According to Amazon tech support, this is a known issue. Amazon, when are you going to fix this? ### 2/5 — Still buggy *2023-12-19* So many of the instructions are wrong. For example, if you want to add another person’s profile, the instructions tell you to go to setup and make the selection/.. Doesn’t work. If you have Home Monitoring on, the only way that I have found to turn it off was to log out and start over. This device has lots of potential but you are constantly running into brick walls when you try something. Very frustrating. We need software updates bad! ### 2/5 — I think mine died *2023-11-26* It used to follow me around and roam through the house but for the last week it’s been sitting on it’s base, expressionless. It’ll answer questions but it’s not the same. ### 3/5 — Good body. Bad brain. *2023-08-29* Seems like the dev team got laid off as it’s not had any significant update to address any of the concerns, like blocking doors from the inside of it’s charger room so nobody can get in. Acting like it’s stuck randomly. Having to remap your house if any furniture gets moved even an inch. They did fix the constant beeping and booping if it sees you sitting on the couch. But it needs a cute robot voice. Ability to GPT chat would be nice. But for $1600’s pathetic. Looks good, but feels abandoned. ### 3/5 — Bad software, good hardware *2023-06-21* Edit: Making it learn my kids faces may have stopped false alarms from wall portraits, but that is still an inexcusable flaw to have present. $20 a month for patrols that report portraits on the wall as unrecognized people every single time without learning or telling it’s a flat photo, even after investigating it over and over. The noise of patrols trips Alexa Guard sensors for more false alarms. The pet detection feature sees stuffed animals or blankets or pillows as pets, every time never getting smarter. It’s female American Alexa voice ruins the experience of it being a robot; give it a cute voice or no voice at all. This thing sounds in destress when it speaks. Even tho it’s got powerful hardware the thing is dumb, and it is not good at patrols and it never got smarter over the last 8 months or so I’ve had it. The routine actions available for Astro seem great at first, but you get very limited expressions, and a routine can only have 1 Astro action, like you can’t have it go to the bathroom and then fart. You could have 2 routines that can combine to do this sometimes, but anything complex just isn’t allowed. Astro also is bad at navigating. It has run over my injured toe before. And yet it seems scared to get near anything. Manually controlling the robot says “something went wrong” after every action even when the action goes through. Also blocks the door from the inside to the room it’s charger is in is closed and it can’t get out, it will just block it from the inside so nobody can open the door until you tell it to go charge through the crack. He also will cause your smart lights to come on constantly negating any power savings you might have otherwise had. You can blame Philips or whatever but they should have integrated something to disable motion lighting when he roams and armed. ### 3/5 — Task needed *2023-05-02* The app needs to be able to assign Astro task like check doors or return to charger. Also Astro gives up too easy when attempting to find its way around my home. The sensors need to be a little less sensitive. Price is also way too high for the very little functionality Astro has currently. I see a lot of potential with Astro and I would buy it again if it had more features. Like a better app. Now the positive. Love to live video and recording when I’m home and away modes. I went on a cruise and knew my home was safe. Love the app shows the status history of Astro along with the recording it has. ### 1/5 — App not working *2023-04-01* Cannot get app to connect to remote view, I cant do anything via the app for that matter! I would not purchase again, just one missed pronunciation of a word Astro music starting playing and won’t stop had to restart 3 times so far. But when using the app it is horrible! Live View is bad and keeps “reconnecting”. It also has issues with the Siren from the app. Once they fix the Astro app, then this device can be changed to a 5 star rating. