### 2/5 — Last update 3y ago

*2026-05-31, version 1.1.7*

Speed test doesn't work (test servers cannot be reached error). I don't see my local network printer, even after allowing the LAN access for remote devices. Last update was release 3y ago which sound pretty outdated from security perspective. Establishing the vpn connection takes 15sec, which is quite a lot. I like to idea and app gui, but we need huge improvements in functionalities and more updated app. It would be nice to see the total amount of data for trx/rx between router at home and iphone.

### 2/5 — Random disconnects

*2023-05-02, version 1.1.7*

App has a lot of potential. Please fix the issues with the random disconnects. I don’t mind the random disconnects, if the vpn would automatically reconnect within a reasonable period of time.

### 3/5 — Wi-Fi+LTE

*2022-01-22, version 1.1.5*

Won’t connect if both Wi-Fi & LTE are enabled. Have to completely disable one or the other before it will successfully connect. That’s a pretty annoying bug. Hope they fix it soon. 3 stars for now, five stars when they fix it.

### 3/5 — Shortcuts support?

*2021-12-20, version 1.1.5*

The app and tech work fine. I’d really like iOS shortcuts support so I can activate and deactivate on public or specific networks. Then I’d give 5stars

### 3/5 — Vpn

*2021-12-15, version 1.1.5*

Great feature that could use tweaking.

It seems to disconnect from the vpn when switching from Wi-Fi to and from cellular and does not auto reconnect.

### 4/5 — Works well, needs Face ID

*2021-06-25, version 1.1.3*

This is a good facility and it works well, regardless of internet connection and location.
However, it needs Face ID, so it can be locked securely and prevent unauthorised access.

### 3/5 — Slow and unstable

*2021-06-06, version 1.1.3*

I love this feature of my Amplifi HD router. However, it’s a slow tunnel and has a tendency to drop without warning, leaving you vulnerable. This app would be much better if it connected faster, STAYED CONNECTED (even when the phone is powered off), and updated a lot more frequently than it currently is. Even give us an option to permanently add this VPN to our phones, instead of introducing an additional step to activate it each time we need it.

### 3/5 — Need a Desktop / MacOS app

*2020-09-18, version 1.1.3*

This VPN services works, but there really should be a VPN application for MacOS. I love my router, but this is a pretty standard feature that I wish Amplifi supported.

Love the teleport application and idea, but it definitely needs to work on MacOS as well.

### 4/5 — Great when it works

*2020-08-30, version 1.1.3*

When functioning properly it’s great, but unfortunately the frequency in which the connection drops can be frustrating. This is definitely intended for use with a stable WiFi connection away from home, as on 4G it will frequently disable itself and lose connection. Unfortunately there is no way to auto connect back to my home network without manually going back into the app and tapping the switch again.

### 2/5 — Bring back the hardware!

*2020-06-25, version 1.1.1*

Please bring back the hardware, it was the perfect solution to my camper setup

### 2/5 — Limited to one router

*2020-06-07, version 1.1.1*

The app only allows a VPN connection for one specified router. So if you have multiple routers, you will need to delete and reinstall the app every time you want to connect to a different router.

There should be a pick menu for multiple router scenarios.

### 5/5 — Amazing !

*2020-04-27, version 1.1.1*

I don’t have anything bad to say about the app at all. Everything works like a charm however I do have one request though:

Please make this app for MacOS...

Now that would be a killer!

Good work guys, really. _/\_

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Convenient but frustrating

*2025-09-07, version 1.1.7*

While, it is convenient that the system comes with the ubiquity router, and allows me to access my home system. it is also very disappointing.
The app is not very user-friendly and technical support is available only by email and is very slow to respond.
This makes resolving any issues. Very frustrating.

### 1/5 — Create an AmpliFi Teleport for Apple TV

*2024-04-15, version 1.1.7*

Is that too much to ask? I think you should listen to your clients.

### 1/5 — Been broken for months

*2023-09-19, version 1.1.7*

Used to work flawlessly. Recent update to 4.0.3 broke Teleport, and the most recent update (4.0.4) made no difference.

App also is completely useless at providing possible troubleshooting for diagnostics.

### 1/5 — No MacOS Support

*2023-01-26, version 1.1.7*

Halfbaked. No MacOS support...

I guess they just assume thay no one will ever need to VPN from a laptop...

### 1/5 — Doesn’t seem to work

*2022-09-16, version 1.1.6*

Says I’m connected to my alien router but unable to access my server like I can from my phone on wifi.

### 1/5 — Stopped working on cellular

*2022-06-09, version 1.1.6*

Very disappointed as it doesn’t work when on cellular service, only when on Wi-Fi.

### 1/5 — Pretty app

*2022-05-26, version 1.1.6*

Unfortunately VPN disconnects after about 10 minutes of use. Really great experience, but too inconsistent for regular usage. Happy to export anything needed by the dev team to fix.

Update Dec 2020. Still disconnects after a few minutes. Too bad. Apparently this product will never work.

