### 3/5 — Poor communication

*2026-07-02, version 6.24.0*

Does not deliver as promised due to poor tech support. The app is easy to use and navigate but did not offer a resolution to the communication errors with the battery and when I sort assistance to try and sort it, support was virtually nonexistent. Constant requests to support to assist me were met with little or no resolution and not being able to speak to someone was very frustrating. I eventually returned to my previous provider and with telephone support, was very easy to resolve. Wouldn’t recommend!

### 2/5 — Fantastic when it works

*2026-06-21, version 6.24.0*

In theory, this app and business model is fantastic, but the app is absolutely fraught with glitches. The manual control over the inverter frequently fails to respond. This is really annoying as the algorithm will start selling off your battery to the grid when you’re trying to conserve it for the night. I’ve got better things to do than constantly watch the app to monitor what the system is doing to ensure it is not selling off at negative prices. Automated solar curtailment is glitchy - it will sell your power off at negative one cent or sometimes more. It is impossible to contact anyone unless you want to sign up. Email responses are slow and only blame the inverter companies- the inverter companies blame Amber. No one wants to really help. Software updates have mixed results. Amber, please look after your current customers and fix the app. Please add a function to consume and store battery power for longer than just 2 hours.

### 2/5 — Not very smart

*2026-05-13, version 6.21.0*

I have been using this app now for a couple of months. The app does not automatically charge my battery when the solar feed in is low and the rates are low. I have to do this manually and I have to remember to do it at 10 am each morning. I cannot program it on a schedule. I have to set a manual alarm outside of the APP to do it.

It is supposed to be smart. It is supposed to monitor the weather. It is supposed to charge my battery when rates are cheap and export from my battery when rates are high and it does none of these things. Also, the monthly fees for Amber are up around $50. So it negates a lot of the saving that you make.

### 2/5 — Good in theory, but poor algorithm for battery

*2026-04-26, version 6.20.0*

I found that the app needed substantial improvements to optimise my 11 kw solar and 48 kw battery setup. It overestimated solar production (always), poorly estimated my household demand, leading to poor decisions. It would run out of battery at night, when it could have topped up with extremely cheap power in the daytime. If the algorithm could be improved, I’d possibly switch back to Amber.

### 3/5 — Since downloading the stats seem wrong

*2026-03-21, version 6.17.0*

The battery charge state doesntvseem to brvaccuratebin this version ofbthe spp.

### 2/5 — Dumbshift and terrible customer support

*2026-03-19, version 6.17.0*

Smartshift is designed to lose the user as much money as possible. Consistently for 3 months now, it imports at peak pricing while having ample battery instead of exporting. In these 3 months I produced everyday way more than I use, but my balance is always red in almost everyone of those days.

Big scam

### 3/5 — Support

*2026-03-18, version 6.17.0*

Very hard

### 4/5 — Good but can be better

*2026-03-17, version 6.17.0*

Love a lot of what is going on here with Amber. Some additions that would make the app better would be notifications about when manual control has expired would be good. Longer manual control options would also be nice, I understand that 2 hours is enough for most but not for all. Also a smart scheduling option that allows your system to default to a certain preferred type of control based on the typical use but with Smartshift able to override if spikes are predicted would be useful. I realise I am unique as my battery is predominantly for trading power not for home use, so these are more niche suggestions but I believe more people will look to do this in the future

### 1/5 — App doesn't work at all

*2026-02-24, version 6.16.2*

Rubbish. No customer service to contact. Auto response with AI is very annoying.
Every minute you're wasting your time without resolving the issue costing you money. Be aware.

### 1/5 — Never work

*2026-02-24, version 6.16.2*

Never work as they advertised. Not automatically control my battery. Funny thing is I can’t even manually control my energy dispatch. Disappointed

### 1/5 — Unresponsive app at critical times

*2026-02-07, version 6.15.1*

I lodged email queries in mid November 2025. No reply from the company as at today.
Smartshift made bad decisions regularly. Imported at high prices and I wasn’t able to stop the importing because the app was idling and unresponsive. Cost me big $ for trusting Smartshift. The company needs to lift their game now. We need to see concrete improvement now, not media spins and excuses.

