## What is Amagama?

Is your child struggling to read? Amagama introduces 100 of the most frequently used words in context, so your child is instantly reading without having to memorise each word in isolation. It is a fun memory matching game suitable for all learning types as it is multi-sensory.

Give your child the gift of reading. Sight words are found in over 70% of chiildren’s literature. Instant recognition of words leads to fluency, understanding and most importantly, builds confidence in your child’s own reading ability.

HOW AMAGAMA WORKS

Which is easier to remember?
I children the at look. These are five random high frequency words which are traditionally taught in isolation. (Usually five a week.) You need to remember what you see and what you hear. Then you have to remember which word that you saw belongs with which one of the words you remember hearing. Not at all easy.
However, introducing the five words in context-I look at the children is so easy to remember. During the word matching game, the sentence is always visible. As each word is turned over, there are a number of hooks to help your child read. No need to know each word. There are auditory clues-the word is repeated when matched; visual clues-you can see the sentence so you can ‘read’ each word as the card is turned. Pointing to each word helps tactile learners. Each word in the sentence has a different shape which makes it easier to distinguish. As it’s a multi-sensory way of learning, your child will have the opportunity to learn in the way he naturally succeeds.

WHY AMAGAMA WORKS

Amagama has twenty 5-word sentences taken from the first 120 most often used words. Once the twenty sentences are learnt, your child will know 100 sight words. Looking at a page and instantly recognising familiar words helps ease your child into the wonderful world of reading.

IT’S AMAGAMA TIME
Check that you have the sound on
Choose a sentence
Let the fun begin!
Turn two words at a time. When the words are a match, it is said aloud. Find all the words in the sentence.
If you’ve already found a word from the sentence, you’ll feel a slight vibration.
Practice finding the sentence again with the rest of the words.
Keep track of your score.

REWARDS

Obviously practice makes perfect. Try to encourage your child to repeat the same sentence by suggesting a score which will earn a reward, which you decide with your child beforehand.
Please bear in mind that amagama allows children to make their own learning decisions. I believe the best lesson learned is the one discovered on your own. So, dangle the carrot, but support and respect the decisions made on your child’s learning journey.

A huge thanks to Kenney Vleugels (www.kenney.nl) for the wonderful animal designs and to talented Paul Dobbe for the backing music-more of his music is available on Apple Music. To the developer, grateful thanks for making my dream a reality.
