I lost £900 of my deposit on a house that was not even safe to live in. The property had no locks, no proper facilities, and was in terrible condition. When I reported these issues, Amber offered no real support or accountability. Instead, they allowed the landlord to keep my deposit despite the property being unfit for basic living. This feels like exploitation of students and tenants who trust their platform. Amber markets itself as a reliable housing solution, but my experience shows otherwise. If you value your money and your safety, I strongly advise avoiding Amber Accommodation at all costs. ### 1/5 — Not helpful at all *2025-08-27* Every question and issue I needed help with was just pretended to be acknowledged then ignored. They only acted like they were gonna help so I could rate the interaction positive as apparently ‘that will motivate them to be better’. They then proceeded to act like they weren’t gonna help even thought the chat literally saves and even if it didn’t I have screenshots. Their website also allows custom mobile in dates which some of the actual accommodations don’t allow so it was a whole mess. After paying a holding fee for accommodation near City of Glasgow College, I was devastated to discover that my room had been given to someone else, without any notification or explanation. This complete lack of communication forced me into an urgent and stressful search for affordable housing just weeks before term began. Despite initial promises from customer service that they would assist me in finding suitable alternative accommodation, I was ultimately ignored and left without any support. They stopped responding altogether, effectively ghosting me during a critical time when I needed help the most. Although the refund process was eventually initiated, the delays and uncertainty have caused immense anxiety and put my education at risk. Amber Student’s handling of this situation was unprofessional and deeply disappointing. Their failure to uphold basic standards of communication and customer care makes them unreliable, especially for students who depend on secure housing. Best Regards, amberstudent.com ### 1/5 — Worst app and site *2025-01-20, version 3.9.1* I deposited 300£ for the accommodation through this app, and when I reached on my accommodation they told me that they didn’t receive any amount form the amber’s, and I again have to pay the deposit. When I complained to amber about this. They didn’t help me out in this and also the costumer executive ignores my messages. ### 1/5 — Functional but They are scammers *2024-12-12* They claim on the website the $300 fee you pay to book is fully refundable no matter what then when you try to cancel your application they present the $300 as a “fee” you have to pay for your cancellation. Even though they initially claimed even if you cancel your booking you’d get your money back. they also have a way of dragging out your request to cancel the booking so that it passes the required time you have to actually be refunded. After finding a room we place a deposit that on app said it was to hold room. It holds a booking agent for you. Talk to the booking agent and was told all rooms in that apartment sold out, then agent tried to upsell us to other rooms. Some of these ” rooms” are basically bookshelves screwed together to create a wall with an accordion door. These types of room do not follow fire code and are considered illegal here. Then we get told by an agent in a different country that this is how it is done in Canada and then proceeds to ask if we have ever been. Born and raised in Canada and have spent time in city that we were looking for housing in.
