— not while driving. It doesn’t make the distinction between phone use inside a moving vehicle and when you’re not. ### 1/5 — Sent multiples feedback emails, no answer *2025-08-16, version 1.0.1* I have send them multiple feedback emails about constant problems within the app. First, every time I start or finish my trip, it kicks me with phone use, when I’m clearly not driving. It doesn’t identify the proper use of the phone in movement. One time my gps seemed to go crazy, and made a trip for 1 minute with an extreme acceleration and extreme hard braking through buildings and give me 10 in score!! Today I got “cornering” at 21 when I was taking a round exit 🤣 This app cannot be worse. The developers did a badly and poor job making this and ama seems to not care at all. They just want to track you to god know why with the excuse of getting cheaper insurance. The secret(?) at least you can change the bad scores to “passenger” so it doesn’t affect the overall score if you have a good one :) ### 1/5 — Stopped working *2025-07-29, version 1.0.1* Turned it off when I was a passenger on a road trip. The app is extremely resource hungry, and the indication of cell phone usage is nothing but hoax. When I parked my car and walked into a mall, it flagged me minutes of cell phone usage. Now I installed the app into another phone and just kept it in my pocket, it still indicated the same. CONSTANTLY. Developers, don’t you feel ashamed when developing such a ridiculous app to help insurance companies gouging people? If you don’t, let me tell you flat. Nailed for distracted driving while fuelling up and parked in a car wash. And taking a corner too fast at 20km/hr and on and on👎👎 ### 1/5 — Battery drain and login issues *2024-05-28, version 1.0.0* I won’t mention the battery drain as it seems to be a common theme with pretty much every review. Functionally, it needs a lot of work. Doesn’t always pick up a drive, yes I’m logged in and all the settings are correct, tags you for speed when when doing the speed limit. Usually when there’s a change to a faster speed. Maps and information need to be updated. Another big issue is I can’t log in on a different phone when I switch phones. What’s the point of creating a username and password when you can’t login on a different phone when you switch or upgrade to a different device? On the old device, no issues at all when logging out and back in, but on a new device, getting the username or password is incorrect warning. When trying to reset password on new device, getting “something went wrong”. Please fix this issue. I know I’m not the only one who switches devices from time to time. I don’t want to carry around two devices just to log my drives. ### 1/5 — Inaccurate information *2024-04-06, version 1.0.0* I am a professional driver and my route is pretty defined day in and day out. Today I noticed a pretty significant glitch, the app created a route which was different from my factual route. My bus is equipped with monitoring devices and is video surveillances. Not only did the app have me on the wrong path, but it also said I had such an extreme acceleration that it reported a poor score. It also said that I made a right turn where that acceleration happened, however I drove straight through the intersection after being stopped at a red light. Furthermore the app has signalled ‘distracted driving’ even though my phone was in my personal bag in my cargo hold. My bus pings my company for the same items AMA MyRide is monitoring, however, I do not understand how the AMA app works when company surveillance, client surveillance and the governor keep me super accountable. AMA you need to fix this app, it is awful! It’s is so flawed! ### 1/5 — Too inaccurate *2024-03-11, version 1.0.0* Thought I’d try this but probably going to opt out if immediate changes aren’t made. Pulled over to take a call and it said distracted driving, made a call from a parking lot after I had parked, same thing. One trip showed excessive braking, I just pulled up to a stop sign normally. Tried contacting support email but no response. ### 1/5 — OPT OUT OF THIS SERVICE! *2026-07-19, version 4.6.3* Got dinged as “phone in use” while leaving a store in a parking lot not even in my car. I was checking a message then entering my next location. Deducted point for this. Payed for coffee with phone app. Dinged again for phone use. 2 times because it entered power save mode. Pulled over to eat lunch in my car and doom scroll for a couple min before starting off again…can you guess what? That’s right registering me using my phone while driving…. I drive professionally for work, I have a spotless driving record because I follow every road rule…this app says I’m a habitual phone user in the car. Not only is this inaccurate, but also misleading to the insurance provider. Little issues like this allows the insurance to be adjusted from bad information. After almost 2 hours on the phone to get answers it lead me to sending an email…after reading reviews seems that was a waste of time. It says there is an issue. I tried logging out of my account and logging back in, and it will not let me back into my account. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and that still didn’t work. The app is the biggest piece of garbage often saying I’m driving when I am walking to my car. First off the person on the phone didn’t even tell me I had to tell them I wanted the app and register for it so I could get the discount then I had to call back a second time and have them walk me through it. I’ve gone on two trips already, and it says you have not made any trips. I’ve gone to their health page and that doesn’t even work. This app is a piece of garbage. ### 1/5 — Dings u for phone use when stopped *2026-03-06, version 1.0.1* I do a lot of driving for work. I pull over to use my phone and it pings me for phone use even though I am doing what you’re supposed to do. I’ll also get out of my car and walk around while using my phone and it still thinks I’m driving and again says I’m using my phone while driving. It should recognize the difference between being stopped and using your phone and driving and using your phone. ### 1/5 — App needs work, for sure *2026-02-20, version 1.0.1* Overall, I don’t hate concept of the app. It gives me decent feedback about some of my driving habits, like my braking and acceleration, that I correlate with my fuel mileage and try to improve on. However, I hate that there’s a requirement to have so many privacy, location, and motion things active ALL THE TIME instead of choosing ‘while using app’ options. The app literally recorded me as driving while I was walking across the street leaving from work. There’s no way to change the drive start time to reflect that, even though the map shows an impossible route for my vehicle to have gone…. Across sidewalks. Before even reaching the parked vehicle. ## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated) ### 4/5 — Update *2022-09-24, version 1.0.0* So the app registers that I’m driving now, but not every trip. Also got dinged for distracted driving, but I was hands free so I feel like that shouldn’t count? Didn’t even touch my phone to pick up the call. ### 2/5 — Huge drain on battery and inaccurate *2024-05-04, version 1.0.0* You have to have location always on and it drains the battery in like half a day. I also don’t know what I did wrong when it marks down my driving. ### 2/5 — Consumes most of battery sometimes *2024-02-21, version 1.0.0* I appreciate the exchange of info for a credit (for good social behaviour), but this app is often the leading consumer of battery energy. It seems like there is a bug somewhere. I have to terminate the app to get normal remaining time on my phone. Btw, once it reported that we (myself as a passenger in a van) were on a train despite not being anywhere near train tracks of any sort. ### 2/5 — Needs work *2023-11-07, version 1.0.0* Overall it’s not bad but I’ve reached my destination, been out of the car for >2 minutes before using my phone and I still get penalized for distracted driving because it hasn’t ended the trip yet. Also, I’d love to understand how the ‘cornering’ is calculated because there is no way I can possibly make turns any slower without becoming a hazard to everyone else on the road - have tried everything but still end up between 94 and 96 every time. ### 2/5 — Needs upgrades *2023-08-31, version 1.0.0* It should not track my phone usage as distracted driving while i am the passenger in a vehicle, and the trip times need to be uploaded quicker. It’s showing distracted driving when I was PARKED in a parking lot and using hands free Bluetooth for a telephone call. It shows one long trip, and doesn’t show time between trips.