Update May 2022. Still disconnects after barely a minute. App clearly abandoned. Using on latest hardware on Alien.

### 1/5 — cannot connect

*2021-06-12, version 1.1.3*

cannot comnect

### 1/5 — Does not work with T-Mobile

*2020-04-26, version 1.1.1*

The many other reviews stating not working with cell are correct. Have not tried WiFi but it is 100% useless on T-Mobile and apparently for other users also with other operators. That greatly reduces usefulness. Until fixed this is a 1 star app for me.

### 1/5 — test

*2020-04-19, version 1.1.1*

test

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best router and vpn i have ever gotten

*2026-07-16, version 1.1.7*

Everything just works. I have a very consistent and fast network at my home with the routers, including in my back yard and around my whole property. In addition, the Teleport service is a lifesaver when traveling. Highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Great app for personal VPN

*2025-05-25, version 1.1.7*

Works great when traveling. Wish the app was available for Apple TV as well.

### 5/5 — The best in the world

The best router in the world, without any compliments, by buying this router, your needs will be met in the present and future.

### 5/5 — A Lifesaver!!

*2024-03-29, version 1.1.7*

This app works great on iPhone, iPad, and the newer Apple Silicon Macs. Unfortunately, it doesn't run on the older Intel Macs. Nonetheless, it has been a lifesaver for me as I have been traveling in Europe for the last 2 months. This not only makes it easier to watch movies and TV shows from my streaming services, but also allows me to have access to web sites in the USA (most importantly, my health insurance website!) that block access from Europe, which is amazingly stupid. The AmpliFI router has been great, but I didn't expect to benefit so much from this app. Thank you!!

### 5/5 — TV version

*2023-09-30, version 1.1.7*

TV version

### 5/5 — Terrific!

*2022-07-10, version 1.1.6*

Prior to purchasing an AmpliFi Alien Roger, I’d always paid for VPNs. First, for security. Second, because I travel to places that block some internet sites. Third, I like to access my home cable subscription when I’m traveling. This app allows me to do that for … nothing! Better yet, I’m doing so through my home network. I’ve found the connection to be quick enough and stable to stream sports events while I’m overseas. Highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Good

*2021-10-22, version 1.1.5*

Good

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2021-06-01, version 1.1.3*

Love it! I haven’t tried this yet abroad but I do trust Ubiquiti and I believe it will perform great! I am traveling soon and I will update this post!

### 5/5 — Ridiculously Good

*2021-03-22, version 1.1.3*

The fact is, this app is absolutely fantastic. When I am away from home and need to access any resource on my Network, I can do so without resorting to finicky methods (Ex: Using a PI).

(For the people who cant access local resources with this feature, they need to ENABLE local recourse access lol)

It connects 100% of the time and is very reliable. Its basically cheating.
This features alone make the Amplifi Lineup have a superiority over anything else out there in terms of consumer options.

For Example: I am at work, My kids are at home, and forgot to unblock their devices or I need to check the network Status/ Configuration because they say something isn’t working, etc. This Allows me to do so in a very easy, and timely manner. It is something I never knew I needed.

This is also a Fantastic feature and whether you are 10 min away from home or a few states or even a country away, you have access to your local network. Which means all your streaming including Netflix, Hulu, etc are tricked into thinking you are still at home. This also allows it to Bypass Geo Restrictions for traveling!

If I am at a StarBucks or a Hotel (or anywhere with sketchy free WiFi for that matter). I am able to use Teleport to keep my information and device safe without paying for a Reliable VPN Service that I wouldn’t use for *most* of the time anyway. Saving me time and money.

Now for the 1 “missing” feature.
There is not an option or way for the device to connect on its own if it detects you’re not on your Home WiFi Network/ List of WiFi connections. I say WiFi because on cellular it would honestly be obsolete in most cases to teleport, you could manually Teleport if needed on cellular. But say I connect to a WiFi connection, the icing on the top would be for you to have the option to automatically Teleport when its not on your home WiFi Connection or a list of WiFi Connections in a BlackList. This would be an insane feature to add and would definitely not go unnoticed for anyone who uses Teleport.

All and all, I was really debating whether to go all out on a UniFi Setup, or an all out Amplifi setup. So far (minus the general missing software configuration options as a whole that Amplifi provides you). I can say with confidence that the Amplifi Alien Lineup really is the way to go for HOME networking. The WiFi 6, the crazy hardware specs, the reliability, the ridiculous quality. everything is top notch.

Ive had my Amplifi Alien Tri-Mesh Setup for 8 months now (and I still have to look at them every time I pass them haha). And only 1 time did I resort to a restart (I believe I was DDoS’d to be fair to Ubiquity, they cant control that).

My iPhone 12 Pro gets 820mb/s download on a 1GB/s Coax connection. (Because I needed that that for the 30+ devices we always have connected)

(If you run a business out of your home or something that has a TON of devices or needs the configuration and security setup, then UniFi may be your best option. They now have WiFi 6 just like the Amplifi Alien... although it took them an extra year to do so)
