### 5/5 — Great to be able to track different items

*2026-10-08*

The new features are great and a helpful addition to my inventory tracking tools

### 5/5 — It is very simple to use, and the import export features are very nice to have

*2026-09-03*

It works well for logging and the reference is extensive

### 5/5 — Works great with new calculators

*2026-05-09*

Happy with the new features

### 2/5 — Used to love this app; until I got a new phone

*2020-09-14*

I entered in all of my ammo data in this app when I had an iPhone 6S, which I guess backed up to a computer instead of iCloud. Once all the data was in, I threw away all my receipts for ammo purchases over the last 20 years or so since I figured everything was backed up. The sad reality is that it was not. Once I got a new iPhone XR, when I went to restore everything, sadly, none of my data came back. Ugh! Now I have no data on what my cost per round is, and I need to dig into my ammo cans to recount rounds. Big bummer!

### 4/5 — I like it but....

*2020-06-27*

It would be even more useful if You could record say G1/G7 BCs, muzzle velocity from barrel lengths, etc. and could say create an inventory of firearms and then for each type of ammo I have record things like muzzle speed and group size and other comments for how each round worked in each gun. Also add functionality for batches of handloads with details in the load and how they shot in each gun.

### 1/5 — where did it go?

*2019-07-08*

opened the app a couple of weeks ago to find all my data gone. what the deal? lost my taste for this app real quick.

### 1/5 — Doubt that I will be able to use this App.

*2017-12-16*

I am looking for an simple app to manage my ammo supply. This one looks like it should work, but after downloading it and trying to set it up, it does do at all what I need.

The first and my glaring thing missing is caliper. No place to input it, thus no why to sort by it.
I wanted a location box to search by, this has one but does no seem to work.

I say this is not one for me.

### 1/5 — Unable to enter info

*2017-12-15*

Downloaded and tried to enter caliber for starters. Keyboard would not activate. Help!!!

### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for

*2017-10-28*

It tracks just as I needed. Ammo types, storage locations, quantity, and ammo used.
Only thing I would hope for is a way to reimport data via an exported CSV file in case I have to delete the app and bring the data back in.

### 4/5 — Pleasant Suprise

*2017-03-05*

I opened the app today and found it was updated with new features, icons and new look. Still have to see how well it runs but I'm excited they are doing updates.

I've used this so far to help me organize, but got behind on entering usage and purchases which you have to for it to be accurate and up to date.

So, new features make me want to get back to updating my inventory. I'll report on this new version as I use the new features.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 8.7 — 2026-10-08

Your care with records deserves tools that make the job easier. Thank you for using AmmoDB and for taking the time to keep your ammunition, firearms, and range notes organized. This update gives you more starting points and better ways to find the model you need.

A much larger firearm starter library:

- Choose from 169 starter entries covering 61 named firearm models and 67 caliber and gauge groups.
- Find at least three model choices for each of the 20 calibers in the bundled Ammunition Reference.
- Browse models for popular calibers, with choices from multiple manufacturers.
- Explore handgun, rifle, and shotgun entries alongside additional modern calibers and gauges.
- See the caliber in the name of chambering-specific entries, so similar model names are easier to tell apart.
- Open the manufacturer source link to review the information behind a starter entry.

Search and narrow the list:

- Use the search field at the top of the starter chooser as soon as you open Add Firearm.
- Search by model, manufacturer, firearm type, or caliber without scrolling through the library.
- Find linked cartridge names and common aliases, including searches such as .45 ACP and 300 BLK.
- Filter by firearm type when you want to browse handguns, rifles, or shotguns.
- Choose a caliber filter to see the starter entries for that cartridge or gauge.
- Combine search with the type and caliber filters to narrow your choices further.
- Check the result count as you browse, then reset the filters when you want to see the wider list again.

Sort the way you think:

- Sort starter models by name for an alphabetical view.
- Sort by firearm type to bring similar entries together.
- Sort by caliber when chambering is your starting point.
- Use name, type, and caliber sorting for your saved firearm records too.
- Search your saved collection to find the firearm you need.

