I decided to download it and did like it. But I cannot purchase the pro version. On my iPad and my iPhone choosing Go Pro crashes right to the Home Screen. As this is the way developers would get money I can but assume that if they won’t fix that bug then the app is truly abandoned. ### 3/5 — Please update *2022-12-18, version 3.4.3* I can’t purchase the pro version, due to it crashing ### 4/5 — Great but… *2022-06-30, version 3.4.3* I love the way it is integrated with Follow Chess, but I have two issues: 1. The variations that are given are often very short or abbreviated so much as to be useless for understanding how the given line will proceed. 2. Some of the bug are when you save a game if you’re doing multiple games and you go back to the game it has not been saved properly. It tends be an older version of the game you saved and updated. Tried seeing how to contact the developer but was unable to find a link to contact them to submit this issue and see if they could fix it. ### 3/5 — Split screen experience needs to be improved. *2020-11-02, version 3.3.1* When used in split screen mode on iPad, the position setup UI is bugged. Also it would be very convenient if there is a one-click shortcut from the analyze tab to the position setup tab. ### 3/5 — Split view not quite working *2019-03-15, version 3.0* I really like that this app, like so few others, supports split screen multitasking, but it doesn’t quite work. When you enter split screen multitasking, the screen is not re-rendered for the new screen size, so it’s not usable. But if I rotate device and rotate back, it is properly re-rendering during orientation changes. But I feel silly rotating my device back and forth just to get it to recognize the new split view screen size. ### 4/5 — Great app, could have small improvements *2019-02-27, version 2.9.1* Very powerful, great integration with iChess puzzles. Improvements needed: doesn’t remember settings for chessboard color! Would be nice to not show arrow for the side you are playing. So I with hold one star. I select share to copy to clipboard from chess.com but analyze this said invalid PGN. The same worked for other apps. Anyone can give a hint ? Thanks ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Junk *2022-11-19, version 3.4.3* I am a titled chess player. This app should get flushed into a black hole it is: 1. Impossible to upgrade to the “Pro” version on iPadOS 16+. 2. The supplied engine is Stockfish 11. Really? We’re already using Stockfish 15, this is incredibly bad for an app that wants money from you. 3. It’s impossible to accomplish anything on the free version because ADS continually intrude. If it were possible to give negative stars, this app would get 5. Spare yourself the aggravation and forgo this junk. ### 1/5 — Confusing and pro version does not work *2022-01-03, version 3.4.3* Difficult to use. Had to play around with all of the buttons and still couldn’t figure out how to analyze past 1 move. Bought the pro version and it would not work. So the premium version being cheap I went to rebuy it, only all my attempts just lead back to my Home Screen every attempt I make to rebuy it. This is very frustrating, in that I do not have access to the premium version for whatever app error is occurring. ### 1/5 — No updates in 8 months?? *2021-08-04, version 3.4.3* No updates in eight months and the developer will not respond to questions. Still using stockfish 11 whereas the SmallFish app is currently using stockfish 14, does everything this app does and more, and it is free!!! Don’t waste your money here. ### 1/5 — Engine crashes all the time on ios 9.3.5 *2019-12-28, version 3.0.14* It used to be great, now it's become totally unusable on ios 9.3.5 due to the analysis engine crashing all the time. Most of the time you can't even make 2 moves in a row without the engine crashing. Once the engine crashes, the only way to start it again is to close and restart the app. The developers claimed some crashing issue was fixed on a recent update, but it did absolutely nothing to solve this. Simply downgrading to the last usable version would fix this, but of course apple know better and won't allow us to downgrade. I'd give this 0 stars if it let me. ### 1/5 — Terrible game *2019-12-21, version 3.0.14* As a chess progrem it doesn’t resemble to anything else. Arrow are pointing from empty squares or in the wrong direction. I just tried to import a PGN and the instructions contradicted itself. Eventually I found a “paste“ button and when I tried to use it, the app just crashed. It separates itself from others in its unique ability to view up to TEN lines of the game. It would be the best if it was the latest version of stockfish and I’m begging the developers to make this happen. I usually use Fritz but I don’t like using Windows on the PC and there are no similar tools for OS X. This app really pushes your iPhone CPU and you get the most value out of your expensive device! But one thing missing is the ability to adjust the threshold of centipawns to trigger a variant recommendation. It is perfect for managing and analyzing and maintaining my notes on my ICCF games, and I highly recommend it. My one small complaint, and hoped for improvement, is that you allow me to shut off the engine in Settings. I do not use an engine for analysis, and it is troublesome that is flashes up every time I use the app. Of course, I can turn it off at that point, and set the lowest possible settings, but it is distracting and one cannot unsee something.
