### 2/5 — Was awesome before the update

*2026-03-03, version 2.1.6*

It was awesome before the update. Was able to look in your surrounding area to see what rivers were running/active it was easy to see because it would just show Green if it was running or red if it was too low. Now, not so much. They are all the same color.

### 3/5 — Nothing else quite matches it

*2026-01-03, version 2.1.6*

And it’s buggy AF, doesn’t work w/ password manager, logs out weekly for no reason, and other nuisances.

### 2/5 — Hard to use

*2025-11-20, version 2.1.5*

Seriously this app is so unnecessary hard to use compared to the original. Keeping the gauges from the river description is a terrible idea.

### 2/5 — Am I doing something wrong

*2025-06-29, version 2.0.1*

Why can you not save your favorites anymore. Also, not be able to zoom in on the graphs. I miss this and setting up alerts for the rivers that are running.

### 2/5 — Confusing

*2025-06-20, version 2.0.1*

Maybe it’s just me but the new way that the app is set up is very confusing. I can’t find half of the options that the old set up had and it is very frustrating.

### 4/5 — Missing the option to favorite a river(s)

*2025-06-17, version 2.0.1*

…Otherwise great!

### 1/5 — Not what it was

*2025-06-14, version 2.0.1*

I loved this app so much I would donate every year. Now, you can’t sign in on the app, non of your saved runs can be accessed. The descriptions have all changed and on some runs the big rapids are not called out. There are a lot of holes. Why is the app so different than your website? What happened? Ahhhhhhh

### 1/5 — Old system

*2025-06-13, version 2.0.1*

Please revert back to the old system. Thanks

### 2/5 — Bring back favorites

*2025-06-13, version 2.0.1*

New update is missing favorites/bookmarked section of rivers. Takes too long to search through the rivers in your state. I used to use this app frequently but won’t use it again until the favorites feature is brought back.

### 1/5 — Bookmark Option???

*2025-06-08, version 2.0.1*

Seems pretty basic

### 1/5 — Horrible update

*2025-06-08, version 2.0.1*

Where did the quick view river levels go w/colors? Where did the map gauges w/colors indicating levels go?

This app is very inconvenient now. Used to be awesome.

### 1/5 — Missing some useful features

*2025-06-06, version 2.0.1*

No more saving gauges to favorites for easy navigation. Map is cool but annoying to have to pick through every time

### 3/5 — New update

*2025-06-05, version 2.0.1*

American Whitewater has been an incredible resource for my boating! I love checking the levels before heading out on a run or planning a trip with the app. Unfortunately with the new update you can no longer “favorite” a section of the river. This is a minor inconvenience but I do hope the app brings this feature back as it is really useful for quickly checking the stats of nearby rivers!

### 1/5 — Not what it used to be!

*2025-06-05, version 2.0.1*

Hey guys! It’s really difficult to read through the river list and look at stream flows. It was set up as a list before with an ability to make a favorites list. Now we have to click on each river individually and it doesn’t give a flow. Bring the old way back please!! Thanks!!

### 3/5 — Bring back favorites!

*2025-06-03, version 2.0.1*

Love the redesign of the app, but developers should bring back the “favorite sections” tab to earn 5 stars. Too much scrolling and not enough quick reference in the new version!

### 3/5 — What happened to favorites?

*2025-06-02, version 2.0.1*

The new update looks great, but without the ability to save your favorites, I’m not gonna use it.

### 1/5 — Bad update

*2025-06-01, version 2.0.1*

Bring back the ability to create a favorite’s list.

### 1/5 — Can’t get out of their own way

*2025-05-31, version 2.0.1*

Every time this app does an update it gets a little bit worse.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Give us the old app back

*2026-03-28, version 2.2.0*

Almost a year later I still hate the new update. Why haven’t you reverted back. Look at your terrible reviews and listen.

### 1/5 — worst update ever

*2026-03-08, version 2.1.6*

i don’t know why they would ever take away half the features can’t ever find what’s running

### 1/5 — Barely functional

*2025-10-14, version 2.1.2*

This last update has made this app nearly unusable. Can no longer filter by flows, difficulty, or distance. Browse by state gives you a list of rivers that is only sometimes listed alphabetically with, again, no ability to filter. I also lost all my favorites when this version updated. Oh, and the button to leave a review doesn’t work. Major downgrade from previous versions. Thankfully the website is still very useful.

