### 2/5 — Needs so much work

*2024-01-05*

Such a high level publication with such a weak application. So much potential. Why can’t it just be better?

### 2/5 — Buggy app.

*2023-07-11*

Constant issues logging in and restoring purchases. Having to download PDFs from website instead.

### 1/5 — Great content...now fix the app

*2021-05-14*

It’s a shame. Content is great but this app is close to unusable. Constantly crashes.

### 3/5 — It is hard read on iphone.

*2021-04-16*

When you zoom in text, letters become bad quality. You can not copy text. And zoomed text bad navigate with one finger touch. Not quickly move. Tap - try move - not moving. Again repeat... again... and magic, moving!

### 1/5 — Log in fail on mobile

*2021-01-15, version 26178702*

I’ve had this app a long time. It has worked in the past but now fails to login to my account. Web login works fine. iPhone 7

### 1/5 — Bordering on theft!!

*2021-01-12, version 26178702*

Doesn’t open when copies of magazine I’m subscribed to. Terrible UX. Bordering on theft as I’m paying for something I’m unable to use/access! And hasn’t been improved for years!!

### 1/5 — Can’t Log In

*2020-10-21, version 26178702*

I’ve just paid for a full digital subscription to the magazine and it does not recognize my login info that works on the website. Awful experience.

### 1/5 — The worst app in the history of apps.

*2020-09-23, version 26178702*

Very glitchy. Cannot log in on several attempts.
The magazines that I had subscribed to are locked.

### 1/5 — Where are my magazines?

*2019-04-16, version 25912242*

Been an avid digital reader since 2013. Now all my subscriptions have disappeared pre 2015. Please sort this out . Get the Cinefex app developers on board. Or crowd fund like they did! But sort the app out. Its disappointing.

### 1/5 — Content is always great,but...

*2018-11-02*

This app is awful. It’s clunky, slow and thus difficult to navigate, and crashes almost every time I try to open an issue. It’s not optimized for ios12 and wasn’t updated for iPhone X screens. My subscription has to be restored every time I open the app. I haven’t gotten much use of my subscription because this app is so difficult to use . I will not be renewing if this app isn’t updated soon.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2018-10-26, version 2.3.2.1231*

Won’t open on phone or iPad. I paid for digital subscription- not cool, guys. Please fix this.

### 1/5 — Can’t read 2018

*2018-01-22*

I can’t read 2018 ... my subscription is steel operational tough...

### 1/5 — Ugh

*2017-05-24*

Great mag. Horrible app.

### 3/5 — Great Publication....bad App

*2017-05-03*

Love this publication but the App crashes after 30sec of viewing. Also the photography in the articles is low rez...Not good for a publication about cinematography. Update for IPad Pro???

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing，unusable app.

*2017-04-25*

The idea to make an app is nice but can you just fix it to make the app stable to read?

### 1/5 — I want to know my password.

*2017-01-01*

I don't remember my password
I don't know how to do.
If you know the method that I want
Please let me know

### 2/5 — App is buggy, slow, and frequently crashes

*2016-05-23, version 2.3.2.1060*

App is buggy, slow, and frequently crashes. Needs an overhaul.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — American Cinematographer magazine

*2024-09-27, version 4.12.8*

A most dreadful app, I wish I hadn’t bothered with it, having so much trouble with it, and had purchased many back issues, which cannot be accessed,
I’ve deleted & reinstalled it many times, trying to access my issues from the 1960’s 70’s, just not showing up,
Who ever is behind this, doesn’t seem to care,
Going to cancel my subscription, just had enough,

### 1/5 — Login stinks

*2024-04-07*

This is the worst app. I can’t login and no one responds to my messages.
Don’t waste your money or time.

### 1/5 — Can’t log in

*2023-12-10*

I subscribed via Apple. Asks me to log in to see it. Says I have to be a digital subscriber. Enter my login info, doesn’t recognize it. Go to the site, change my password, log in, subscribe there (which is twice as much, and now I’ve paid twice). Log in with new password and can see the mag on the site. Come back to this app, it doesnt recognize my login.

so…whats up? is it the same info as i use in the site? theres no explanation anywhere or a way to retrieve your password or help or anything.

guess i'll be using the site and will have paid $30 for what originally was supposed to be $10.

