App does work for starting and stopping charging but not good for info about charging sessions. ### 2/5 — Store staff don’t scan app code *2026-03-30, version 5.1.1* The QR code in the app says scan in store when you go into the store they say they cannot scan it and it can only be used in the app so any of the discounts don’t occur. Unreliable app, will go back to going in store to pay. ### 3/5 — App is okay could be improved by showing the price of fuel *2025-12-30, version 5.1.0* Would like to see the price of fuel to find the cheapest fuel on the way home or going out ### 2/5 — Doesn't work when "Precise Location" is disabled *2025-12-22* My first attempt to charge using the Ampol app was a fiasco, and to jump to the end of the story the problem is that this app doesn't work unless you have "Precise Location" enabled in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Ampol. I stood around a carpark this morning looking like a creep, unable to work out how to start charging our car, and hassling passers-by for help. We compared what they see in the Ampol app to what I see, and they had a different UI with options to charge the car... whereas I did not. Their phones showed a detailed list of charging points and a button to start charging, whereas my phone showed just basic information and no button to start charging. They were as confused as I was and then made excuses to get away from me. Eventually I realised that the Ampol app doesn't work when "Precise Location" is disabled in the iPhone settings. It seems that you have to be pretty close to the charger for it to show you options to charge there, and the app reckoned that I wasn't close enough (I was of course standing right next to the charger). What's worse is that it wasn't apparent this was a problem. There was, for example, nothing saying "move closer to charge" or a button to start charging that is disabled until I get closer; instead there was just no indication on how to start charging, and no information their quite extensive in-app help about how to start charging, or that you need to be physically close to the charger to start, or that "Precise Location" needs to be enabled in iPhone settings. Anyway I worked it out eventually. Then a few minutes later when I checked my phone I accentally tapped 'Stop' on the Ampol app when trying to switch apps and that cancelled my charging session. I couldn't restart it so I had to go back to the car, unplug the charger, plug it back in, then start again. At least the car got charged properly; other than that just about everything else went wrong. ### 1/5 — Confusing app *2025-12-20, version 5.1.0* Really hard to work out how to get any of these discounts. A unique method seems to be used and not explained vary well. Linked everyday rewards and was shown but also not claimable ### 1/5 — Useless *2025-10-27, version 5.0.1* Impossible to actually find service stations. The staff could clearly see my rewards but the barcode said there wasn’t any. Don’t bother……. ### 3/5 — Need Dark version icon!!! *2025-06-17, version 4.7.3* It’s been a year, still no dark icon ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Paid in app, reported to police as a drive off *2026-06-01* App payment initially timed out, so I clicked it again and made sure it went through before I drove off. App shows payment at 9:33 I have received a text message from the police saying I have been reported for not paying and that I drove off at 9:29. I really like this app because it makes it easy to refuel without having to get my toddler out of the car. But after this experience I will be looking at other providers. I now have to drive to Ampol and my local police station to get this resolved. ### 1/5 — No value *2026-05-26, version 5.2.1* Unlike other seevice stations apps, theAmpol app doesn’t provide any benefits, or discounts, therefore it’s better to use the competitors for better value ### 1/5 — App issues *2026-05-12, version 5.2.0* This app was working fine, made it easy to fill up and drive away without standing in the queue to pay. Seriously Ampol could consider adding more locations around the state. The payment failed due to insufficient funds and the app instructed me to go to the cashier to complete the payment. However, when I paid at the counter, the discount could not be applied. I even asked if the transaction could be returned to the app so I could change the payment method, but the staff said it was not possible. In the end I had to pay the full price and lost the discount, even though I followed the instructions given by the app. The process is confusing and the app should clearly warn users that the discount will not apply if payment is completed at the register. ### 1/5 — Too many updates *2026-03-03, version 5.1.1* If you make me download an update every time i fill up my car ill stop using this app ### 1/5 — Terrible *2026-02-19, version 5.1.1* By far the worst app for EV charging. Really simple to use, and allows for easy changing of payment options. But the latest version I find hard to follow, the text is too small and blue text colour hard to read. I just filled up and thought I had paid after struggling to find the page where you insert the pump number, started to drive off and had another look while waiting for traffic and found I had not paid.