### 3/5 — Two BIG issues

*2026-02-07, version 6.15.1*

The app is very user friendly and easy to use when working properly. However lately it started to be very unreliable with manual commands. I send a command to charge but it doesn’t get to my Sigenergy battery, same with discharge. I have to open my battery app and do it from there, then it happens immediately. The second issue is during peak pricing when you beed it the most the app wouldn’t update and instead would show an error message. Please fix it!

### 2/5 — Not so smart. Needs option to prevent any imports

*2026-02-04, version 6.15.1*

After 6 months of waiting amber finally upgraded the meter, instead of 6 weeks. Have been effectively offgrid for 6 months with no importing any energy. Smart shift has repeatedly tried to import at peak power prices, and to import power to fill the battery (we are usually full by midday and then get charged for the excess.
Smart shift needs a setting to prevent importing power at all - after 6 months i am yet to see a negative buy rate so there is no benefit to importing any power.

If amber provides this option, smart shift may be smarter for australian solar and battery consumers

### 1/5 — Awful

*2026-01-30, version 6.15.1*

Nonexistent customer service. Just another solar scam.

### 1/5 — Rubbish and Fraudulent

*2026-01-07, version 6.13.1*

They advertise that using this app you will achieve the best financial returns from your battery through AI. However, in reality, even with “artificial dumbness” I would expect better results. On most days, the system does not sell the battery’s stored energy, and as a result my electricity bill remains positive, even though my household usage is very low.
It charges 25$ per month for the service which is not working.

### 2/5 — Poor interface with iPhone and iPad

*2025-12-17, version 6.12.2*

I have been with Amber only for a few days. First couple of days it throttled my PV production to almost nothing and consumed most of my battery power. But it seems to be fine today.
However, the screen layouts of the app is extremely poor for both iPhone and iPad. The letters are too large to be accommodated on the screen, you can only see the buttons partially and other stats overlap each other. You can’t not scroll either horizontally or vertically. The app needs redesign for Apple products.

### 1/5 — Pathetic non-existent customer service

*2025-12-17, version 6.12.2*

Warning to only sign up for this service if you want to be held in limbo for weeks while they do nothing.

### 3/5 — Fantastic Concept, Flawed Execution

*2025-12-15, version 6.12.0*

I absolutely love the concept of Amber energy and have seen meaningful bill savings with my battery and solar.

However the app is buggy and automation often gets it wrong and blows out costs.

Frustratingly it’s basically impossible to get a response from their tech support (eg. updating my configuration to work with an inverter that was replaced, the App can’t do it and support never answers). They simply don’t have enough staff.

I genuinely hope they sort this out because their approach does feel like what’s required for the future of hybrid energy systems.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Do not use it!!!

*2026-08-15, version 6.27.0*

You will surely end up paying more than any fixed plan. I have 13.3kW solar panel and 48 kWh battery. I had to pay 260 last month without any special usage. Basically, you cannot use any electricity from the grid from 3:30pm to 8:30pm. Otherwise, prepare to pay more than a hundred dollars every month.

### 1/5 — Bill and customer service

*2026-08-13, version 6.27.0*

There is no customer service at all. If you have any problems with your billing, you cannot contact anyone to resolve the issue. They simply send the bill without properly checking the meter reading or the actual amount of electricity you have used. They should provide an accurate bill based on the meter reading and the number of kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed. The lack of customer service makes it very difficult to resolve any billing problems.

### 1/5 — Total scam

*2026-07-13, version 6.25.0*

Amber is scam. I have a huge solar and battery system and I switched from one of the big 4 electricity suppliers and went from having a credit every month to over $100 per month in bills.

Don’t believe the hype. Amber won’t save you money in the real world.

