Gives me a lot of peace of mind! ### 5/5 — A big contribution to a good nights sleep *2026-08-10, version 2.0.3* I find this to be an impressive anchor alarm both standalone and particularly when working alongside the excellent Predict Wind Datahub. It has a simple and intuitive graphical interface based on a satellite view of your location. There are two modes - Simple and Datahub. In “Datahub” mode, you start the anchor watch when your boat is pointing at the deployed anchor. The app then uses your depth, wind data, rode and the (pre-set) position of your GPS antenna deployed to calculate where your anchor is placed. From then on it monitors your position and generates a loud alarm if the boat moves outside the safe zone. You can enter any parameters not known to your Datahub and can enter everything if you don’t have one. If the hub has an internet connection, you can also monitor it from anywhere in the world – including the local taverna! Accuracy is improved by presetting boat parameters such as bow height, draft and GPS distance from the bow and offset to port or starboard. In “Simple” mode, a single click sets the anchor 30m in front of your phone. If you “Set Anchor Position” from the bow when you drop the anchor and before pulling back, you can instantly drag the anchor symbol to the current boat position. Otherwise you can wait till the boat has settled then estimate the position from the rode deployed, depth and distance of phone from the bow and then drag the anchor symbol accordingly. Once the anchor position is set, you set up the safe zone. A simple drag sets up the safe circle. A loud alarm will sound if the boat goes beyond this. If an obstacle is within this circle, you can exclude it by setting up a safe angle. If your boat moves outside the safe zone a loud alarm will be sounded on your phone. In case you are concerned that a wind or current shift will take you into range of an obstacle, you can easily set an angular exclusion zone. The app even works out if the anchor scope is safe for the weather conditions. I thoroughly recommend this as a significant contribution to boat safety and to a good nights sleep. ### 5/5 — Not a Drag *2026-08-08, version 2.0.3* Great App! Best one I’ve seen! No longer is it a constant worry when the boat is out of sight. I did end up disabling the critical alerts for the app in iOS so I could silence the alerts with the volume button. I've tried using this app multiple times over the past year, and each time it's been extremely buggy. If there's one app I have zero tolerance for failure, it's my anchor app. There's too much at stake if it fails. There are many rock-solid anchor apps to choose from. Yes the hub knows it’s on a Starlink connection. The app does all the smart stuff but it’s unreliable, which can be more dangerous than not having it. I don’t get alerted if it loses hub connection. I moved 20nm and reset the alarm. Not only did it set it for my old location it didn’t send an alert. I login to the datahub, it knows where I am. My iPhone knows where I am but not the app! I kill and reset the app and suddenly I moved. Just can’t trust that behaviour. It needs a supervisory set of checks before it’s safe to use. Also - the app only offers you a review if you say you feel safe. Even with the PredictWind hub, it doesn't function right. ### 1/5 — Frustrating!!! *2025-11-07, version 1.9.8* It worked when I first used it. Many updates later, seems to get worse all the time. I’m a pro user and this is beyond frustrating. Customer service also not good. Just some AI that keeps giving me the same info like updating to the latest version of the datahub software or deleting app and reinstalling… which I’ve done numerous times and app still doesn’t work! They get all the data they want, and nothing in return. Not happy. ### 1/5 — Disappointed *2025-09-24, version 1.9.7* I love PW and as a premium subscriber I was ecstatic to have an app that can link to my Datahub and I can leave the boat with my Phone to monitor. Set my anchor last night, activated and went to dinner. When I tried to check the app nothing was there and it was showing my boat ashore in my position - not sure what happened. When I got back to the boat I restarted it and wt my alarm. Through the night I checked and all good. Then this am as we were getting ready to raise anchor it was gone again and asked me to start my anchor all over again. I closed the app and started raising my anchor. Then the alarms started going off - but the app showed nothing anchored. Only way to stop it was to delete the app. Here’s hoping they get the bugs out. ### 1/5 — Scary and untrustworthy *2025-05-02, version 1.5* Let me start by saying I generally love predictwind and the datahub and the other subscription services. But this anchor app is so bugger it is untrustworthy and downright dangerous. The app will often hang after some period of time and become non responsive. Other times I've tried to task switch back to the app only to find it's "off" and not monitoring anything like the app is just starting up. I was so hoping I could use this to monitor any anchor drag and swing so that we could then feel good about going ashore and be able to keep an eye on our anchor situation. But sadly I have zero faith in this app to run for any period of time. Seems so not predictwind quality. ### 1/5 — Does not work *2024-12-04, version 1.5* Won’t work with Datahub, still a beta product. I paid 2 months before I found out it’s a developer issue. No refund available from Apple. This product has been “we will fix it soon” for almost a year.