### 1/5 — Redesign not useful

*2025-10-11, version 2.1.2*

Used to be a useful app where you could filter by rivers that are actually running. Now it takes forever to figure out what rivers are running. Why would they do this.

### 1/5 — Disappointing App Update

*2025-07-14, version 2.0.1*

I really don’t like the changes recently made to the app. I can no longer quickly check what my favorite or saved rivers are running.

### 1/5 — Very bad Update

*2025-07-13, version 2.0.1*

This app used to be cool, then they updated and removed the favorites tab. There is no reason to use the app over a web search now. SAD.

### 1/5 — Unfortunate update

*2025-07-11, version 2.0.1*

The new design of this app is considerably worse than the previous one. Mainly not being able to filter rivers by class of difficulty. Which was particularly helpful when traveling outside of my home area trying to find new runs.
I used to use this app regularly (every time I went boating) now I don’t use it at all and I don’t suggest it to other boaters. I’m very disappointed

### 1/5 — Old Version is Better

*2025-07-02, version 2.0.1*

They recently updated this app which made it not usable. They got rid of the colors on the map to easily be able to see what is running. They also got rid of the favorites list for rivers to see a list of gages that you choose instead of having to search for each one. I went from using this app a few times a week to never opening it and using google.

### 1/5 — Keeps getting worse

*2025-06-27, version 2.0.1*

I’ve had the app for years. Originally it was not bad and not far from the layout of the website. The updates have been horrible. The most recent one is a joke. Rapids are missing and the layout is not smooth. Honestly couldn’t find one benefit. I’m considering deleting it after 10+ years.

### 1/5 — Virtually worthless

*2025-06-25, version 2.0.1*

Would give it zero or negative stars if I could! Deleted an app with far more functionality to give us this awkward cumbersome replacement. Shameful.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love the iterative approach and responsiveness to paddler feedback!

*2025-08-05, version 2.0.4*

Lots of apps have a roadmap and you get what you get without many options for input - I love that AW is iterating the app based on member feedback! Such an improvement. Thanks to the volunteers that make this happen!

### 5/5 — Great app, has a lot of room for improvement

*2025-08-02, version 2.0.3*

This app has a variety of different rivers to explore as well as relatively recent and updated information on the difficulty of whitewater as well as any potential hazards. As this app continues to be updated by its users, I expect the app to get additional rivers added to it, including more of the smaller rivers and creeks that aren’t run as often. I love how the rivers are color coded by difficulty, and the river gauges are always accurate. So far I give 5 stars!

### 5/5 — Major Update!!!

*2025-05-20, version 2.0.1*

Been using the app for years, but I used to have to jump between the AW app, the USGS river levels app, dreamflows, and whatever online beta I could find. The old AW app was clunky and frustrating (especially when toggling gauge timeframes), but the new update is fantastic and the gauges seem to toggle and update reliably. Love the new format where I can display all the runs on the map at once, but I can’t seem to figure out how to filter runs like on the old version. Hopefully that gets worked out soon, but still, what an improvement.

### 5/5 — Great Update!

*2025-05-17, version 2.0.1*

Levels are accurate.

### 5/5 — New update is hot!!!

*2025-05-17, version 2.0.1*

All it needs now is a favorites menu and it’s golden

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-01-05, version 1.4.2*

For river runners

### 5/5 — Wonderful Organization and app

*2023-12-18, version 1.4.2*

Amazing nonprofit organization and awesome app! Support AW!

### 5/5 — I CAN SEE BEYOND THE HORIZON

*2022-03-16, version 1.4.0*

it is a wonderment of modern man

### 5/5 — Needed info at my fingertips

*2021-06-13, version 1.3.8*

Easy to zone in on rivers that are running. I used it every day on my TN trip in May

### 5/5 — Thank you!

*2020-06-21*

ThNk you for taking the time to make this app!