### 1/5 — Can’t connect

*2026-06-23, version 6.24.0*

App can not connect to my battery all day today.. loosing $$$ bad experience. Only happens with current version. fix it asap please

### 1/5 — Unreliable

*2026-06-22, version 6.24.0*

Getting very frustrated with manual control on my sigenergy battery has only worked once when I’ve tried to manually export to grid during price peak periods

### 1/5 — App constantly in error

*2026-06-20, version 6.24.0*

App works well but recently has regular connectivity issues, even though internet connection is working!! Issue has not been resolved for a long time now

### 1/5 — Poor customer service and misleading

*2026-06-04, version 6.23.0*

First misleading information , in last 6 months got more bills compared to previous retailer and couldn’t utilise my 42KW battery . on top of that , their customer service are useless , seems like bots and never helps.

### 1/5 — Not as promised

*2026-05-12, version 6.21.0*

It was feeding back to the grid when my battery was at 32% and the grid was paying $0 instead of charging my battery so I had to self manage as I fell I need to do since I joined it since February. Not worth the subscription as you need to monitor it always.

### 1/5 — Non functional no service

*2026-04-10, version 6.18.0*

App doesn’t work properly. Cant connect to internet despite everything else in system connecting and working just fine. No customer support. Says 10 days grace period but cannot opt out even after only 5 days of dysfunction. Poor at best.

### 1/5 — Stay away from this provider

*2026-03-31, version 6.18.0*

This is a dodgy company that charges you twice as much for the connection, and all those strategies that they advertised are a bunch of bu… sh….
They never replied to your calls and no communication at all with a customer
Another dodgy company pretending to help their Australian customers

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works well but app gives frequent error messages

*2026-07-21, version 6.25.0*

However error message soon disappears and I get the info needed. Wookrs well on iPad, but current price screen is a bit glitch and does not always up date and it has been giving a “refresh the app” message a lot. But over all am happy with the info

### 5/5 — Super cool

*2026-02-22, version 6.16.2*

Great to be able to control our power usage, bills, make money and also help the environment at the same time

### 5/5 — Great but missing widget

*2025-08-06, version 6.6.9*

I have been using the app for only a couple of days now and it is great. The interface is simple and easy to navigate and very user friendly. The live rates predictions and battery control features are all there. But… it would be great if they could make a homescreen widget to monitor real time data. Everything else is spot on. Well done Amber.

### 5/5 — Great app. One request

*2025-06-03, version 6.6.5*

Love this app. I’m saving over $100 per month on electricity. I particularly love selling electricity from the battery during spikes. My record so far is $40 earned in an hour. Gold.

One thing I’d like though, (please Devs!), is the ability to schedule charging for cheap periods. I’d love to be able to set the battery to charge in the wee hours on the cheap so I’m set to go again in the morning peak.

### 5/5 — Cheapest prices power for the diligent ones

*2025-05-27, version 6.6.5*

Even without a battery or solar you don't have to try very hard to save money with Amber. Just try it.

### 5/5 — Great app experience but missing widget

*2024-12-26, version 6.4.1*

Please add widget option

### 5/5 — Smart!

*2024-05-22, version 6.2.0*

Amber is getting smarter and smarter with the introduction of the new algorithms. Well done 👍

### 5/5 — Determine YOUR own power bill!

*2024-05-07, version 6.0.5*

This provider and app enable my home to function at the same bill price BEFORE the massive inflation / COVID / rate rise / cost of living challenges. I was with a mainstream provider back then and the switch to amber saw my bills drop back to a 2019 / early 2020 amount.

You might need to adapt a few things in life like not using heavy usage items for a short period at peak times which is easy, more considered and less gluttonous for a huge financial benefit.

My bills are at at 2019 figures.
My bills are half what they would be with a competitor currently.

Rate very highly.

### 5/5 — Any chance of adding a Widget or Live Activities feature? Thanks

*2023-10-14, version 5.6.4*

Great app and service.

### 5/5 — Clean User Interface.

*2023-07-21, version 5.5.3*

I initially wrote a bad review about data not being displayed for 2 weeks but now it’s working I’m just loving the user interface. It’s very easy to read and understand, I can see my daily usage and solar by half hour blocks and what I’m being charged. Also the live pricing helps me to adjust my usage habits.
