## What is Amigo?

Amigo brings the classic Commodore Amiga to your iPhone and iPad. It is a native port of WinUAE, the most accurate Amiga emulator, running the complete range of classic machines from a stock A500 to a 68060 workstation with RTG graphics and networking.

FEATURES

• Emulates 68000–68060 CPUs, OCS/ECS/AGA chipsets, FPU and MMU
• RTG graphics card (Picasso96-compatible) for high-resolution Workbench desktops
• Fast interpreter core: a 68060 benchmarks faster than desktop-class emulators without JIT
• 1:1 touch pointer — the Amiga mouse follows your finger — or classic trackpad-style relative mode, with two-finger scrolling in both
• Apple Pencil support: tap and double-tap on Pencil 2 and Pro; hover pointer and squeeze-to-click with Apple Pencil Pro (hover needs an M2 or newer iPad)
• TV output via USB-C or AirPlay — fullscreen Amiga on the big screen
• Save states with automatic saving
• Bluetooth game controllers — plug and play, with CD32 pad mode, port routing and autofire
• Hardware keyboards, mice and trackpads supported
• Virtual Amiga keyboard, numpad, function keys and joystick overlays
• Floppy images (ADF/ADZ/DMS) and hard drive images (HDF, RDB and plain), added via the Files app
• Internet access for Amiga software through the bsdsocket library
• Save and switch between named machine configurations
• Starts right away with the bundled open-source AROS Kickstart replacement — ideal for Workbench and AmigaOS software; most original floppy games want a real Kickstart ROM

BRING YOUR OWN SYSTEM

Amigo includes no Amiga operating system, games or copyrighted ROMs. If you own Kickstart ROMs and AmigaOS (for example from a licensed distribution), copy them into the Amigo folder in the Files app for the authentic experience. The bundled AROS ROM lets you start with no Amiga files at all and runs a good deal of Workbench software, but it is a replacement rather than a copy: most original floppy games drive the hardware through the real Kickstart and will not boot on it. If you are here for games, add a Kickstart ROM.

FREE SOFTWARE

Amigo is free, with no ads, purchases or accounts. It is licensed under the GNU GPL v2; the complete source code for every released build is available at github.com/thomas-luebker/Amigo.

Based on WinUAE by Toni Wilen; original UAE by Bernd Schmidt. Amiga is a trademark of Amiga Corporation. This app is not affiliated with or endorsed by the trademark holder.

### 2/5 — Almost works

*2026-09-03*

This sits at the insert disk screen, I insert a bootable ADF in df0 , and it considers the disk for a moment, then reverts back to the insert disk animation. Doesn’t matter which bootable ADF it’s the same. It did import and recognize my 3.1 kick Rom from Amiga2000 though, so that’s a plus

**Developer response:** Sorry about that — a disk that is read and then handed back is almost always one of two things, and both take two taps.

First: importing the ROM does not select it. Open the gear menu › Kickstart ROM… and tap your 3.1 ROM; the filled check mark shows what is active. Until then Amigo is still booting its built-in AROS ROM, which most floppy games refuse.

Second: the default machine is an A1200 with a 68020 and fast RAM, and games from the A500/A2000 era often reject that. Tap gear › Machine… › the A500 preset, then insert the ADF again.

Version 0.7.7, in review now, adds "Why won't it boot?" under Controls & Help. It reads your ROM, machine and disk and names the mismatch. There is also a Quick Start at github.com/thomas-luebker/Amigo.

If neither helps, please open an issue there with the game name and I will look — your ROM recognised and imported is the hard part done.

### 4/5 — So close!

*2026-08-24*

Finally easy full desktop Amiga emulation! But apple pencil support very inconsistent. Selecting items / folders not working properly. Drags things unwantedly as if clicking them.. no pressure in tvpaint or dpaint - in TVPaint with apple pencil cursor is always left clicked - cannot lift to make another stroke ..always one constant line no matter what I do.

**Developer response:** Thank you — and you were right on every point. Version 0.7.6, live since 27 August, fixes all of it.

The stuck left-click and the unwanted drags had one cause: the Pencil's own tip could be mistaken for a resting palm and ignored, so a stroke's end was lost and the button stayed down. That is gone.

Pressure now reaches the Amiga two ways, both under Input & Overlays: "Pencil Pressure" for programs that read the system tablet, such as Deluxe Paint, and "Serial Tablet" for TVPaint, which drives a Wacom itself. In TVPaint set the tablet Type to "Wacom A4+ Pressure" — other sizes leave the pointer stuck at the edge. Both take effect after restarting the Amiga. How much a stroke widens with pressure depends on the brush and profile you pick inside TVPaint.

For selecting and dragging in Workbench with the Pencil: touch is the left button, double-tap is right-click, and hover moves the pointer without clicking on an M2 or newer iPad.

If anything still misbehaves, please tell me at github.com/thomas-luebker/Amigo/issues — pressure painting on the Amiga is exactly what this should be good at.

### 4/5 — HDDs

*2026-08-20*

Still missing multi-hdd support, to mount several HDF images as diff volumes.

**Developer response:** Update: this shipped in 0.7.5, live since 25 August. You can now mount several HDF images at once and they appear as separate volumes — DH0, DH1 and so on, each on its own drive — and ejecting one leaves the others running.