### 1/5 — Unusable app

*2023-12-01*

Can’t log in, can’t read the content.

### 1/5 — How many years before they finally fix this piece of crap?

*2023-01-12, version 26178702*

ASC should consider the damage this piece of coding garbage is doing to their brand. I’ve tried to tell the editorial office that more than once I’ve nearly given up my annual subscription due to how awful the overall experience, largely though not entirely, as a result of this app. I muddle through using the website instead but it was a trial even to figure that out. How many changes in Editor in Chief since this started and yet still nothing has changed? Pathetic.

### 1/5 — Can’t logging in

*2022-10-12*

Problems for logging in all the time. It barely works. Indicates wrong password or username. Even when there is nothing wrong with my infos. I spend more time dealing with it than reading the issues.

### 1/5 — Essential reading, unusable app

*2022-09-26*

I’ve been reading this magazine for two decades and the original excitement of digital copies for my iPad has never really panned out. THE issue is the log in process. Image quality is good, load speed is good, download is simple...when and if I can access it. It’s been patchy at best. It periodically logs me out and then I can’t get back in. I’ve tried resetting my password multiple times to no effect. I can log in on the site so I know my info is good, it just isn’t recognized by the app. So I’m just downloading the pdf version from the site now and checking back every now and then hoping for an app update.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2022-07-12*

I’ve tried for months to try to log in to the app and it never lets me. I’ve even contacted support about it with zero luck. I can only see the publications through the browser. Completely pointless app and it makes me want to cancel my subscription.

### 1/5 — Can’t login

*2021-12-22*

I can’t login to read past issues, even if I have subscription(past issues included). App simply doesn’t let me login, writing that login and password are incorrect

### 1/5 — Lost purchases

*2021-07-30, version 26178702*

As mentioned by a number of reviews, I spent a fortune on back issues and now can’t access them! Feels very frustrating. Any advice??

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Subscription issues

*2019-11-05*

Hey I’m unable to subscribe to ASC mag. I’ve tried opening a mag and once I reach my preview limit I click subscribe, but nothing seems to happen. Any other methods I could use ?

### 5/5 — Easy to navigate, quick to load- Nice app

*2018-07-24*

I was able to easily navigate the app, and quickly load the mag I wanted to read. I like the download option for offline reading.

### 5/5 — Love app

*2018-06-13*

Loaded smoothly and clear images and content.

### 5/5 — VASTLY IMPROVED

*2015-07-22*

Or I'm assuming it is. Because as a subscriber to Cinematographer, I can now download my digital editions in a snap, at no extra charge, and read them on my iPad, instead of off the screen of my MacBook. I don't seem to be experiencing any of the problems of the people who reviewed the earlier release, before the update. The images look crisp, the text is easy to read and the interface is about an 8 out of 10. So I'm loving it.

### 5/5 — 很专业

*2015-05-21*

非常喜欢！

### 5/5 — Please improve

*2012-08-16, version 1.0.24.9487*

If you're not going to spend any time designing a proper magazine for the iPad, at least scan the pages of your publication in high res. if you zoom even slightly on the ipad3 the image becomes pixelated. Seriously why is a high res scan so hard??? And you can't buy single issues?????? Why?
I live this magazine and have subscribed in print before, but this app is really bad, it should be a discounted version of the newsstand issue.

### 5/5 — Essential

*2012-06-12, version 1.0.22.9125*

I've read AC magazine for many years. I'm now starting to make my living as a DoP in the UK. I still learn a ton from each new issue. It's great to peak over the shoulder of the big names and see them work.

I'd recommend this to experienced Cinematographers and students alike.

### 4/5 — Great Magazine... But app...

*2013-07-29*

Magazine content and layout are great! But app have some glitches. Read button doesn't show on offline mode, on downloaded issues. I would love if I could read it while I'm commuting whit not Internet connection on my iPad!

### 4/5 — Good but can be great

*2012-06-17*

The magazine content wise is great for anyone who is interested in shooting and directing films. However I think they cold make the experience great if they add retina display support, a way to bookmark the pages and have a few links to video in every issue. This could be interviews or short examples of the scenes that the cinematographer talks about.

### 4/5 — Excited for this, but...

*2012-06-14*

I've been waiting for this magazine to show up for ipad. I read it faster than usual, however... Even non-retina displays have really pixilated fonts.
