If you’re trying to compare travel options, too often you must restart, as if you’d never searched anything. ### 3/5 — Not the easiest to navigate *2026-08-24, version 6.1.6* The first screen that comes up to book allows you to enter the dates and cities you want to go to, however it would be nice if the days the train was in that station would pop up instead of me having to pick an arbitrary date. I cannot figure out how to book multiple-leg trips. The app should also show alternative routes. For example, typing in HUD<—>BOS, it only offers heading back down to NYP and then to Boston, when a cheaper and more direct route going north to ALB from HUD, and then to BOS. A system map on the app would also be helpful when planning more complicated trips. ### 1/5 — Cheaper to Fly *2026-08-15, version 6.1.6* It’s cheaper (and more elegant) to fly last minute and takes much less time. I’m not sure what’s going on with Amtrak these days, but consumers are shifting away from Amtrak due to the prices. ### 2/5 — Could be so much better *2026-08-14, version 6.1.6* The app, just like the website is so difficult to navigate. A simple trip can take twenty or thirty minutes to book and finding information is very difficult. For instance the discounts pages on both have a tab for discounts but tapping learn more just doesn’t work. Adding a trip to the frequent travel program seems impossible. Not good at all. I expect more. ### 1/5 — Dreadful Customer Service *2026-08-14, version 6.1.6* The website is terrible for so many reasons that I often find it impossible completely a reservation. One particularly aggravating thing is that I have traveled with my spouse for 50 years, yet if I try a different search I need to renter all of her data over and over again. The people at Amtrak are your greatest asset yet you are firing your 800usarail agents. It can take 90 minutes of wait time, which is unacceptable. Also there is no direct way to access Customer Relations to file a complaint; instead we wait for a ticket agent 90 minutes only to be put in another queue for customer service, which is often unavailable. Amtrak management, you are ruining my travel experience. I would rather take Peter Pan than have to wait 90 minutes for a live agent. Amtrak is now cratering out its customer relations. ### 1/5 — Outlandishly Bad *2026-08-14, version 6.1.6* App times out, doesn’t save your bookings, gets all the way to the stage of payment and suddenly drops and you have to begin again. This happened to me around five times before finally allowing me to book. Go to TRIP TOOLS and upgrade and it demands a coupon. Go to MODIFY and all you can change is the travel dates. I wanted to upgrade my daughter from unreserved coach to Business class on the app and you can’t. Typical government agency. Now I’ve just gotta purchase online from my browser not logged in for anything to work! Make sure you take screenshots of your tickets!! ### 1/5 — Bad customer service *2026-08-21, version 6.1.6* I rode Amtrak from NY to Orlando and back..I am still on the train..first the Floridian 40was 2hours 10minutes late…However,Amtrak needs to be overhauled and cleaned up..the bathrooms are disgusting..and there is no one to clean them and there should be because of you go from one end of the country to the other and can’t use the bathroom without feeling like you will leave with any kind of airborne disease or virus by even touching the faucet to wash your hands..the food prices onboard are absolutely ridiculous,MnMs cost more than coffee !!! The last thing I will say is turn down that air conditioning system..freezing temperatures make people uncomfortable and it’s bad enough that it’s not anyway to recline unless you’re in a sleeper..the coach seats do push back but it’s at the risk of disturbing your neighbor behind you when and if you decide that a mid recline is actually comfortable which it’s not..Amtrak needs a complete overhaul and you need to invest more into customer satisfaction rather than anything else because we all pay the salaries ### 1/5 — Can’t be used to buy tickets, view tickets, or see rewards *2026-08-20, version 6.1.6* 100% of the time you try to use this app to purchase train tickets, an error message pops up saying “Let’s Try Again.” Furthermore, if you log into the desktop website on another device and actually purchase a ticket and then later log into this app, the app has no record of your upcoming trip. AND, if you have rewards from being a member, you have to leave to view them. This a train app that cannot help you board a train in any way. It was finished, but I had to change method of payment. Upon returning to the booking page, with only one button to push for completion of the transaction, the page immediately changed my total cost upward. No matter my efforts, the site held fast to the increase - then gave a message “not available.” I cannot clear the itinerary, to start over.