Thanks for asking for it; your review is what put it on the list. If it doesn't behave the way you expected, tell me at github.com/thomas-luebker/Amigo/issues and I'll take a look.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.7.7 — 2026-09-09

• "Why won't it boot?" — a new setup check in Controls & Help and in the disk panel. It reads your Kickstart, machine and disk and names the mismatch: AROS still selected, a ROM that is not a Kickstart, an Amiga Forever ROM without its key, a fast A1200 given an A500-era game, a data disk that cannot boot. It changes nothing; Copy puts the report on the clipboard
• The help panel now opens with Getting Started: import a ROM, select it, pick the machine preset, insert the disk
• The Kickstart list says when a ROM is imported but the built-in AROS ROM is still active, and which machine preset suits games
• Importing a ROM now reminds you to select it
• Amiga Forever's rom.key can be imported from inside the app
• New Quick Start guide: github.com/thomas-luebker/Amigo › docs › QUICKSTART.md

### 0.7.6 — 2026-08-27

• AHI sound works again — the emulated sound card was never actually placed on the Amiga's expansion bus, so drivers found nothing to open. Existing setups repair themselves on the next launch
• Apple Pencil pressure reaches the Amiga. Turn on Pencil Pressure in Input & Overlays for programs that read tablet pressure through the system, such as Deluxe Paint
• Serial Tablet, in the same menu, puts a Wacom graphics tablet on the Amiga's serial port for programs that drive one themselves. In TVPaint set the tablet type to "Wacom A4+ Pressure"
• Fixed: the Apple Pencil's own tip could be mistaken for a resting palm and ignored, so taps and strokes went missing or seemed to stick
• Fixed: the emulated serial port never told the Amiga a byte had been sent, so any program writing to it waited forever. Terminal and comms software could not work at all
• Fixed: every byte the Amiga sent out of the serial port was doubled

### 0.7.5 — 2026-08-25

• Quick controls, bottom-left — one tap shows the Amiga keyboard; hold it for the numpad, function keys and virtual joystick. That used to take three taps through the menu
• New disk button, bottom-right — swap floppies, hard disks and CDs without opening the menu, and eject and swap now work properly from the disk panel
• Copy and paste between iOS and the Amiga — text both ways, and pictures from the Amiga to iOS
• Multiple hard disks at last — mount several HDF images side by side and each appears as its own volume. Eject one and the rest keep running
• CDs now work beyond the CD32 — mount a CD image on an A1200 or A4000 and the machine actually sees it
• A floppy speed setting for faster ADF loading, now in the disk panel
• Sharper drive LEDs — the status bar is no longer blurred when scaled up
• Fixed a crash when opening some LHA archives as a floppy — the way most WHDLoad titles ship. If Amigo quit on you inserting a .lha, that is this
• Fixed a start-up hang where the emulator could spin instead of booting
• Fixed: choosing 32 MB of RTG graphics memory silently disabled the graphics card. The option is gone, and a machine already stuck on it repairs itself on next launch
• Fixed: the same hard disk image could be mounted twice

### 0.7.2 — 2026-08-19

• iCloud sync — your saved setups and save states now follow you to every device. Stop on the iPad, pick up where you left off on the Mac. Disk images can be included too (off by default)
• Drag & drop — drop an ADF, HDF, ROM or CD image straight onto the Amiga screen from Files, and a dropped floppy goes into DF0 right away. There is a new Import Files… menu entry too
• CRT scanlines — three strengths, for the look of the monitor you remember
• Four floppy drives — DF2 and DF3 for multi-disk games, switched on in the Machine panel with no restart
• Floppy haptics on iPhone — feel the drive step while a disk loads
• Fixed: both Shift keys now work independently. Left and right Shift reach the Amiga as separate keys, so games that use them as separate controls — pinball flippers — play properly again
• A tidier menu — display and input settings have moved into their own sections instead of one very long list
• A tidier virtual keyboard — every row lines up flush now
• Longer battery life — idle-power fixes in the emulation core
• CD32 console! One tap in the new CD-ROM menu turns Amigo into a CD32 — supply the CD32 Kickstart ROM and your CD images (CUE/BIN, CCD, MDS, NRG, ISO and space-saving CHD)
• Drag with touch: tap-then-drag, or hold until the button engages — move icons, select, draw in Deluxe Paint. Works on Kickstart 1.3 too
• Cursor keys now type as cursor keys — the emulated joystick only claims them while the Virtual Joystick overlay is shown
• New Controls & Help screen in the gear menu — every gesture explained
• New Keyboard Style option: keep the classic see-through overlay, or put the screen above the keyboard (great in portrait) — plus a Picture Fit/Stretch setting
• Floppy and Kickstart pickers now open LHA, LZX and 7z archives
• Fixed: a paired game controller stopped responding after changing the machine or Kickstart

### 0.7.1 — 2026-08-17

• Amigo now runs on iPhone! Landscape and portrait, with an
  iPhone-sized virtual keyboard
• Bluetooth game controllers now work — pair one and play. New
Controller menu with CD32 pad mode, port routing and autofire
• New CPU Speed setting: "Original" paces like real hardware and
dramatically reduces battery drain — now the default for classic
machines. "Maximum" remains for power setups
• Disk images and Kickstart ROMs are found in subfolders — organize
your Files › Amigo library however you like
• Fixed a rare crash when leaving the app
• If the emulator can't start after a machine change, it now undoes
that change automatically instead of refusing to launch