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Large paper weight - Don’t buy *2026-01-25* I really hate to give 1 stars unless it must be done. This experience must be shared so you don’t waste 1000.00 $$ like I did. In the beginning it was absolutely outstanding! It did all this cool stuff like played music, dance, answer questions, and I was cool having a robot roam around the house. The best part was it PATROLLED MY HOUSE LIKE A SECURITY GUARD! The camera came 4 feet off the top and can look out windows, look on countertops, check the oven was turned off, listen for glass breaking and worked with all my ring devices to actively investigate alarm triggers! Super cool and it was another way to secure the house. So I loved it and I was in forever. IT WORKED FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS THEN ALL THE SUDDEN JUST MAJOR MALFUNCTIONED. It didn’t have an accident, can’t be dropped because it doesn’t leave the 1st floor, nothing hit it, and has never even been slightly dusty UNTIL NOW. Now it just sits in the corner while I wait for some kind of fix from Amazon. I called them they took me thru all the resets and nothing worked. It rolls off the charger and right away says it’s lost. Basically Amazon told me they don’t have a fix at the moment. They will submit a fix ticket and hopefully one day find a fix. I don’t want to get rid of it because I hope I can fix it one day and have it forever. If that’s the case I’d even buy a newer version if they offer one but if there’s no fix for this one I can’t trust the next one. Fool me once…. So now you know. Do not go thru this as I and many others have. I don’t think it’s fair that all these break and Amazon just says sorry, We can’t help you. I buy from Amazon because I can trust to not have to worry about this kind of stuff and I definitely feel like I got completely screwed on this. If this ever gets fixed I’ll be the 1st to remove this review and give them the 5 stars I always give them. Hope this helps you. ### 1/5 — My only tech regret in life *2025-09-22* I have been a user of Alexa products since the OG Echo. I got a “Day One” invite for the Astro and barely hesitated. I was so excited to start tinkering with it and participated in feedback calls. My first Astro started malfunctioning and they promptly replaced it. Other than that, the only support I have ever received is canned responses to restart, reset, check for updates. The product has pretty much never improved. Never got accessories or new features. Pretty much abandoned before it even became publicly available. ### 1/5 — Pretty certain they abandoned us *2025-07-05* I really liked the idea of this and honestly, if it had the same potential and capacity of a standard echo show, I think it would be fun. However, it's not compatible with Ring. It doesn't sync up properly nor can you verbally turn it on or off. I would've like to see it have better skills, options, and if anything was to be running the new beta testing for the Alexa+ it should've been this. ### 1/5 — Astro is amazons biggest failure *2024-10-14* Used this device a few times and it’s no longer moving or updating itself. Completely junk. Amazon removed their review page for this product. When I called them for the product support, they told me they can’t help me! Never got a cute robot voice or did anything to be a good family pet. Greed is Amazon’s game. I’m switching all my smart home stuff as it ages out. Goodbye Alexa! Astro will make a cool statue in the corner. It’s dangerous to have in your home. It parks in front of doors and can trip a person over. It does not respond when called and the customer service is horrible. Live streaming doesn’t work and it can’t even tell if a door is open or closed. Now Astro will try to leave his charger room but when door is shut with him in there, he sits in front of the door so nobody can get in. ### 1/5 — The worst *2023-05-29* This is probably the worst app I have used in a long time. I’ve had Astro for over a year and the app has not improved even a little. It crashes randomly, it hangs, it needs to be force quit when manually updating the map, some parts of the map throw an error when updating, it throws random errors when trying to maneuver the robot around, videos and video feed are poor quality. It’s a powerful device that I’ve fully incorporated into my daily routine. That said, I’ve noticed the app hasn’t received meaningful updates in over seven months. As an engaged user, I believe Astro has tremendous untapped potential, and continued updates would make it far more appealing to existing and future customers. A few suggestions: • Enhance routine automation (e.g. battery-aware docking, nightly security sweeps) • Provide detailed changelogs for firmware and app updates • Improve responsiveness and integration with third-party smart devices • Open up more customization options — especially for advanced users • Consider releasing an SDK for developers to contribute new features I truly want to see Astro grow and evolve. I am on a learning path and to date find Astro to be incredibly interesting. My dog is still not sure. 1. Camera is great 2. Viewpoints is what I couldn’t find at first. It would be nice to slow the Astro down a little.