Make each record your own:

- Start with a model from Add Firearm, or open the same searchable chooser from Use Starter Model in the new firearm form.
- Choose Enter My Own Details whenever you prefer to create a custom record.
- Use a starter to fill identification fields, then review and edit them before saving.
- Enter the measurements and ownership details for your actual firearm, including barrel length, twist rate, weight, capacity, acquisition date, and purchase price.
- Add your own serial number, storage location, notes, and photo. Starter models do not supply personal ownership details.
- Keep unknown measurements blank until you have information you trust.

Bring your firearm records into your regular routine:

- Link a saved firearm to selected ammunition records and open those records from its detail page.
- Select a saved firearm for a range session or ladder test instead of typing the same label each time.
- Open linked sessions and tests from the firearm record when you want to review your notes and measurements.
- Use a manual label when you do not need a saved firearm record for that session or test.
- Keep round usage in your ammunition log, chronograph readings with your session, and component activity in Handloader / Reloader.

The expanded library helps with identification and recordkeeping. Versions, chamberings, dimensions, and capacities can differ. Check the markings on your own firearm and current manufacturer information before saving its details. Reference links and inventory links organize your records; they do not confirm ammunition compatibility.

The firearm records and photos stay in local app storage. Inventory CSV and JSON exports cover ammunition and usage, so they should not be treated as a backup of firearm photos, range sessions, or reloading records.

### 8.3 — 2026-05-09

This release brings the new calculators workflow front and center and tightens the app around the way people actually move through ammo records. AmmoDB now feels less like separate screens stitched together and more like a single app with a clear job: keep inventory organized, make quick checks easy, and give you fast reference tools when you need them.

New in this release:
- Added a dedicated Calculators tab as the first tab in the app.
- Moved Ammo to the second tab so the main navigation starts with tools.
- Added a simple smiley face icon for the Calculators tab so it matches the rest of the app.
- Added a ballistic calculator for trajectory, drop, wind drift, velocity, and energy estimates.
- Added a bullet BC database for quick G1 and G7 reference values.
- Added a twist rate calculator for gyroscopic stability and barrel twist planning.
- Added a recoil calculator for free recoil energy, recoil velocity, and impulse.
- Added an MOA and mil converter for scope adjustments, inches, centimeters, and clicks.
- Added a clear calculator hub so each tool opens from one place.
- Added an OK keyboard button for the calculator screens and other text entry views.
- Kept tap-to-dismiss keyboard behavior working across the app.
- Refined the ballistic calculator layout so it reads better on smaller iPhone screens.
- Reworked the result cards so they stack cleanly on compact widths.
- Made the trajectory table scroll horizontally instead of clipping when the screen is narrow.
- Kept the table aligned and readable on larger screens as well.
- Improved the calculator headers so they give the user a quick sense of what each tool does.
- Updated help text to mention the calculator features and their intended use.

Putting the calculators first matters because that is where a lot of quick checks happen now. If you are at the bench, on the range, or just comparing a load from a note, the app gets you to the reference tool without digging through the rest of the tabs.

The ballistic calculator got the most attention because it is the one people are most likely to use on a phone in the field. The layout now gives the inputs room to breathe, keeps the results readable, and avoids the cramped look that can happen when a dense calculator is pushed into a narrow device. The range table now scrolls instead of fighting the screen, which makes it much easier to review values at a glance.

The calculators are meant to feel useful, not overcomplicated. They are there for the quick checks people actually make:
- How much drop should I expect at distance?
- What is the BC value I should start with?
- Is this bullet stable in my twist rate?
- What kind of recoil am I signing up for?
- How many MOA or mils is that adjustment?
- What does the load look like in a simple trajectory table?
- Which bullet entry should I start with before checking the maker's data?

AmmoDB now gives those answers in the same app where the inventory lives, which keeps the workflow simple. You can track the ammo, check the load, and move on without bouncing between different tools.

The rest of the app continues to behave the way people expect:
- Ammo records stay local on device.
- Search, sort, duplicate, share, and export still work.
- Allowance totals still help you keep an eye on your max.
- Spreadsheet browsing still makes large inventories easier to scan.
- iPhone and iPad support remains part of the core workflow.
- The app still feels like an ammo inventory tracker first.
- The new tools sit alongside the records instead of replacing them.
- The basic record workflow stays fast for day-to-day use.

This update is about making AmmoDB a more complete app for your daily usage.
